  1. I'm curious, where are you getting these prices? Are they just values to you personally? According to BL they seem much different than what you are quoting: Full armored Uruk-hai - $3.80 (x2) = $7.60 Uruk-hai with helmet only - $3.15 Uruk-hai with hair - $2.75 Eomer - $4.30 Rohan Soldier - $5.50 Brown pose able horse - $2.60 That's $25.90 for the minifigures and horse alone. I am guessing after several months the Mirkwood Elf Army value per figure will be dramatically less. I don't see Thranduil being more expensive than Eomer since he is so unique and his parts aren't that useful beyond one of him. The hooded elves and orcs without hair/ears probably won't be worth more than fully armored Uruk-hai. Looking at the current Mordor Orcs without hair/ear pieces, they are only going for around $3 and I am guessing that's what the Gundabad Orcs will go for (prolly $2.75 for totally unarmored and $3-3.50 for shoulder armored). I can't see the hooded Mirkwood Elves fetching more than $4. I am guessing the only figure that will be over $5 will probably be the elf with the hair and ears and the Warg.
  2. It looks like that print is nothing more than a decal like us consumers make, not an actual print directly on the torso. They already have the design though so who knows why they didn't use it, new prints aren't near as expensive as new molds... Those other preliminary figs look great, but unfortunately I doubt we will ever see them. It appears to be another case like the Mordor Orcs we saw on the Pirate Ship Ambush/Black Gates prelim boxes, and sadly we never got them. We just more of the same Mordor Orcs with Uruk-hai armor.
  3. The Uruk-hai with hair in the UHA set isn't technically suppose to be Lurtz. Sure he has an identicle print and hair piece to Lurtz in the Orc Forge set, but he is a different color (red instead of brown), and Lurtz never was at the Battle of Helm's Deep. As for the rest of your points, I totally agree the brown Warg owns a brown horse. Other than that though, I think the Uruk-hai Army set wins in every other way. First off it has a better minifigure selection all around. Four Uruk-hai, a Rohan Soldier and Eomer who can easily serve as a second Rohan Soldier vs two Gundabad Orcs without hair, three elves (two of which have hoods on making them indestinguishable from normal human minifigs), and Thranduil who looks way to special with his hair piece provided to serve as anything but Thranduil (unless you buy extra helms or head pieces of some sort). You basically get 5 minifigures in the MEA set vs 6 in UHA, and only one of those elves is decent really. The Mirkwood Elf polybag really diminishes the need for more hooded elves too. Another point you didnt really touch on is how UHA can be connected to Helm's Deep to make that set look more like the movie or create taller walls. what do you do with multiple MEA sets though? Great bigger circular outposts? Meh. As for the rest of your points, I think they are just a matter for preference. Some people might find the tan and brown parts more useful and others the light bley depending what they need or want to use them for. Even in your comparison though, UHA wins 4 out of the 7 categories and really I think it should be 5 out of 7. 2 Rohan Soldiers should beat 2 Gundabad Orcs, especially without ear/hair pieces and with better versions of them being available in a cheaper set (Dol Guldur Ambush).
  4. Ya it does! I was originally planning on getting 5-6, but 4 of them together looks really good so I might get the 10 or so I was originally planning on getting and making 2 outposts or making one huge one. Then I wouldn't have to bother with BL for the extra Wargs or anything, I would just have a huge surplus of neck ear Thranduils
  5. The poor radioactive ape, err... I mean Necromancer gets no love Maybe not, but in the film it's more or a spear or trident at the end with tons of spikes and such. If Lego isn't going to do that and gonna just give him a curve, they could of at least made it able to grasp things like a normal hand so it can be used in MOCs and such. It looks so close to the same shape of a normal hand, why not?
  6. I pretty much agree with Lynx's list too. Confirmation of a third LotR is what I am most looking forward to right now. A close second would probably be the brown Warg for me though. While not my ideal color (little lighter tan/brown would have been), it is still a good compromise between the LotR and Hobbit colors for Wargs. After that everything else is pretty much the same for me. If all the orcs had the hair piece, or the elves had proper armor they easily would of been near the top. I am not a huge fan of the Azog or Thranduil figures because both have flaws imo, Thranduil has the weird ear position and Azog's hook arm doesn't even grasp anything. I like Beorn and Radagast slightly better than them. I don't find any of the builds particularly interesting this wave so for me it would be: 1) Third wave LotR confirmation 2) Brown Warg 3) Orcs to army build with 4) Elves to army build with 5) Radagast 6) Beorn 7) Azog 8) Thranduil
  7. Any pictures of the real thing...?
  8. I would be totally happy with a Uruk-hai Army/Mirkwood Elf Army style set featuring Gondor Soldiers and Mordor Orcs. As long as it had at least 2 Gondor Soldiers and 3 Mordor Orcs. Of course a "real" battle pack like SW gets would be the best but ya, I don't see that happening. We have had 4 waves between the Hobbit and LotR now and the "Army" sets are the closest we have gotten to army builders. It's a bit of a shame, but better than nothing I guess.
  9. Yes, I love this model and it is a much more unique ship than the boring one we got in the Pirate Ship Ambush. And like everyone else has pretty much said, it would make a perfect ending to the LotR line whenever that time comes.
  10. I wish Lego would of done a more diverse color change if they were going to do it. I realize the Gundabad Orcs we have seen so far are orangish, but its such a minor change and it will make mixing and matching with other existing orcs/goblins look weird. If they had done the Gundabad Orcs in the same tan we could of at least mixed parts between the existing Mordor Orcs, Goblin King goblins, and Gundabad Orcs. With such little variety so far it would of been nice. All well. As for why we didnt see any dwarves this Hobbit wave, keep in mind there are only 4 (known) sets. That's only 20 minifigures total. If they had the 13 dwarves plus Bilbo and Gandalf again we would of only gotten 5 new minifigures this wave. That means Beorn, Radaghast, Thranduil, Azog, and the Necromancer. There would of been no room for any new orcs or elves. Personally I am glad we didnt get any dwarf rehashes this wave except for Thorin.
  11. Ya, I would much rather see some Gondor and Elf helmet molds over a slight variation to the Uruk-hai one.
  12. I know this thread is a bit old, but have there been any updates to this MOC? I was eagerly awaiting the finished product. We were getting updates often for awhile then... nothing. I need to see the end product!
  13. That's a good point. However, some of the new molds were just being introduced and not specific to the Uruk-hai Army set. Some like the horse were planned to be used in a lot of other Lego themes. The Uruk-hai helm, sword, and shield were also used in other sets released simultaneously such as Orc Forge and Helm's Deep. I dunno if you can really count them as being new specifically to Uruk-hai Army when they were in other sets as well? That only really leaves the Rohan Helm. For the Mirkwood Elf Army we have Thranduil's hair and the orc shoulders for brand new molds, but again the orc shoulders are being used in two other sets so they are not specific to MEA.
  14. Ended up buying 10 more Rohan Soldiers and 40 more Uruk-hai off BrickLink. I swear I am done with them now!
  15. Wow that is really cool! I love the posability ypu created while still keeping the general look and feel of the Lego minifigure. The only criticism I have is the arms look too small without the open hands you made, the thighs look a little boxy, and the neck looks too long when the mask is up. Other than that the proportions seem great!
  16. Very nice customs. I really wish Lego would paint the manes on the Wargs like you did and use a lighter tan/brown... It looks SOO much better than what we currently got!
  17. Very funny MOC! As others have said, the minifigure positioning is excellent. It really gives the feeling they are working out and training. I love the weight lifter, the Uruk-hai doing push ups, and the ones practicing against the Rohan dummy. Who knew the Uruk-hai were such organized buffs?!?
  18. Right, it does seem the number purchased really starts going downhill after 6 sets (at least for the MEA set, which I am thinking people are wanting to army build with much less than they would a better configured up set...). Why limit people though? All those people would would buy 10+ are going to be WAY less likely to with a Nazgul AND Faramir. And I seriously doubt including the Nazgul would make people any more likely to buy 6 sets if they weren't going to in the first place, I could be wrong though. I would love to see the Gondor/Mordor Orc army builder I proposed and then a separate smaller $20 set with a regular Nazgul and a Fel Beast and maybe some small build. I doubt that would ever happen though. The Osgiliath idea sounds interesting as long as it's priced right. I could see it doing fairly well at the $40 price point, but any higher and buying more than one or two seems really unlikely for most (myself included).
  19. Honestly I probably wouldn't buy that many Gondor Army sets with the way you have it set up. There are a few issues I have. First off two named characters is too many in an army builder when it only has 6 minifigures total. Faramir could maybe be used as a generic Ithilien Ranger, but the Nazgul? After you get 9 of them (or 6-7 depending if we get a Witch King set and if you already bought Attack on Weathertop), they are pretty much useless. Plus the LotR army builders are more expensive than the $12-16 SW Battle Packs so it's really important, imo, the named characters be kept to a minimum. Second you have way to few orcs. People keep saying they want to see a lot of Gondor Soldiers and fewer orcs, but we haven't actually gotten that many Mordor Orcs (7 total), and there has been no way to easily army build them as of yet. They keep coming too few and in more expensive sets. For the orcs to be so few in number when they out numbered the good guys 10 to 1 seems silly to me. I don't want to have way more Gondor Soldiers than orcs no matter how good the Gondor Soldiers may look. With the way you have the set I would have more Gondor Soldiers than mordor Orcs after buying less than five Gondor Army sets. no thanks. For me, I would rather see a Gondor Army set have 2 Gondor soldiers in armor, Faramir in ranger gear, and 3 Mordor Orcs with new prints and armor. Faramir could easily pass as a Ithilien Ranger and I would rather not see a spot wasted on them when there is nothing that unique about them. I would LOVE a Mountain Troll as the big moulded piece, but I would settle for 7 normal minifigures instead and make it have 4 Mordor Orcs. If Lego did that I would easily buy 30-40 of that set.
  20. Interesting results and comments so far. It seems a lot of people feel like me. There look to be several main reasons keeping people from buying more than one or two Mirkwood Elf Army sets. It's any combination of the following: 1) Lack of orcs (and/or ones with hair) 2) Already have the elf polybag from last year 3) Elves in the set not armored and just hooded (no ears/hair either) 4) Brick color/choice in the set It also seems people bought a LOT more Uruk-hai Army sets than they plan to buy Mirkwood Elf Army ones (at least double). Of course people may end up picking up a lot more MEA sets than they originally planned if there are good sales or they like the set more than expected when they get it in hand, but it's still interesting preliminary results. Another interesting note is several people have said they would rather get a couple Dol Gulduer Ambush sets instead of Mirkwood Elf Army ones, even though the pric per minifigure in that set ($6.66) is significantly higher than in MEA ($5 not including Warg). I hope Lego realizes all of this and lower MEA sales don't hurt the chances of getting a Gondor/Mordor Orc army builder next summer. That thing would probably sell better than the MAE and UHA sets COMBINED if Lego put some effort into it and included new molds for the Gondor helms, some armored orcs, and nice prints. I guess the lesson to be learned here is don't cut corners (no ears/hair for the elves or orcs, no new armor for elves), or offer similar polybags a year beforehand (I am guessing Lego makes significantly less off polys than they would a set like MEA).
  21. I finally caved and ended up buying 2x Tower of Orthanc during the double VIP deal from Lego S@H. I will probably end up selling the two limited edition Christmas Tree creator sets I will be getting with the orders as I have no use at all for them and it will help me recoup back some of the cost. I also bought 8x Undead Soldiers on BrickLink, and hair pieces for all my baldie Mordor Orcs! I think I am finally all caught up on everything released so far, and just in time for the next Hobbit wave!
  22. So it appears the overwhelming majority of people plan to only buy one or two Mirkwood Elf Army sets? Interesting. How does this compare to how many Uruk-hai Army sets you bought?
  23. Ya, if they were to do a Mordor Orc/Gondor Soldier army builder, I would really expect Lego to make a new print for the orcs, give at least some of them hair/ears, and give them some proper armor (not Uruk-hai rehashed crap). The Gondor Soldiers would definitely need new helm molds as well. I could live with Lego taking the Roman Soldier shield, doing it in gray and black and putting the Gondor tree print on the front.
  24. Count yourself lucky. I am regretting buying the Mirkwood elf polybag now. The new Mirkwood Elf Army set has way better prints on the bodies and the greens on the hood and torso actually match.
  25. I was going to ask this question in the LotR & The Hobbit 2013 Set Discussion Thread, but then I figured it might be better suited for it's own topic because a poll can be used here. This thread is also meant as a discussion about the pros and cons of buying each specific number of Mirkwood Elf Army sets. If mods disagree and want to merge it with the other thread then by all means. Personally I was planning on buying about 10 of the MEA sets in total. After taking a closer look though, I think 5 seems like a much more reasonable number. That way I can still get a good number of elves, orcs, and Wargs without going to crazy with the elves (or Thranduils). I will probably end up just buying another 10-20 Gundabad Orcs (with hair) on BL for hopefully under $4 a piece, 5 more elves to make it an even 20, and then buy 5 or so more of the dark brown Wargs. I am guessing the Wargs should easily be under $7 and closer to 6 since they are going to be available in such a cheap set (almost half the price of the Warg Attack set the gray Warg came in). Right now the gray Warg is barely over $8. As I already mentioned, I have no need for 30 more elves that 10 MEA sets would give me. I just got 20 of the Mirkwood Elf polybags last year so that would give me 40 green hooded elves and over 50 elves total! More importantly though, I don't want 10 Thranduils. Unlike Eomer in the Uruk-hai Army set, Thranduil's head piece makes him way to distinctive to serve as anything but Thranduil. With Eomer it was pretty easy to mix him in as a standard Rohan grunt. For this reason, and also the inclusion of so many elves, I don't see this set selling anywhere near as well as the Uruk-hai Army one did. I personally bought over 20 Uruk-hai Army sets and I know there were others who bought many more than that. People on average seemed to buy way more of that set than the 1-3 MEA they plan on buying too. So, how many Mikrwood Elf Army sets do YOU plan on buying and why?
