  1. I'll echo the others - great microbuild! I'm digging those angles!
  2. Nicely done, mate, glad to see you over here! The gate and roof to the chapel are my favorite bits, along with the clever attachment of the sides of the cross, but I'm really liking the concept of going with a clergyman/chronicler for your sigfig! Looking forward to seeing where you take this!
  3. Love that roof! Definitely a great job with this, Gabe; the woodwork and irregular border are pretty sweet as well!
  4. Very clever way to tie the whole challenge together, mate! Nice work with the builds, and excellent job on the story!
  5. A bunch of nice vigs here, Narb, my favorites are probably the two from the Moss side of the family I'm really liking the shelves in Christopher's for some reason, and you've got some nice use out of those new flames and candles in a bunch of them!
  6. Nicely done, both build and storywise! That floor technique works amazingly here, and the signs and tapestries on the wall are great as well Also some pretty sweet fig combos there!
  7. Sweet! - great to see you in GoH again, mate! Excellent build and hilarious backstory, I'm definitely looking forward to what you do with it!

  9. Gorgeous vegetation, mate - lovely all around! Awesome mix of greens and some epic layering, and the river through the middle is excellent as well! Quite right!
  10. What everybody else said - excellent forced perspective, Captain! Those clouds and trees are great!
  11. Alright, great! Thanks!
  12. Does this mean that the minimum size of an entry would be 32x32, or did this just refer to builds which are using all (or almost all) the allowed stud count (meaning that you can't build an entry with a 4x1024 base)? In short, would a 20x32 or 16x24 or something of that kind be alright? Just asking for a friend, if course,
  13. Nicely done, mate - those blue windows are really intriguing! They do work pretty well in the color-scheme, though, and I'm liking the house's layout, which really gives it a quite strong minifig-illusion scale. It'd be nice if the two red roofs could intersect without so much of a gap, but that admittedly would not be easy! Great work for your first GoH build, and I hope they'll be many more to come!
  14. Yep, it was the textures I was talking about, the minifig activity is great - you'd definitely expect to find it pretty crowded at a Varlyrian dock! When trying out a bunch of new things it is pretty rare that they all work as well as you'd like, but taking the risk is certainly the way to improve. Keep it up! Sounds good! You've pretty much got it - let's just say that Varlyrian historiographers at the moment are not the most... well-informed? Even fairly recent history hasn't been written well enough to pinpoint things down to a strict timeline.
  15. Loving that overhanging wooden section with the crane, mate! Very nice job with this - as others have mentioned, the height is great (re: photography though, I do find that there's not really much of an easy way to take pics of a tall build! It always is pretty complicated), and I'm liking all the interiors you managed to fit in there too If I've got a critique, it'd be that the scene just seems a little busy to me - particularly maybe a few too many colors and textures on the building on the left? The one on the right is pretty cohesive and nice all around, but with all the action texture-wise on the left the eye is kind of confused at first glance and doesn't know where to look, if that makes sense. Before I forget, that water is great as well! Something like that. The official Varlyrian story right now is that Lord Basil was one of the Baiamonte's and that they were in cahoots with the Black Hand during his reign (possibly that of one or two of his predecessors too). Or if the timeline bothers you with that interpretation, you can take Lord Basil Baiamonte as not having been the Rego at the time (the Baiamonte's reign wasn't exactly recent enough), but simply having been a powerful second rank lord who supported the Spire. I doubt it will be all written out and set in stone by us unless we decide to do something with it in the future, so it's basically up for interpretation as to when he was around/how much of the guild was really supportive of the Black Hand at that time.
  16. Definitely a gorgeous micro-castle, HQ - loving all that dark brown! The color scheme is excellent, and all the angles in the castle walls (and with the bridge) make this very sophisticated and aesthetically pleasing I'll echo @W Navarre about that fountain!
  17. Welcome to Varlyrio, @x105Black, great to have you! And welcome to all our other new members as well! (I suppose we really are all new here, though! )
  18. Thanks guys! Thanks Kai! I'm just hoping that I have enough that somebody'll still be alive by the end of all this! Thanks mate! It's fairly simple (and I'm afraid a picture wouldn't really help ) - it's just one of these (or some other window frame) filled in with trans-clear cheese slopes (and 1x1 plates, sometimes). Most of the time the last one will hold them in quite firmly, but if not, just take one or two out and put them in at a different angle. They will not fill it up entirely - there will be gaps - but as long as you're shooting against white paper it definitely looks just fine. That would probably be an issue if you were trying to use the technique for a stained glass window, though. Thanks mate! I might actually like the first one better as well - the gold gives it a bit of color that the second was kind of lacking. Thanks! So am I! Let's just hope I get around to building them before they've all been and got themselves killed! Thanks Grover! I'm loving those new curved tiles! Thanks man! Yep, I was trying to make them clearly related while still quite different in reality, and I'm glad I've succeeded! We are the ones who make the daggers... Thanks SK! I was trying to spice up the walls a bit without getting anything too busy in there. Thanks man! So am I!
  19. Clever use of the hairs as leather-in-the-making, Narb, and the black, grey, medium flesh color combo works very well again The golden wing up top strikes me as a bit random-looking, but I like it anyhow My favorite thing's probably got to be the curved brown tiles on the door, though!
  20. Nicely done! I'm liking your Varlyrian style here, and the inclusion of interiors all the way up makes me happy as well I do agree with HQ on the photos' angle, though - as a general rule, shooting from the ground level, or possibly somewhere between there and the middle, works the best aesthetically, I find.
  21. More like a throw-forward, I'm afraid! I've still got some work to do on that storyline (but we totally will get there someday! You might even have time to build some for it by the time I get around to it! #WhatcomesofbeingintoomanyRPGs, hahaha!)
  22. We've got a Varlyrian Family Intrigue thread up now, folks - check it out! Well...
  23. Well hello there, I see that you have Well, hmhmm, welcome to the Guilds, man! Now get to work on some Varlyrian builds!
  24. De Fiori Family The grand-nephew of Dialto De Fiori, Alesio De Fiori is the current head of the family and leader of their large sword-making business - a trade of which they are the masters in Varlyrio. A deal of political experience and a mind for intrigue have help him survive and hold his family's place near the top so far. While most of the family is along the eastern coast or the one large city in the west, at least one member of the family went off to sea to try his fortunes under the black flag a few generations ago, and it is rumored that Xari Spadro, a pirate terrorizing the waters between the guild and Historica to the east, does own De Fiori as his last name... Find out all about the De Fiori family here!
  25. My entry to the Varlyrian Guild Challenge 1A and start to 1B - check out the De Fiori family in this thread! (I plan to continue editing and posting in it as I complete Challenge 1B).
