  1. Yeah, fireplaces to nowhere aren't great, but I was so charmed by the way the stairs work behind the bakery, I couldn't be bothered to worry about that much.
  2. I think the frog is just supposed to be a bit of hidden treasure. Given the space allowed, a golden frog has as much or more character than any other piece they could’ve thrown in there. The drum is there to flesh out the rest of the musical instruments. Harpsichord, lute, horn. Glad to see that the build changed your opinion on some things. I was already very happy to be getting this thing, the build process just cemented that love for me.
  3. Got mine yesterday and spent 8-9 hours straight building it. Truly an amazing set with numerous techniques and parts usages I’ve never encountered before. I’ve never built anything like it, but this is now the crown jewel of my collection, and a joy to behold.
  4. Nice detective work. The dragon shield seems to be the outlier with no recent reference from the CMF. On one hand, I want to go on a flight of fancy, imagining what could come from future exploration of updated classic themes. Reading between the lines of a couple of interviews, I wouldn’t be surprised to see an upscaled and updated 6086 Black Knights Castle. On the other hand, that plan makes too much sense, and I’m too used to being disappointed, lol. I can see them redoing all of these shields just for the design exercise, especially early on when refreshed Black Falcons were on the drawing board.
  5. I don't really agree, as there are a ton of media properties that are filled with castles. I don't really want to go point-for-point on that, as it's an exhausting list. Suffice it to say, I think there are plenty of opportunities as far as media goes. Or to put it another way, as this is the real point: fads come and go, but there's no getting away from the basis that is the castle. Whether it's Disney, Harry Potter or Middle Earth, or Dungeons & Dragons or... well, you get the idea. Many of those things can be sliced and diced into their own licensed thing or otherwise. At the end of the day, castles as a concept, and therefore a legitimate touchstone in culture, are here to stay. The degree to which that trickles down to toys that one company makes that will satisfy our very specific desires is one giant question mark. Either way, I don't think we have the ability to understand TLG's motivations. We can either hope or despair. I'm personally somewhere in the middle of that. Hoping for the best, expecting the worst. :) Hahah! Excellent.
  6. Yeah, wish I was excited about this one. But the closer we get to S23 hitting, the closer we get S24 and hopefully a better selection.
  7. I think you're probably right. TLG seems to now realize that there's money to be made with occasional drops of classic-inspired sets, but is not convinced that there is enough juice there to support a full theme. I'm not sure where they get that impression, but whatever. If I can complain about nearly a decade of nothing, I also have to acknowledge that the last 18 months has been pretty great. 4 outstanding sets isn't nothing, even if a whole theme would be preferrable. I imagine they'll dip their toes in ever few years until those of us that were there originally are aged-out of the market, and then they'll be doing occasional special sets for Ninjago in the same way.
  8. Same here, but in this case, I’ve been waiting my whole life for this set. Being told Saturday, only to then be told Tuesday is… not appreciated.
  9. Tracking has updated to Tuesday now. Hopes for weekend building are dashed.
  10. Yeah, it sounds like a lot of us just kind of evolved that direction. The Fantasy Era Crownies were great for this, with more torso options.
  11. So what I’m hearing is that the FedEx tracking is less than useless. Got it.
  12. Has anyone that ordered online received theirs yet? I have a tracking number that says it’ll arrive today, but the current status says it’s in Illinois, so FedEx hasn’t picked it up yet. I’m sure the estimated delivery date is going to change tomorrow and/or when the status changes. I’m beyond tired of waiting for this thing.
  13. Excellent! Really fun to see that great selection of minifigs around the castle.
  14. I would love to have that answer, but I don’t think anybody knows.
  15. Oh, yeah. Makes sense. Thankfully we can call them whatever we want. Anything bigger than the old rounded short sword is a long sword to me.
  16. I’m not sure they have made anything official as far as naming goes. That’s the terminology that’s used on Bricklink, which we tend to use as gospel, but as far as TLG is concerned, I think they’re all just “swords”.
  17. I have no problem with the old school rounded sword or the revised-hilt version. It’s part of the Lego aesthetic. That said, I do really like the two long swords quite a bit. Fun to have variety there.
  18. That’s actually not true. Cavalry swords tend to be lighter one handed pieces. Great swords were an infantry weapon used to counter pikemen.
  19. Hahah, whoops! I feel you. Fingers crossed that TLG finds a good way to get more Lion knights to us. They would be fools not to.
  20. The usual place, Instagram. nothing there for my taste, but they look pretty cool.
  21. I think it’s big-wide, large-high and whoah-deep.
  22. That speckled armor has kind of been in my blind spot for years. Came out during my dark ages on minifigs I didn’t care about, but looking at them on their own, pretty nice.
  23. We’re going to talk about mods we do to the set, MOCs in that style, MOCs that expand the set, completely different MOCs that use the parts and minifigs, new Lion army building, ideas for new sets that could (hopefully) build on the classic castle revival and probably a lot more I can’t think of at the moment.
