"byggeklodsen 20% off" or something, a Danish store, is extremely fast and has good prices and low cost shipping. Shopped there >15 times over the last 6 months. Also: They have never written the price on the outside either, which is nice for us living outside the EU..:-) although they currently don't have any Technic sets in stock, they have a lot of parts, all new, and mostly from sets from the last couple of years

Agreed with lost_in_noise, 8420 is by far the best looking, and it manages that without using a single sticker!;-) -
Need help to evaluate MOC instructions

Need help to evaluate MOC instructions
D3K replied to D3K's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thank you very much for the feedback! Regarding bricks per step, I think more bricks (within reason) makes for a better building experience. Also more bricks/step = less steps = smaller size PDF. The only place I feel it got a bit messy and chaotic is step 27, like you mentioned Carsten, but that had to be done that way, as I discovered a small flaw during my trial build... I totally agree this (and a lot of other steps - like attaching the third and fourth motor) would be a lot easier to read by using sub-assemblies/-steps, but I didn't discover how to do that before the very last step! The entire chaos of step 27 could be avoided altogether Bushes (and half bushes): I used the colour that looked best externally. Internally, I used grey as they are the most widely available. I have absolutely no idea how to "Lsynth" the tracks, but I suppose it means to fit them properly over the wheels? Also, I haven't figured out ho to keep stuff like arrows and smaller axle assemblies and pins outside the main model in single steps, to better indicate where things should go If it sound like I am defending myself, that is not the case! I asked for feedback, and will take most things in to account when making the second draft of the instructions! Totally agree! Needing three or more booklets, where an entire page can be dedicated to the placement of a single pin, is just stupid. It's LEGO, not rocket surgery () Just to be perfectly clear; by surgery, I mean science, but whoever can guess where that quote is from, get's a free set of instructions!- 22 replies

unoffical Body building challenge
D3K replied to efferman's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I was actually planning to make a new MOC, and you just saved me a whole lot of work! I was planning to make this car in the scale of your chassis, but thought it would be difficult to make it so small and remotely controlled. But this is perfect!! Anyway, here is a picture of the work in progress.. going in to a building hiatus now (girl coming home), so the e might be some time till I get to finish it... As you can (maybe) see, this is also a Mercedes Benz Geländewagen. More specifically an MB290 "Multi Light" as used by the Norwegian Army -

I already made a topic about this some time ago http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=74325&hl= , maybe they should be merged? I really like the shock absorber idea though -
Need help to evaluate MOC instructions
D3K replied to D3K's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The instructions (1st draft at least) are done. The Zip file is just over 18 MB, and contains two PDFs, where one is just some info, and the other is the instructions. I think they turned out quite allright, for being a first at least. It is by no means as complex as the instructions of Nath Kuipers and the like. In particular I couldn't figure out the proper way to do sub-assemblies.. So it's built entirely from the ground up and left to right. But I built it yesterday, following the instructions, and did OK.. Anyway; anyone interested, send me a PM and I will send you the link to download them! Making the model is not that difficult, only extremely time consuming. And you have to think about the instructions every step of the way, to make sure this part will be placeable after I put in that part, and so on. When I did my trial build yesterday, I realised I had to move some of the later building steps back more than 50 steps, for it to be physically possible to place the parts without dismantling parts of the model. For example the lights should definately go in before I added the IR receivers and batterybox, closing and sealing everything up!- 22 replies

Need help to evaluate MOC instructions
D3K replied to D3K's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I was thinking - if they are understandable - to upload the model to rebrickable and eventually to NYchase's MOCplans site, with a "pay what you like, if you want to pay" option.. So yeah, in essence they will be free! I'm rebuilding the model step by step from the instructions right now, and if it works, I will make it available for download. The idea of this "evaluation" I'm seeking, is to not post something that's no good- 22 replies

TECHNICOPEDIA 1996!
D3K replied to nychase's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Good one! I had to check, of course! -
Hi! During the easter, I have been trying to get into MLcad and Ldraw, because I wanted to make some instructions for my latest MOC, the small tracked loader I showed off last week. Anyways, seeing as this is my first, I would ask the helping hand of a couple of you more experienced builders out there, to download the instructions, build the model, and then give me some feedback as to what could have been done differently/better. I will probably finish the instructions later today, or early tomorrow. If this sounds like something you might be interested in, please contact me via PM, and I will send you a link to download the instructions from my dropbox once they are done. These are of course copyrighted, and should not be distributed freely amongst others. In the meantime, I have compiled a parts list from the LDD model that you can download here , but there are two or three minor differences from that list and the model in the actual instructions. and here is a small sample of the instructions: Thank you in advance!

MOC Tracked Loader
D3K replied to D3K's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Did some modifications this evening.. It hit me that when the digger stays level like it does from top to bottom, a forklift mod would be perfect! So, I made a QD universal mounting solution to be able to change between different equipment! This is what it looks like: Very simple, but works like a charm! Forklift mode: For those with an eye for detail; yes, there is a small hook and a winch on the front of the loader now: When the digger or forklift are used, it stays nicely right there! But then, of course it has a use as well! All the stuff : Although the different equipment uses somewhat different solutions to attach, the QD interface works with all of them LDD file will be updated with this new design. -
MOC Tracked Loader
D3K replied to D3K's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thank you! I would have made it a bit more rounded, but my supply of studded bricks is limited to the most basic of shapes and colours Thank you very much! I will celebrate later this week (by celebrate I mean go snowboarding and drink alcohol). I too am an atheist The black bucket seen in most recent sets (eg 8455 and 8043) is quite a lot bigger than the yellow one, yes, The black one is 10 x 18 studs, whereas the yellow one is 8 x 14. There is also a smaller black one at 8 x 10 studs. -
I got some rubber tracks from BrickLink here the other day, and to my pleasant surprise they fitted nicely over the Wheel 30.4mm D. x 20mm ! As I am waiting for the last parts for my Container Stacker MOC, I thought I'd make something else in the meantime, and decided to try to make something like a smaller edition of the 8043 B-model tracked loader, using these new rubber tracks. Although it is somewhat similar to the aforementioned 8043 B-model, it is built from the bottom up using just my imagination, in the course of a couple of days. (My girlfriend is celebrating easter abroad with her family, so I have plenty of time to be creative ) This is the first time I've used studded construction in a MOC since I came out of my dark ages (Albeit just in the lower chassis), and a lot of memories came back to me from doing that! Anyway; this is the result: The yellow bucket is from my old 8862 Backhoe from way back in the day. Both the driving and the other functions are quite quick, and a lot of fun to play with. It uses PF-M motors for all four functions, and PF LED lights for playing at night when the power is out, The construction is very sturdy, if you for instance push down on the bucket, the mini LA wil start to slip before the rest will start to wobble or bend noticably. The back end comes off easily, and hides a lot of the wiring. The battery box can be removed after pulling out two Axle 4 with stop from below. I "cheated" a little with the digger apparatus, by making the entire arm a sort of four bar linkage (or whatever it's called), so the geometry (and thereby the bucket) stays the same for the entire travel of the LAs. This is probably not very true to real life, but it is a lot easier to create. When I made my Swingloader, I think 50 % of the time I used building that thing, was figuring out a good linkage for the tipping function. As you can see, the tipping works really well. A view from the bottom. You can see the axles for removing the battery box, as well as the gear train. Different speeds can be achieved by using different gear ratios. I spent a couple of hours yesterday to build the entire model in LDD, and it turned out 99,9% accurate, I used "illegal" building techniques on two occasions. One you can see in the above two pictures (attachment of the rear mudguards. The other is where the IR Receivers are attached (I had to use one of these in LDD, instead of one ot these , which is used in the real life model. If anyoneone wants to build this, just shoot me a PM with your e-mail, and I will send you the .lxf file. The model has just over 600 pieces. And here is a video of it in action:

It's not that I forgot, I was just surprised it would go all the way around! You never know when you're digging away, and all of a sudden you do something embarassing and just want to bury yourself underneath a heap of earth.. with this feature; THAT'S A POSSIBILITY!! Anyways, new project: Teaser of what's to come withing the next couple of hours:

Let's Roll....
D3K replied to Alasdair Ryan's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Looks quite nice, in style with the vehicle type! Aren't there any pieces to make a smoother roller on the same scale? Is it articulated in the middle? -
Very true, was done in a couple hours. And then a couple of hours to build the model, figuring things out as I went along: Dimensions and critical components are identical to the LDD. Had to do some minor tweaks to the steering motor setup, as well as the Ackerman setup and the connection to the two big LAs.. I was gonna use racks and gears for the gripper, but then saw Sariel had already done that, so I tried something else. This gives it a lot less range, but a helluva lot more power. I know containers come in different lengths, but this stacker is made only for 25 +/- 1 stud long containers Here is a cutaway of the boom, to show it's internals: When it's closed up, 1x11 beams between the top 3x11 curved panels keeps it nicely in place. The wires curl up nicely as it retracts, and are just long enough for it to extend fully (like in the picture). Other noteworthy things; -Driven by XL-motor by PF Speed Remote -Steering by one PF-M motor. -Raising boom by one XL motor -Extending boom by one PF-L motor -Gripping by one PF-M motor -Rotating the head by one micromotor -AAA battery box underneath, that can easily be pulled out

K2 Black Panther tank
D3K replied to Sariel's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Stunning! Love that you use torsion bar suspension, just as many real life armored vehicles do (although the K2 is one of those that does not ). Also; doesn't it feature an autoloader? Overall, one of the better tanks you've built in my opinion! -
Walked home from school the other day, and passed the container terminal by the railway station, and decided to try and build one of those telehandler/container stacker things they use there. Have built the boom, as well as a prototype container-gripper mechanism irl, and have been puzzling with the chassis in LDD for the last couple hours. Have finally got my hands on several micromotors (6 of them, and at a ridiculously low price compared to bricklink), so will use at least one for rotating the head of the boom. Got an idea for steering with servo motor + pf speed remote that I will try to build irl tomorrow. Anyway; here's what I made in LDD, and will try to get a vid of the boom as it is now, up tomorrow (It is roughly similar to the one modeled (at least externally), but also features extending via a PF-L motor inside the housing. The gripping will be powered by a PF-M motor housed in the rear of the extending part. The turning is done by a micromotor)
