It's one of the strongest ways to do it at this size. I once tried it in a wheel hub design for heavy vehicles, worked pretty well. Would recommend. I wonder how the new worm gears wil be used in the future by the masterminds in here. -
First person to actually fly something wins! Oh, we already had this discussion. Nice to have this sort of thing to motivate people. Makes them try things they might not tried otherwise.

I'm not sure if you noticed but your 4-long uv-joints dont align with the turning of the wheel hubs. 3-long ones would work. I recommend grabbing a stockpile of those. Also, when building studless, it is a good idea to avoid building with the beam holes facing upwards as they don't hold well when bending. -

Mechanically Programmable Drummer

I've been experimenting with these program card type things and I've thought about using a punch card like system. Instead of holes I tried a "bumpy" plate that would be read by small fingers that then use a gearbox to run motors. The problem is getting the fingers run smoothly over the edges of the bumps though. In a drummer it would be cool if you could loop it somehow. -

And we can thank Lasse D for pushing modern model team forward. Well his models push themselves. I think some Sariels builds can be thought of as model team too, as they have mechanics but use a detailed, studded outer shell. -

The part looks modern so it is from the time that I've been following lego and I don't recognize it. I went through all the znap sets and this wheel isn't found on them. It wasn't found in Robo Riders either. I'll have to guess that it's a knock-off too. Or something so obscure that only people like Blackbird will know it. -

In a crawler it makes sense for the car to stop completely since it doesn't have brakes. Clutches that enable free rolling work best on high speed vehicles. But here is a topic on one way clutches anyway The centrufugal one is nice. -

One of the things I have the most problems when building is bracing. The bevel gears need a solid support or they will slip. In your MOC nothing is keeping the two black beams around the xl-motor from separating outwards, allowing the belvels to slip. A cross beam or a self contained support around the gears would do the trick I suppose. -
I guess perpetual motion might be possible in that sense. That is because it isn't doing any work. So it isn't useful anyways. Just a little point to your example that is kinda irrelevat, but if you observe the situation from the marble's point of view, there isn't any movement at all! Edit: If you read the wikipedia article on perpetual motion, you'll see this referred to as a perpetual motion machine of the third kind. And again at Low fricition

Nope. A gravity field has the same problems as the magnetic field discussed here. Energy has to be put into the system, for example lifting a stone increases its potential energy, but you need to use the same amount to put it up there. Perpetual motion can't be achieved in an isolated system. I'm not sure if the universe counts as an isolated system. Y'all need to realise there ain't no free lunch.

I'm not sure if you know already but the planetary assembly won't work as it is. Currently it only drives the inner teeth on a gear, a planetary reduction needs the outer ring to be stabile. Frankly, a simple portal axle would propably work better. That said, you really know how to cram a lot of gears into a small space -

I'm worried about the negative caster angle too. We'll see how it goes. Should be relatively simple to fix it by dropping the rear end a bit. -
Thanks to Jim for creating this great contest for us! I did quite well so I'm happy. Not the most original of ideas but hey, it was my first time. Good thing that the point diffrences ended up so clear so no-one feels frustrated for losing with just a couple points :P Congrats to Lipko, I saw that one coming from the WIP thread of yours.

I only got the 8070 because it was cheap (well, kinda) and I'm not going to even keep it I'm really looking forward to next year though. I think I'll pick up at least two of those snowmobiles for parts. Oh wait I guess I also bought the 8868 and 8880 this year, I think. I don't even remember. Years are too long.
