  1. Eric patted his wound and cursed. He repeats his attack on Paladin Infantry B, if he's dead already then Paladin Priest. From the front row.
  2. Eric spun Natnail's blade around in his hand and grinned. It was no Conspirator, but it would have to do. "Let's spill some blood." Eric attacks Paladin Infantry from the front row, using Natnail's sword.
  3. "Tsk, you think Ennoc watches over you?", Eric mocked the Paladins. "Bring it, girls." Eric wasn't gifted with any magical skills, so he looked around him to see if he could find anything of use to dole out some divine wrath with. Eric looks for a weapon, from the front row.
  4. "Money, right? That's what we're fighting for, isn't it?", Eric bluntly replied to Pretzel. He knew that Pretzel probably had a different reason in mind, but he didn't really care. Money, and of lesser importance fame, were primarily Eric's motivators in lending his sword to Heroica. The Nord watched as the situation grew more tense around him. He wasn't planning on staying at first, after all Heroica was done for and those days now lay past him. His mind changed however when the Town Guard barged in, spewing nonsense about a curfew that some self-appointed Council of Prosperity and Peace had put upon the free citizens of Eubric. The Man. It made Eric's blood boil. His free Nordic spirit could not be tamed, especially not by some invisible power that had yet to prove its worth to him. He didn't really care about Kukulkan or the Copper Fox, nor did he share much of the Wolfgang's ideals, except bringing down the established order, but right now Eric chose to stand up to the Town Guard. Eric barged forward to the commotion and confronted the Town Guard. "Curfew? Nah, I'd rather stay up late. I'll go home when I choose to. Besides, the way things are going, it looks like it'll be an interesting evening." His trademark grin grew wider once more and with a condescending look in his eyes and venom in his words he spat: "Besides what are you going to do about? You're nothing but a helpless lackey. You have no power here."
  5. Eric shook his head and casually waved Throlar's comment away. "Barely. I have other means of collecting information on the city and its inhabitants. Obviously I know about the Houses' downfall and Heroica shutting down, but why is everybody gathered here?"
  6. Alright, nice! Glad to be on board.
  7. The Nord looked down upon the old monk and clicked his tongue. "Riiiight..." Knowing it would probably be best to leave the old coot alone, Eric couldn't help but answer the man's questions. He grinned slyly and replied: "Nej, you know me, Monk. I'm not one susceptible to corruption and I just couldn't bear Heroica tearing itself apart by dividing itself into warring groups. That's just bad for business, so I left." The Nord tapped his nose and winked. "So, tell me. What's all this about?", Eric asked as he surveyed the bustling tavern. "This place is a shithole."
  8. Really great to see some of the old players posting too! Like I said in the Quest topic, I just really wanted to make a post there too, even though I just missed the deadline. It'd be really cool if I could still tag along for the last ride though. But if I'm too late, I totally understand! I just wanted to let it be known to the world that Eric is now a small business owner, now that the heroing days are nearly over .
  9. Player note: I know I just missed the actual deadline, WBD (and others), but seeing the others and realizing this might be the last ever Heroica Quest, really made me want to make a post here. Rumors of a rival drinking establishment suddenly flourishing with newfound clientele permeated the atmosphere of the Njordon's Hall. The tavern was mainly frequented by those of Nordic origin, but was actually open to all. It mostly catered to those working in the harbour and the many sailors of Eubric. Njordon's Hall was well-known for its fine nordic mead that was served there and the many other services it offered, most of the carnal kind. A fog of stories and rumors surrounded the Hall and its owner, but the rumors remained rumors and were yet to be proven fact. It was publicly known the owner was into some shady business and had acquired the tavern through some nefarious deal. If you had the coin, you could most likely get whatever you wished there, as it was a den for smugglers and their kind. One of the more unfounded rumors, however, was that the owner was somehow connected to the Bonaparte riots, maybe had his hand in them or in the very least profited in some way from the Bonaparte's downfall and the temporary vacuum that brought with it. The buzz in the Hovels had not gone by unnoticed for Eric. Slumped in the throne he had made, he surveyed the grounds of Njordon's Hall, his Hall. The place was filled with people spending their coin on booze and women, but the Nord found little joy in that today. Silently he tapped the arms of the throne, contemplating his next move. When he could not longer keep it still, he got up, retrieved Conspirator and Godricsleif and went out. He needed to see what was going on in the Hovel with his own eyes. On his way there, Eric passed Heroica Hall and raised an eyebrow. The place looked remarkably empty. Now it had been a while since he was last there, but still, the Nord had always remembered the place as teeming with life. With a steady step, the Nord continued to march to the Hovels, the cold air filling his longs. He closed his eyes to enjoy the feeling. It took Eric some time to reach the Hovels and then find his way to the place he had been hearing so much about: Lady Luck's Locale. Much to his dismay, he handed over his weapons to the bouncer. The Nord cracked his fists and his neck. If push came to shove, he'd have to do it this way then, he figured. Entering the tavern, Eric was overtaken with surprise for a brief moment at the sight of all the Heroes there. "Vad i namnet...", he muttered. He scanned the crowd and spotted some familiar faces. Then he spotted Pretzel the Monk and then Throlar, the ambassador. "You have got to be kidding me", the Nord stood there, somewhat flabbergasted.
  10. Cool MOC! Like others have said, it has a sense of grandeur about it. The only thing I kind of dislike are the trans-blue doors on the left and the right. They feel too modern to me and kind of kill the 18th century architecture vibe the rest of the building portrays so well. I like the way you made the liquor bottles by putting a diamond on a regular wine bottle .
  11. I really like the first photo. The minifig posing there is great! The framing of the photo, combined with the blurry background gives it a sense of urgency as the characters run through the jungle. The technique for the palm tree is interesting, I don't think I've seen one built like that before.
  12. I can echo what Elostirion has already said. That white arch is really well done. The white details in general give the build a visual boost. It just looks so elegant.
  13. Nice build! I like the protruding beams in the side of the buidling. It reminds of those buidlings you see in Zorro. The small tent you made is simple but effective.
  14. @Ayrlego, thanks for the photography advice! Your setup looks great. I have an old lightbox I made in art school way back, so I use that one, but it doesn't quite do the job like I'd want it to do. The main issue is probably my lights. I'll have to check if I can score some better ones somewhere to up my photo game . The link you posted was an interesting read as well, so thanks for that too!
  15. Thanks! Yes, @Ayrlego's photography (and that of others here) is definitely what I'd like to achieve at some point. I have a decent camera, so that's surely not the problem. My main issue is lighting the MOC in a proper way. If I use extra lights, everything turns too yellow. If I don't use lights, it's always really dark and the photos lose quality when I lighten them in Photoshop . I looked through the photography thread in the General Forum and found *some* tips, but the more information the better of course . Thanks for the comment. I like background stuff, so I really like going through things such as Jameis Guide . I'm more into the stories of BoBS than the actual EGS and such, so I love a good read. Here's the picture I was talking about. I mainly tried to recreate feeling of the red buildings with the grass rooftops.
  16. Just wanted to say that I started a new character. Like I said in the linked topic, I never really found a way to kickstart Henri's story again or got his story off the ground in the first place. By making him some super important aristocrat I felt I kind of blocked myself in terms of building. I never licensed any builds with the character, nor did I ever participate in the EGS or the likes, so I probably don't even have doubloons on his name . I won't ditch the character completely, I'll use him in a cameo perhaps or reference him; I'll try and focus on my new character and his story instead in builds from now on. Magnus Erikssen. Currently Garvian dockhand, soon to be soldier in the Légion étrangère of Oléon.
  17. The small coastal village of Bertelshafn was still half asleep when young Magnus softly closed the door behind him. The early morning fog rising from the water coupled with small flecks of snow falling from the sky gave the village a serene feeling, fit for the time of the year. The closed door was symbolic in a way, as Magnus had chosen to give his life a new direction. The typical Garvian village life was not enough for him. He wanted more. More adventure. See more of the world. Sure, he could become a rum runner, rogue or sail the seas as a smuggler, but at what risk? Where were the heroics in that? The steady pay to support his family? No, young Magnus Erikssen had made a decision: he had gathered his belongings and would now travel to Oleon and volunteer in its legendary Légion étrangère, a military formation open to men of all backgrounds, professions and nationalities. Famed for its courage, battle prowess and iron discipline. His adventure was just beginning, the time had come to leave rugged Garveig behind and serve a new King. For Oléon! --- A rather simple build of mine to introduce Magnus. I never really knew where to take the previous character I had made for Era I of BoBS or how to tie him in to other ideas or storylines I wanted to portray. Therefore I made a new character, way lower on the social ladder which makes it (in my eyes) easier for me to include him in builds. Will I completely ditch Henri? Definitely not. I will try to reference him or cameo him from time to time, but my focus will be on Magnus from now on. Concerning the MOC: at first I only built the house on the left as a backdrop to introduce Magnus, but I quickly expanded upon it and made it a larger scene. There's really nothing much to it, since it's just a simple backdrop, but I do like the white-dark red-darkgreen color combo. I was inspired by a picture from a link in the Garvey description in Jameis Farstrider's Guide. I tried to recreate the peat roof, but perhaps I should've used some more grass stalks to give it more of that grassy feeling. I'd really like to build more in this style, but I already depleted practically all of my dark red for this simple backdrop, so I doubt I'll build anything more complex anytime soon . Again, sorry for the quality of the photo. The lighting was really dark and I had to Photoshop it quite a bit to get it somewhat decent, but I lost a lot of detail. Any tips on decent photography? Like, what lamps I should use to light the scene?
  18. Thanks! I'm nitpicking here, since I get what you're saying, but I made some concept art a while back of actual Oleon Foreign Legionnaires which I plan on using in a MOC soon (or later, but definitely once ). The soldiers you see here are just regular Oleon infantry, native units to be precise. But like I said, I get what you meant .
  19. Thanks for the great comments! I'm glad you like the small build and accompanying soldiers. The chickens were added to make the build feel more alive and give it a somewhat rural, backwater feeling. The skylight thingy was inspired by the stuff on the roofs in Jerusalem in the first Assassin's Creed game, in which you can hide. I made it from faint memory to give the build a more middle eastern feel, but I should've made the cloth somewhat longer. I plan on doing a small series of these builds, to develop the story somewhat more. However, my schedule is really busy so I can't really say when the next installment will come.
  20. Long have the lands of Guelph been a domain of the Oleander Crown and the culture of the motherland seeps deep into its sands. Sometimes however, trouble still stirs amongst the natives of Guelph. Stimulated either by nefarious foreign meddling and instigation or by internal disagreement with the current state of affairs several branches of a new cult began popping up in different New Oleander cities and villages. These acolytes follow the teachings of the Scorpion King, Ankor, and call themselves the Cult of the Scorpion. As enlightened as Oleonese society is, acts of religious dissent, demagogy and inciting the populace against the state are severely looked down upon and swiftly dealt with. Spurred on by both the Faith and the Governor, soldiers of the New Oleonese Army crack down upon the known locations of sympathizers of the Cult. Here, a mixed force of Tirailleurs and Dragoons - a typical combination in Guelph military operations - are ready to breach the house of several conspirators and confiscate everything pertaining to the mysterious Scorpion King and his followres and take hold of the illegal weapons rumored to be stockpiled in the house. Of course, any lead to the fabled treasures of this Scorpion King are welcome finds as well... For the Faith, for the Crown! --- I wanted to make a small MOC to showcase some of my men in action and get back into building some more. I wanted to take some more photos, but the weather and lighting's been really bad here, so these were the only decent ones I got . The third one's kind of bad, but you get the general idea. Even though it's a small MOC, C&C is always welome !
  21. Lovely MOC! The way you made the rolling waves and the micro ships is really nice!. The stern is great looking as well . I'm guessing the MOC is based other on the Mutiny on the Bounty or perhaps Géricault's Raft ?
  22. I love watching your story unfold and the MOCs that go with it. Asian/Japanese Lego builds are a bit of a niche, so it's always nice to see such creations pop up . The sliding door is a nice touch! The story vaguely reminds me of the movie 'Silence'.
  23. Hi guys! Sometimes I browse these forums to see what new quests or characters have come up, so I saw you're going to do a Final Quest to End All Quests. Can't wait to see it! I won't participate, I'll leave the player slots for the players more actively participating than me. Still, I do want to wrap-up Eric's story somewhat so that he has official closure, before Heroica truly ends. Maybe I'll make a post about it in the Hall sometime . Too bad, I got burned up with the game before I ever got to playing Eric as a Vindicator. Now that Heroica is finishing, I also wanted to say how much I enjoyed all this, even though I wasn't always the most active of members. I will miss RP'ing with Sarge and Monk Pretzel in particular. Even though Eric and Pretzel had their differences, I could really appreciate the character . For those interested, I have tons of background lore for the Vikings and their culture on my hard drive. I created it to serve as context for Eric's story and also as preparation for a huge Norse Quest I wished to host once, but for which I just couldn't find the time. If you want I could gather the stuff I have and post it here (or a separate thread). Maybe you RP'ers can use it for another RP or story.
  24. To be honest, I had never seen Lord Buckethead's Royal Engineers before! There is indeed a striking similarity, but it wasn't my intention. I just searched for helmets most closely resembling something Dragoon-ish and the bobby helmet was the most pleasing option. I was actually truly inspired by your hussars and dragoons from your flickr photostream. I wanted to make an Oleander version, with some obvious differences of course . Yeah, I choose the legs with the black boots because they portray riding boots the best and thus differentiate these guys visually from the infantry minfigs.
  25. Hiya guys! I'm trying to get a small MOC finished and then take some decent photos of it. I have some new soldiers for Oleon I wanted to show in the meantime. I was waiting to use them in a MOC, but I just love 'em to much to withhold them from the public eye for so long . Inspired (again) by @Ayrlego's troops, I present to you: the Oleander Dragoon. The picture is kind of bad, but I made it tonight under low light, so all in all it's okay considering the circumstances. Some fluff from my own: "The Oleonder Dragoons are an infamous cavalry force, known for their deeds both on and next to the battlefield. They are for most part made up from the youngest sons of the lower nobility or otherwise wealthy mercantile families. These youngsters have little claim to the sometimes vast riches of their families and as such, they search their fame and fortune elsewhere. Whereas members of the higher classes often enlist in the regular heavy cavalry or infantry officer corps, these men find they lust for adventure satiated in the ranks of the Dragoons. Somewhere in between cavalry and infantry, Dragoons are a versatile unit, righteously feared on the battlefield. Due to their versatile nature, Dragoons are also oft employed as a police force or occupation troop. Many a savage tale besmudging the reputation of the Dragoons stems from their sometimes abysmal and tyranical behaviour towards the subjected populace." Like often, I also made a concept artwork first of these guys, since I didn't have some parts and I wanted to get an idea beforehand of how they'd like before ordering the missing parts. I hope to use these guys in a real MOC soon! In the meantime, feel free to build your own Dragoons . They're obviously mounted, but I didn't add a horse in the photo or sketch. I have more stuff and background in mind for these guys. I wanted to post them on my flickr and add them next to the Légionnaires, but I forgot my password . Stay tuned for (hopefully) more from my side. I hope I can finish my (small, non-military) MOC maybe next week or so.
