How long will a new Lego 9 Volt train motor last
Lazarus replied to jamesed_1971's topic in LEGO Train Tech
everything is fine buying used. I would say just get a new Dark Gray Electric, Train Track Contacts with Wire and 2 x 2 x 2/3 Brick as there is versions of this cable that the wire plastic goes bad and cracks and falls off. I have two of these one with this issue one without. -
Hello All. Felt like making a video on my layout that is almost fully built in brick but the designs I spent over a year making. This is close to what should not be complete later in the year. Enjoy C&C welcome

How long will a new Lego 9 Volt train motor last
Lazarus replied to jamesed_1971's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Should be good for a while, Its load that will kill them. If the train is about 1000-1500 bricks with wagons should be good. But there is ways to fix the 9v motors. So I would not spend 40 pounds on a new one. You can get two used ones for that price and if that if they do die they can be fixed for about 7 pounds. Also nice cute little train -

Can you tell me what slopped brick you are using on the bottom of the side wall. Just try to think how you put them on as there is no inside shots.- 15 replies

I would love to make the Brown ones, but the tan windows are so costly. Might end up making Br blue so my diesels can also pull them. I would be keen on the LDD file if u keen to throw it around.- 15 replies

Thanks Murdock for the kind words, I enjoy having some of your nice desgins on my layout. Good timing after like 6 months of part collecting I have just started building mine this week. And not got around to putting pics up yet. Still waiting on my LUG order to complete it. As my layout is all modular its all on one section, it is my largest section but still transportable, Mine also has a walkover bridge on the end over the pathway over the track, hope to get a completed pic soon if these orders every show. Progress shots of mine.

Nice looks good, close to mine but I think this is topping mine now. I would say drop it to 7 wide, as your FS is only 6/7 wide. These would fit my 8 wide FS well.- 15 replies

Ahh good idea Duq will give that a try. I will have to wait till its built I think it should be ok as most of the inner walls are removed. there is one point that might hit there is above the rear points motor when I might try and cut off.

I am sure the Mk1 only had doors on each end not in the middle. Nice design, I need to rework my 8 wide ones to 7 wide. Also those new windows are rare and expencive, thats why I still have not built mine they worked out to be about $100 nz each.- 6 replies

One of the guys at my club just uses Peco Rails and the old gray/blue 12v track ties to make his nice long sweeping bend. Takes a bit of time to make he said but the outcome is very nice on the main club layout.

Very nice loco, I mainly do british but this might be a good mod for my default lego Red freight train

Can you show me some pics of your work so i can see what might be wrong. with motor in and out of the black case and pic of the area you cut back. I did my RC convershion above in about 30mins and worked first time with no issues. But the first convershion I did was a bit more of a fiddle, its all about how it sits in the case. Did you get gear slipage when you held the motor in place, ohh forgot to say when doing this hold one set of wheels also and then try any turn the other if there is no slipping it should be good, if there is then its not flush. I have some videos of the convershion on my You tube channel have a watch.
-
Ok take the bottom off hold the case and motor down with your thumb and with the other hand try and spin the wheels and tell me witch side is slipping if its the modded side or unmodded. The motor needs to be fully flush on the case and the modded end of the motor needs to sit well into the stock black U support. Could you take a pic of the cutting you have done. There is a nack to it and 1mm off will course this issue I had it will one or two. Also is the bottome case cover coming off a little as this mm or two of gap will make the gears slip to I had to glue some bases back on due to it coming away after some running.
-
Does it sound like gears slipping, if it does the motor might not be flush on the bottom or maybe a wire is getting pushed onto the gears. They are the only sounds I ever got from the ones I have done. Note dont replace the old 9v gears (the ones on the metal pole) with the new ones just the motor swap over. The gears are not identical they are to the eye but they slip.

Bit more work of stuff to go into the fiddle yard. A pumping station for Oil/fuel, fills in space and give a train a reason to be there.
-
Ok did a bit more work on the flood light, managed to angle a little more with a different bucket piece. Will be able to do more in real life due to the 1x1 clip piece is hitting the bucket and could just be trimmed down to make it angle more. Some pics also added a bit more height i think it about right, some pics with trains next to it.

I held the faces in there by using 1x1 bricks and rotating the portal to the place i wanted and then putting as many 1x1 bricks in the places they match. only about 3-4 a portal but as its on big mash of bricks they wont move the hill and roof and sides will hold it all in place. To give you an idea on how the switches will be, due to them being customer I used straights and bends to give me the idea of how they will look. Also my ballast makes my track width about 12 studs wide so most locos dont even over hang over the ballast but to be due I made the double tunnel wider and there is nothing but a face on the single so clearance should be good. See below.

Been working on some lights today, not many pics around of UK yards and buildings but the ones i found had spot lights around the show.
-
- Small tunnels no mayor put an arm in. - All my points are controlled by remote switches, I will hook LEDs up to these ones so i know what direction they are going in. - In the tunnel there is two Hard right switches so yes point modding. - I am going to look around at some UK fiddle yard pics soon and get any idea of how a working one looks.
