Heroica RPG - Quest #159: An Unexpected Return - Hovels
Khorne replied to Waterbrick Down's topic in The Heroica Archive
"The Hanging Gardens are the only place botanical I can think of. Those and the Triad Park, but the Triad park's is more southward instead of northwestward", Eric shrugged. "If we can't find the source of the flowers there, maybe someone there can point us to a wood magic user capable of sustaining flowers in such way? I say we go to the Hanging Gardens." -

D'aww shoot! Well, I could only try, right? Eric raised an eyebrow. It had been a while since the Nord had last been on a Quest, let alone be with other heroes. Combined with the fact that most of the party were "newcomers" he had never met before, he needed to get used to everything again. Especially the thinking patterns of people he didn't really know. "Crescent Hill? What do you hope to find there? Except this Orcish assassin you claim to know?" Eric took off his Heavy Armor in preparation of what was to come. "Wouldn't it be better if we checked out Fort Bonaparte and see this Council of Peace and Prosperity? For all we know, they summoned the demon to get rid of us." -

"Yep, I've seen enough hugs for the day." "So you don't remember anything? At all?", Eric asked, curious to know what exactly had transpired. Eric looks around to see if there is anything possibly pointing the heroes in the direction the demon had fled. OOC: Question: WBD, would Eric's Boots of Evasion count as a QM Approved Modifier? Since they make him more fleet of foot . -

Eric clicked his tongue. "Okay, then." He had been away from Heroica too long and his knowledge concerning these things had gotten severely limited. "So it's back to Eubric, then? Well, at least I got to see this picturesque corner of Dastan. It has been eye-opening." Eric nodded in agreement. "Nothing more here. I can help you carry him if needed." -

Eric jolted upright from his slumbed position standing right next to a tree. Immediately, his hand went straight for Conspirator's handle, ready for anything. "Someone wake him up already!" "Damn magic and its foul trickery", the Nord muttered to himself. Eric raised an eyebrow. "I can't remember clearly, but didn't we destroy the Pandemonicon when taking down the tower in Babeleth? Or didn't Byblos take the book with him to Hel? How much copies of this blasted tome are there?" -

While the magic users do their thing, Eric keeps an eye out for potential trouble and looks around if there was anything else of interest in the clearing. -

"My dealings with the Eatress turned out to be rather profitable for myself. I can't vouch for the others involved, however. Then again, we all make our own choices, they knew what they were getting into." The Nord continued: "Dubious causes is such a relative notion. Truth is in the eye of the beholder," he smirked, "I always got what I wanted in the end." Eric was caught off-guard and very surprised by the sudden. The Nord coughed and dusted himself off. "Ahem, glad you're enthousiastic about the bar", he awkwardly responded to the situation. "Nords are always welcome." The Vindicator raised an eyebrow in surprise. "An egg? And something crawled out of it? Sounds like something...alien to me. Magic and the arcane isn't really my forte, though. I'm more of the direct and brutal hand-to-hand action." "A what now?" -

Eric grinned widely. "From up north you say? Same here. I, too, once lived in the far north. The land of Vikings is from where I hail: the frozen continent of Värtland. There was once another one of us in the Hall. A Hero named Haldor. Other than him, I've yet to meet another Nord. What tribe or clan do you call your own?" The Nord didn't expand much upon his own history in Värtland and chose to answer the second part of Torald's question. "The way I see it, I'm kind of stuck in Eubric, so I just try to make the best of it. Heroica has been low on my list of priorities as of late. I mostly spend my time managing my bar over at the Eubric Waterfront. You should drop by sometime. It's a home away from home for us Northerners. The Mead is good and...", he paused and tapped his nose, "...there are many extra carnal delights to be enjoyed." "You raise a fair point, Petaldan. The Fey One is most likely with the other Veterans. However, from what I gathered or heard, she always was a peculiar one, so maybe she chose not to join in on the plans of the other Veterans." Eric chuckled. "Well, well, well, if it isnt' Elphaba. It's sure been a while since our paths last crossed in Babeleth." The Nord scanned the surroundings and raised his shoulders. "This mess? We don't have anything to do with that. I'm far from a tree hugger, but I'm definitely not a proponent of fairy genocide, either." -

Eric looked around and took in as much as possible from the dark forest. In the background he heard Germ talk. "The Fay One, eh? You think the Oracle might've come here looking for the Fay One? If I recall my limited Heroica history, the Fay One was a Veteran as well, no?" The Nord followed the trails, with the rest of the party. He walked up to Torald. "I haven't seen you around the Hall. Then again, I haven't really spent a lot of time there lately, so I barely recognize any of you guys. Where are you from? You don't look like a Eubric or Uland native" -

OOC: Sorry for being inactive. I caught a serious case of the flu, which kind of knocked me out. I’m better now though and I’ll be more active again from now on -

"Ooooh, a dark and brooding forest. How quaint!" Eric marched closer to the portal, but before entering, he turned to Ezeran and Petaldan. "If you do plan on making a short stop at the Marketplace first, be sure to buy as much as you can. We're probably going to need it. Maybe we can split costs later. Or not, whatever really." Placing his index and ring finger at his temple, Eric saluted the two remaining heroes with a swiping theatrical gesture. "Hejdå barn!", the Nord bade farewell with a familiar cheeky smile and stepped through the portal. -

Nice little build! I especially like the grenadiers and the use of the broken pieces for the roof. It gives it a unique texture. -

"Well, that's too bad," Eric muttered as he peered down the hole. "This stuff is all kinds of crazy. Why would some dark plant druid be interested in this place?" He stepped over to the rug and lifted it up with Conspirator to see if there was anything behind it. -

"I'd be a shame of you to go out like this, Lawrence", Eric grinned, "Here lies Lawrence Boomingham, Veteran of the Orcish Wars, killed by spores." Eric uses a Remedy on Boomingham. "Shrooms and whores, well, that would be a good death. But spores? Naah, not this time." -

"By Njordon, God-King-Beneath-the-Seas, I swear you shall forfeit this life in misery and pain, fungal scum!", Eric roared with a a divine fury as he sliced away at the enemy. Having temporarily taken out one Fungal Fighter, the Nord refocused his efforts on its buddy. Eric swears an Oath of Retribution against Fungal Fighter A and then attacks said Fungal Fighter A from the front row, using Conspirator. First time actually playing as a Vindicator and using an Oath. This is how it works, right? -

"This stinks", Eric remarked as he drew his blade to fight the fungus. Eric attacks Dark Druid first, then Fungal Fighter B. Both from the Front Row, with Conspirator. I also have Zweihander Grip, WBD, should that be added to the list of Eric's effects? Also, the Fungal Fighters' special says something about a Myconid Guard, but what is that? -

"Fate, I should've known," Eric thought to himself as Boomingham solved the riddle. When he stepped inside, Eric immediately covered up his nose and mouth with a piece of cloth. The sheer stench of the spores made his stomach turn wildly. "This doesn't look good...", the Nord stated as he looked around him and then peered into the giant hole, trying to estimate its depth. "You guys think this is some kind of demonic force we're dealing with or just a freakish feat of nature?" Eric unpopped a Mead and drank it. The bad smell made it taste bad, but the drink brought him the strength he sought. -

"Death is more of a destination, not a journey. It does carry you anywhere, it's where you stop", Eric stated. The Nord scratched his head as he pondered the riddle. It had been a while since he last tried to solve a riddle. Back in the old days, when he was still living in the North, he was quite good at them and rather enjoyed a little mystery from time to time. Now however, his skills had gotten quite rusty through negligence and the riddle gave him a hard time. -

"Enemies of the city, eh...", Eric muttered, taking the flyer from Bommingham. His trademark wolfish grin surfaced one more. "Heh, tell me something I don't know." He paused, crumbled the leaflet and tossed it away. "Peace and prosperity be damned, my brother." His hands placed in his sides, Eric stood in front of the Temple, faintly whistling. He scanned the place looking for a way in. Looking around, he let his foot slide over the cobblestones, hoping to find one that was loose enough. If Ezeran's plan failed, perhaps they could throw in a window. After all, the party were already enemies of the city, what could possibly be worse? "Have you tried knocking?" Eric equips Conspirator. -

Eric grabbed his gear and made ready to leave. Strapping on his swords, he walked outside oblivious to the situation. Only when he heard the flapping of giant leathery wings, the danger of the situation occurred to him. Quickly he jolted back inside and motioned Boomingham. "Let's go, Lawrence! Let's not sit around this place any longer. I don't care where it is we're going, just not here!" -

Eric feigned a looked of disbelief and chuckled. "Why not both? Lady, that's just not how I operate. I don't trust the Fox nor do I trust Ulric, so I honestly couldn't care less about their situation. I'm all about preserving my own skin. The Town Guard tried to impose their will upon us free citizens, so I stuck it to them." The Nord looked at Natnail's sword in his hand and raised an eyebrow. "Or I would've stuck it to them if it weren't for this lousy blade. Anyways, taking care of the Guard just happened to coincide with "defending" the Orc and the Copper Fox. Doesn't mean I was sticking up for them. I was sticking up for myself." He looked around the bar. "Can I still get a drink here, or...?" -

"It was more about sticking it to the law than sticking up for you, Fox", Eric grunted as he was softly pushing over some of the bodies on the floor to look for more loot. The Nord smiled as his old acquaintance drew closer. "I'm actually curious to know what is going in the Bonaparte Fortress, excuse me: 'Fort Freedom'." Eric could barely subdue his laughter at the name and was sure to make air quotes to further undermine the fortress' name while saying it. "That's where things are being orchestrated, right?" "I don't really care much about Ulric and his politics. At least not anymore. I've had my stint with the Gang. I could tag along to the Oracle and see if we can get anything out of here." Eric turned around and made sure to pat small Petaldan on the head. "Thanks for your assistance in the battle. Many kids would lose their cool in situations such as that. I appreciate it." -

"This blade must be off balance..." The Nord eyed the Paladin Infantry once more, hoping to actually damage them this time. Noticing the small Petaldan offering him a Grand Potion, Eric responded in a surprised manner. He didn't expect a kid in Heroica's service. However, one couldn't start young enough to learn the skills of a proper warrior? Eric attacks Paladin Infantry B from the front row. @The Legonater: Wouldn't it be better if Eric and Petaldan switched positions in the BO? So Eric is healed first in case of possible future damage done to him by the Paladins?
