  1. I like the smooth transition from wet sand to dry sand and the waves gently crashing on the beach. I can totally imagine the splashing sounds the characters make as they wade through the last few meters of water before coming ashore. The whole scene feels really alive and the vibrant tree adds a great splash of color to the scene.
  2. Lovely build. The vegetation and landscaping is great and the minifig poses and expressions are spot-on. I really love the palm tree design. I really have to try my hand at making one myself sometime.
  3. Soo, it's been a while since I posted anything here and Oleon has claimed a new island in the time I was gone. I am currently building another MOC for BoBS and I was wondering if I could place it anywhere on the map? I couldn't really find an answer in the rules, but can a character start a new colony/town on his own or does one need approval from the powers that be? I was thinking of starting my own new colony on ÃŽle de Zeus, but if I can't do that I'll just add the property to Astrapi then. I hope to have my MOC finished sometime next week or so .
  4. Here's a variant of the Oleon flag I made: I doesn't fit the official Lego flag, because I made it to be used as a graphic more than a real genuine flag in MOCs.
  5. First off, congrats Stick Fig! Second, I've not been very active lately as well. Life's just been rather overwhelming. Good thing #130 came to an end when it did. I wouldn't have known how to mix both otherwise . I think things ought to calm down in some weeks.
  6. Great MOC, I love it! The offsetting of the red brick-bricks is genius! . The photography is very good as well, I had to look at least three times to make sure I wasn't looking at a render . Stunning work on such a "small" MOC.
  7. Eric raised a curious eyebrow when his friend left so soon. He usually stays for at least a couple of drinks. Then again, everyone has got their errands to run, so the Nord didn't think much of it. "Pretzel", Eric grinned wolfish. "It's been a while. How have you been lately?" Hearing about the "dread pirate", Eric simply shrugged and said: "Never heard of this 'dread' pirate. Probably just much ado about nothing."
  8. Very nice! That Spinning Jenny Penny looks awesome. The whole building has a very industrial feel to it with the brick walls and the many small windows it has. Well done! .
  9. Haha, thanks! . I made the avatar in Photoshop. You probably could make a widget to "pimp" your avatar like this, but my programming skills aren't really all that top-notch to make such an application, sadly. The flag is an Oleon variant I made myself: Thanks! The mist is rather thick because I wanted to mix the natural fog from the forest with the aftermath of a a small gunpowder fight. There'd be lots of smoke there, I reckon.
  10. Thanks! I didn't come up with the aspen trees myself, though, I saw the design sometime ago in some other MOC (probably in Guilds of Historica or something) and it just stayed in my mind. I like the look too . The pond actually looks better in real life. In the photos it's just like it's built from black bricks while in fact it are trans-black bricks over a blue underground. I'll have to work on my photography skills some . Thanks! I love a good dramatic story . An unknown and uncharted land covered in thick forests, inhabited with wild tribes, is just fuel for the imagination and I love telling a story .
  11. Lovely build! The concept is nice with your character being on the cliff and spying on the natives. Personally I'm not a fan of the green leaves on the trunk of the tree. I I think it's would've been better to leave the trunk bare, but each has their own likings . Like some other folk here said, adding some brown plates, or maybe even green ones, to add some elevation to the ground floor where the natives are dancing might make things more interesting there. But overall, this is a really nice MOC . For Oleon!
  12. Thanks for the comments. Criticism is always welcome . I don't build that much, but I'd like to do it more often and get better at it. My collection is rather limited at the time, though . Expect more from this tale of discovery by Henri, I plan on expanding on it with a freebuild or so. Revenge? Who knows how many of these devils are out there! We ought to proceed with caution and look for survivors, then assess the situation and look how we can strengthen our position on the island without wasting too much men and supplies .
  13. Instantly recognizable! What a fitting tribute, both to the painting and the ship. Did you Photoshop the sun or did you put a light or something behind the sheet?
  14. Lovely shack! It reminds me of an Avatar episode with a village also built on the water like this. It's amazing to see how much you have packed into such a tiny space. There's a boat AND a house, plus they're both filled with people. The shack is the greatest part though. I really like the way you built the sideway log walls.
  15. Lovely build! It's tiny, but packed with detail. It breathes southern/hot climate and atmosphere. Brick bricks are great, can't wait to get some Dark Red ones, but they're just so expensive .
  16. And so the glorious Pombe comes to Brethren of the Seas . Great build and your story cracked me up, as always. Great to have you here .
  17. First Chapter: The Heart of Darkness (Land Ho!) I am on the run. The Realm of Hades is real for I have seen it. I witnessed the demons that lived therein and now I run. What have we done to earn this curse from the Gods? Like many others we set out to discover new lands, which we eventually did, but it was not at all as expected. Together with several other men I was sent out to forage and explore our surroundings by my Lord and Commander of the expedition: the blessed Henri Antoine La Valette, de la Rocheforte. May the Gods watch over this noble man. We should've known this land was cursed from the start. At first sight it looks and feels like home. The cold, the snow, the pine trees. Yet around every corner there lurks something new and it changes our entire experience of this land. Above all, though, the desolateness and primeval wildness gives me the creeps. All one can hear is the creaking of trees, the howling of the wind and the movement of nature in general. These forests are alive, but we know not with what. Our group hit a small body of water and decided to take a break. We heard the singing of birds, which we had not heard before. We admired the sounds, but they were like the sounds of the mythical sirens, only meant to enthrall us. Before we knew it, several of our troops fell down and arrows whizzed around us. Out of the tree line they came, painted devils, servants of Hades. Cruel heathen dogs. I scurried away and saw them slaughter and enslave my comrades. They cut off their scalps and proudly displayed them as trophies while yelling bestial shrieks. They stole our blue coats and wore them to mock us. Despite the cold, many were dressed in nothing but leathers and some even went bare-chested. Their head was shaven, bare for a spiked ridge across their skull and their faces and bodies were festooned with hellish markings. I was lucky to be able to scurry away. Who knows what my fate would've been? May Zeus bless my journey so I can make it back to Henri and recount what I have witnessed. Two unedited pictures:
  18. Thanks for all the comments everybody! I appreciate it . I thought there'd be more criticism on the snowy aspect of the island, but I'm kind of happy there isn't . Haha, the face I use for Henri only has one side, so his serious expression is the only expression the man has sadly .
  19. Nice quick build! I love the terrain build-up and the wood pole fence with the skulls. It's good that you placed the poles somewhat random to give it that primitive look. The cave underneath and the bone near the fire are a nice touch. Are we perhaps dealing with a cannibal here? The only thing I'd do away with would be the Viking shield, it kind of detracts from the "native" feeling the build has .
  20. Eric grinned. "I take it that you mean one of us both ought to be at the top, not one of us 'Heroes' in general?" The Nord waved his hand and ordered another drink. "Ja, I've heard about these factions." He shrugged. "I don't care much for them, though. In the end, it's everybody themselves. Besides, what good could come if either of the rivaling factions wins? One's filled with dreamers, the other's just some elitist snobs like the Bonapartes thinking they can run this city." He laughed: "Heh, I'd only support myself to be King of this city. Most of the others are just too much of simpletons. They're too weak-minded to do anything."
  21. Yay, I made a build ! It's not much and it won't grant me much, if any, DB, I guess, but it's a start . I'll have to try and build me some property...
  22. My entry for Category B. It's not much, but it's a start . EDIT: Here's my Category A entry.
  23. Tensions rose and excitement grew as the most powerful nations of the Old World set out to discover new lands in the East. Like many other, so too did Henri La Valette leave his domains in northern Oleon and sailed off. First, he visited his holdings on LeBellan and gathered some more men there and then finally went on to discover the unknown. Crossing the Sea of Storms however, both of Henri's vessel were struck by a powerful storm. Battered by heavy rainfall and blown off course by violent winds, Henri and his men were lost at sea. Having great difficulty assessing their position in these uncharted waters, they nevertheless pushed forward, dreaming of gold and newfound riches. Finally they found land, but it was not what they had in mind at all. It was nowhere near as tropical as LeBellan. In fact, it was cold and it reminded them more of home than some other place. Henri sent out a foraging party, but when they didn't return after a great amount of time, he decided to go out by himself and some of his men to try and find his lost soldiers. The undergrowth was thick and the air was cold. Patches of snow dotted the landscape and the party experienced a lot of difficulty trying to make their way through the pine trees. On top of that, Henri felt like he was being watched with every step he took on this Gods-forsaken island. What madness lies within these forests? So here's my build for the first Challenge. It's not that big, I know, but it's been a while since I had my hand at some landscaping so I wanted to try that here. I tried making an irregular base, but the result isn't completely to my liking. I hope it's okay that the island is more snow-y and winter-y, or does it absolutely have to be more caribbean style?
  24. Aw crap, NOW you say that! I'll make use of his services later then .
