  1. What's the bad news? they are discontinuing pneumatics?
  2. If somebody told me that in front of a whole room of people (let alone on TV) I'd respond "well, at least I have functional hands" then proceed to break his fingers.
  3. Cool MOC. I only remember this ship from the Tie Fighter game from the 90s - I blew up thousands of these .
  4. Oh yeah, I love it too, don't get me wrong. I'm just poking at Lego when the stuff they do is so silly that it becomes adorable and hilarious at the same time.
  5. SO TRUE!!!   And these people often turn up to be the ones who pay big bucks to go see two sweaty big burly men spending the evening touching each other and pretend to be actually fighting ("pro" wrestling) Another one I often get after I tell them I put in approx. $30K in my collection is "You could have bought a very nice car with that!".I never owned a car in my life; I use a bicycle to go everywhere around the city. My rebuttal is easy: my collection is easily worth 150% to 200% what I put into it now. I started seriously collecting in 2002; what would a 30K car bought in 2002 be worth today, even if I didn't use it much? 10K tops. Argument won!
  6. I want an Alderaan planet model. Press a lever in the back, and the model explodes into a thousand bricks! Includes Bail Organa minifigure. And of course in true patented Lego cartoon violence, he doesn't die, he just floats in space with a sad smiley on his face.
  7. 700 000 indeed seems huge since I am at about 101 000 myself and been collecting for 10 years and have more than 250 sets.
  8. Me too. I LOLed. Also love the plain cardboard boxes with address tags
  9. The 8859 is one of 3 sets that I ended up "bricklinking" to get ie: order every part individually. It was loads of fun. That set is even more fun when you build the different farm implements that require the supplemental parts pack. The 8859 alt model is a cute minivan. http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=98176
  10. I acknowledge that many people stop playing Lego when entering their teens (I'm guilty as charged) because teens are, well, usually obsessed with being popular and try to sever any ties with childhood. Once you're into your mid-20s, moved out of your parents' and have a job, you're pretty much immune to any criticism. I once met a girl and let her know about my massive Lego collection right away - shamelessly sent her links to most of my big sets, and she found it "totally endearing", her own words. After a few dates, I invited her to my appartment and she was actually very disappointed that almost all my sets were dismantled and put back in the boxes (bad timing: I was in the process of moving them) so she didn't see any assembled Lego models. Can't blame her. Since the "40 year old virgin" came out, a toy collector keeping all his toys in boxes gives a very bad, creepy, obsessive impression. On the other hand an adult playing with his toys and creating wonderful MOCs and scenery is seen as an eccentric and creative person. That's my impression anyway. Not that I really care anymore, though. Also, when I start talking about Lego (or showing my Legos) one of my friend gets depressed because that reminds him that he has no hobby. "I need a hobby", he says. Video games don't count.
  11. Please show some pictures!!! (I dont have the sets yet) :( Forgive me for the bad quality, I only have a Quickcam at the moment. The two yellowheads are from set 8404-Public transport. The tram driver looks like he's wearing a Wig. Eomer looks like some snotty prince with a perm, like the villain in Princess Bride. Only the female doesn't look completely ridiculous with Hobbit hair
  12. I'm 37, came out of my dark ages when I was 27 (2002) and could possibly care less what other people think of me...I'm the Sheep Eater after all. But most people happen to respect my hobby, and if they don't see the value of it, they acknowledge that Lego is NOT wasted money due to the high resale value. And I'm not only into Technic, I also like City/Trains and Lord of the Rings.
  13. I am astounded nobody else thought about it so far, but try this: Put hobbit hair on ANY other minifig, from ANY theme. Or other lotr characters, why not. It will forever be impossible to take Aragorn or Gandalf seriously after you've seen them wearing Sam's hair. Eomer with Frodo's hair looks like that Prince villain from the Princess Bride. Hobbit hair on Orcs = WTF. No need to post pictures - just try it. If you're like me, you'll be rolling on the floor laughing like a crazy scientist. :laugh_hard: Darth Vader with Frodo's hair looks particularly menacing.
  14. Yeah, mid-december I believe. And Lego Hobbit sets 2 weeks before that.
  15. Shelob Attacks is a good seller, too. There's a book/toy shop chain store in Canada called Renaud Bray and the one in my street had LOTR sets for only 2 weeks and already ran out of Shelob's.
  16. This is the best I could do with my quickcam.
  17. Beorn's house is  The only thing I would have liked to see in that last video is Tauriel.
  18. Yes, I know about the 8451's alternate model and I built it, it looks good for the amount of pieces used (less than 180), but it's very small Here's an image for those who haven't seen it. I meant a LARGE road grader. Flagship size would be nice, but I'd be happy with a 700 piece one too. And I'd prefer pneumatics to LAs. Isn't it what the 8043 B Model is?
  19. Love the details and the colors
  20. In my own experience they have never asked for their parts in the past, but if they do, I hope they'll pay for shipment; but doing, so they'll lose money. I remember sending back an entire set to get my money back (Mindstorms vision command). They didn't even wait for the set to come back to refund my money.
  21. Because I paid $74.99 plus tax for that tiny set whose main selling points are the two Nazgul minifigs + horses, and Meriadoc Brandybuck. And because I am a grown man obsessed with plastic toys made for kids.
  22. It's plain to see that Lego has proven very stubborn since the 2000s up to now, to ONLY sticking to vehicles, so I know that whatever contraption I'd love to see in the form of a Technic set (like the T-Rex from 8485) is only wishful thinking, since Lego would just rather do ANOTHER crane truck. I swear, crane trucks (as good as some of them are, like 8110) are the Technic analog to Police Stations in the City line. So, let's separate the wishes between vehicle and non-vehicle, since the latter we know have a next-to-nothing chance of appearing. My vehicle wish-list: - A road-grader. - A floating boat with motorized propellers. (We need both a large boat propellor piece and technic hull) - Cable car - A minifig scale wrecking ball machine! My non-vehicle wish-list: - A working clock - a 3000 piece great ball contraption! - a life-size crossbow - a Babbage mechanical calculator - a Lord of the Rings themed catapult, ballista or Trebuchet
  23. Why would they bother printing silver at all on some torsos if the intended color is gray? This is reminding me of the nightmare of buying a 8285 set in summer of 2007 all over again and calling Lego multiple times. (For you non-technic guys, 8285 Tow Truck was the flagship set of 2006 and mid-run they decided to change all chrome silver parts to gray for the newer batch. I WAS not happy about that, but eventually, after long time, got all the silver parts I wanted).
  24. I think you've officially created the very first LoTR / Technic hybrid MOC! Congrats It's a big large for minifig scale, though.
  25. Yup, 8043 is a terrific set. The alternate model really impressed me, too. Don't pay MSRP for it - on Bricklink many Europeans are selling it MISB from $130 to $145!
