  1. I would wait till double VIP points. There won't be a rush on this set due to the price, not like the Slave 1.
  2. Since I have the Star Wars Death Star and can see just how good Lego can be when they go really big, I'm just disappointed in this set. I understand that the whole thing can't be Minifigure scale, but the compromise was so well pulled off on the Death Star. Microfigures here look like a silly afterthought. And only five regular minifigures for the price is horrible - that Maria Hill I feel could be almost made from other parts once a shield agent figure comes out. Overall, it's a pass.
  3. 2013 and it didn't do too well. Seems they have quite a few left over.
  4. Agreed, this answer really sums it up! Build what to like with what you have. As long as it's good for you, who cares how large or small or complicated the MOC is?
  5. They were a series in October. You got one of the sets each week with a purchase (might have been like $75 or more). Each week was another set, with four total. The problem was the buy in was so high for something that most people can make themselves and had tiny bricks. Most stores around here still have them.
  6. Ha! That first one is hilarious... I guess for all the special printing that Lego does for licensed sets, it would be good for them to get more creative with their base face printing.
  7. I chuckled a bit when I read that. I've had a similar problem - I've been looking for a Minifigure that represents me, but I can't find one that's bald, has a goatee, and wears glasses. I've found one that's bald with the goatee, but no glasses (I've seen the one with the protective goggles, but that's not me. I think the minifigure with no hair (just a stud) looks fine. I think if it had a covering piece for the stud it could look weird, like a cone head. As for cool goatees, you try Tony Stark from the marvel line or Aragorn from LotR.
  8. I've noticed TRU hasn't been doing well with their promos lately. The recent Rocket Raccoon, ninja turtles, and ninjago polybags all eventually made it in the large bins for purchase whereas earlier you could only get them with another purchase. There's at least one store in my area that has multiple full sets of the October micro buildings for sale on the shelf. This all points to the idea that maybe tru isn't really all that successful with managing Lego promos...
  9. That's brilliant! I've never seen studs used on flowers before. And Bilbo looks perfect. Very fun use of colors and the scale and staging are excellent. Thanks for posting that!
  10. I used to save them for my birthday, but lately have been spending them just to bring down costs on MOCs or promos.
  11. I think the CMF figure is the best way to army build on the cheap. There's some good parts like the torso and head piece. Granted the face printing isn't overly scary, it is serviceable. Also don't forget that helmets help... I'm hoping the Goblin CMF opens the door to a potential Orc CMF down the line.
  12. I've heard of nail polish being used on action figures to help tighten ball-socket joints. By coating the surface with alittle nail polish, it makes the joints tighter. Granted this doesn't help the concept of using nail polish on Legos, but it does illustrate that nail polish can be pretty tough.
  13. The helmet's a bit big, but I can see how they might re-purpose the mold for Cap A or Ant-Man sometime in the future. Otherwise, it does make the drone look a bit odd.
  14. Printed tiles, like maps, newspapers, letters, etc. Just something cool about how much story they can present when used in MOCs and the like. Plus, I never had anything like that when I had Legos as a kid.
  15. I see alot of blu rays being on clearance because of this guy...
  16. Picked up two copies of this set a couple days ago. I love the black royal guards, but I think the highlighting on the stormtrooper's helmet is a bit too strong. In hand, the lighter grey over the face portion almost looks like a printing error.
  17. Marvel: X-Men set. Great minifigures (except Magneto), cool Sentinel, and not a bad (if small) jet. DC: Joker's Steamroller set. Great minifigures of classic looks and a cool simple build. Plus lots of vibrant brick colors. Overall a much quieter year for comic sets.
  18. A very good point. The Hobbit had such little merchandise compared to LOTR at the retail level. There was a failed action figure line that was virtually a TRU exclusive (and not complete) and then there were online exclusives like Weta statues and trading cards. But without a heavier in store presence, Lego was really the only one doing something for the IP at the retail level.
  19. I can tolerate the $7.99 new price, but my only hope is that Lego makes more variety in the color of plates... I did buy the sand colored one a couple days ago because it was well needed for a Tatooine scene.
  20. In slightly unfortunate news, I found The Hobbit Witch-King Battle on clearance at Target for $10.49. All copies of the set were red stickered clearance, as was the shelf tag. They had no other LOTR/Hobbit sets out. This was only at one Target, so your mileage may vary...
  21. The Hobbit Unexpected Gathering and The Hobbit Witch-King Battle. Both were high on my wish list. I'm hoping to use the second Gathering set to expand a Shire build...
  22. I mix and match my yellows despite what line they're from all the time. In my opinion there's nothing wrong with keeping, say Castle figures, in with City stuff because there's tons of reasons why it might be applicable. Maybe some people are going to a ren-faire or buying antiques, who knows. That's the fun of having such a near complete world of product. The only thing I don't keep with my yellows is just the fleshie licensed stuff, but that's only for figures, I can still see using a Marvel vehicle in the City landscape. I used to be very disciplined with my collecting and never mixed anything, but this year I've definitely learned that it's ok and encouraged to do so.
  23. I can see where these types of lists might hurt lego's licensed partners, but I don't know Lego can't let a list of their own material for the year be released. It really does help planning for costs, especially since everything tends to get more expensive. That list just made me more interested in the year's products and isn't that kinda the point of good marketing...?
  24. Lego just has so much lined up for next year and beyond with Star Wars and marvel. These days movies/IPs don't feel like they've made it till they get a Lego set. With marvel planned out till like 2052, how could Lego have time for an ending movie IP like LOTR...?
  25. I think some battle packs would have gone a long, long way for this line. It is the "battle of five armies" after all, so troops would be welcome. I mean I'd easily pay the going rate of $12 for a battle pack of two dwarves and two orcs. Then another one with two elves and a mounted warg rider. Literally, the whole final movie is just one big fight...
