Yes.... uh, why it used minidolls again here?
-
I know, just wonder if the colors could be more obvious, though not as obvious as the macaw. The lion cub could have better released first because it's not the more appealing one to me. The panther cub from 41036 looks like a different mold. Sorry, are you guys talking about series 5 or 4? Series 1 and 2 were one month earlier during 2013, and here are three series every year. October seems abit late for series 6.

Sounds like this. Not sure it is a bad thing since I'm no fan of the new movies. It was suggested before, and I think TLC wouldn't be willing to make the third exclusive headpiece for Wyldstyle unless here hairstyle would be regarded as generic in the future. I didn't quite remember the sausage guy since he didn't have recognizable looks, but I don't mind to see him again in future City construction sets. And it does prove that having a personality doesn't mean consumers want you to be physical, which is more important in Lego World.

Future The LEGO Movie Sets - Wishlist
Dorayaki replied to Sir Brickalot's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I'd like to see a new torso print for him, uh, though it's still unknown where his body had gone.... -
It is an issue sometimes, and sometimes not. After all the plate is additional to the general product while boxes are still necessary. Making buildable boxes doesn't affect the integrity of product. Maybe instuctions can tell both how to build things with boxes, and without boxes. A big thank for your information. These products look closer to what the topic was about, though still there isn't enough visual information for how to utilize these boxes.

As the CMF series expands, we've seen many different kinds of CMF characters with distinctive cultural backgrounds, from Rome, from Sparta, from England.... But when back to the regular themes, the Lego Castle is still majorly based on stereotypical medieval castles and army. We know there have been some subthemes such as Ninja and Vikings, and some other action themes like Adventurers and Ninjago are also much culturalized. The Fanstasy Era, even though obviously not what happened in human history, still provided some distinctive designs of imaginary cultures. But since 2010 such kind of things never appear again. Maybe TLC think the major targeted consumers are still more interested in medieval themes? I personally think the medieval themes can return biennially, while a subtheme can fill the vacancy, though it's more like that TLC has been put less focus on historical themes in general.

If there is an obvious conflcit that TLC can make sure that they can't do it, yes, there isn't "maybe later" like those unconfimred projects. However, the issue here is the reason of rejection they gave, which could be not clear enough, or just unreasonable. If there are both a clear answer and a guideline of license/themes, it wouldn't have been much troublesome.

Well in my local retailers and ToyRUs, products are majorly classified by brands and types before targeted consumers, so I don't have that experience. Maybe I can imagine you're a big guy and fear of being charged with abduction. Simply judging from the toys, I don't think you must be ashamed of choosing Lego products in front of people. Guys having interests in really girly toys like Barbie is another story, though I don't think that's a shame too. Sometimes I do wonder if TLC themselves have thoughts about this, like the Friends and TLM conflict example. But for Disney "princess's" they haven't been put together with other Disney themes since many of them were discontinued in different periods (it would be much like Infinity ). For now the princess's characters obviously target at girls, but I don't hope that the toys just totally target at girls. In a toy store I'd like to see them put somewhere visible and neutral

Friends minidolls into minifigs?
Dorayaki replied to Civic Bossman's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
Just tried LDD (I'm still rookie in this), but it turns out---- .... Failed. Stephanie hairpiece can't be put on heads, for unknown reason. The current version hasn't added Joanna's hairpiece. -
It's still a smalll progress for Cuusoo. Not saying that all licenses can be clrealy explained, but it does help the project creators alittle bit. Remember that we still don't know if any clear relationship between LR and the MWT project exist, for the reason stated in the OP. In such kind of saying. the major problem is that the conflict between original products and licenses (only benefical reasons, not the actual product design conflicts) would never be clear because there are lots of examples TLC keep making both at the same time, like SW with Space. If TLC make no announcement, regardless of whether it's reasonable or not, they won't have legal reasons to turn it doun again. I think this kind of announcement can be changed with time. Suppose that there is going to be another TV show license which is rival to Doctor Who so TLC can't make any Doctor Who product, they can announce it again. TLC can also say which project/license have made conflicts and how long this conflict would be. They can also forbid creators to submit certain licenses or generic themes if they want to do so, no matter if these make sense or not.

Not surprising to know there's a recolor for other cubs (for Chima, uh......), but this lion cub doesn't have an obvious recolor. I thought a panda cub would reuse the bear one. Or it's same like the cats who have two poses.

Not sure what can embarass you. You're just buying Lego unless you'd feel embarrassed for buying any brick toys. That's why it's good to see Lego making Disney licenses.
-
Uhmm... not sure if the current Junior design or normal flat covers would save much more money than playable packages. If they do, it does possibly affect the prices. . Maybe for cost of production or for lack of necessity after some market research? I personally think it's economic to have generic plates seperately sold, but I'd like to see more kinds or seperate plates.

Wow. The fake Lego Movie mark makes me dizzy. Suppose that it's MegaBloks doing this, it would be a legal way for all of us. Still, this obvious excuse doesn't work for all characters except GL above. I don't think the fake brands are really devoting themselves to fulfill AFOLs' dream like the customizers do. They just want to make illegal money from innocent Chinese children and harm TLC's profits. Realistically, they wouldn't just make Supergirl instead of Superman because the latter can make more money.

Thanx for information. It's not too surprising to know the brick covers have appeared since along time ago. This kind of box looks like a tall building. Thanx for info again. The plate for City buildings was okay, though the buildings weren't polished enough. Yes, that's what I said, maybe using normal bricks to package would be more vulnerable than normal plastics. But at the same time I wonder if the current Junior covers of containers are less vulnerable than covers with plates?

REVIEW: 71004 LEGO Minifigures – The LEGO Movie Series
Dorayaki replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Adding ladies is a good improvement, but still it depends on the general selection of characters. After watching the whole movie, the most bothering character to me seems to be Queen Marsha. She's not representing the Pirate, and there have been mermaids in CMF line. Though it's not bad to have a queen of ocean, she's more like from a regular CMF series but not a movie character, same fore Panda Suit Guy. I thought Queen Marsha could have more things to do when the protagonists fell into the sea. Lincoln and Shakespear are also "fake building masters", though it's not too obvious because they're based on historical personalities, which make them more like "veterans". Among the main characters, Wyldstyle looks most "exclusive" to this series. The Bad Cop was made to have an exclusive scribble face print, it's qualified though alittle deliberate. HHEmmet's helmet is used in the Benny's Spaceship with different prints, while Mr. Business's only difference is the expression.- 131 replies

LEGO Minifigures series 12 will not be available until Oct 2014
Dorayaki replied to JeagerEX's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Not surprising, judging from the Toy Fair pics, but still alittle dissapointing. Just hope that Series 13 can come at the end of this year. Oh, my eyes must have problem. Well, if there's a whole selection of regular sets, I guess I don't want a CMF Simpson series too. Unfortunately things often go crisscross. IMO, the merit of licensed CMFs is able to make up for the lack of characters from regular sets. Simpsons isn't really a good example like you said, a CMF series with only one regular set doesn't sound very promising so far. We have to consider that some kids may have been bored by regular series, some excitements are okay. But making two special series in a row is indeed abit overkill. -
Future The LEGO Movie Sets - Wishlist
Dorayaki replied to Sir Brickalot's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I've always wished to see the Undercover protagonists participate in physical Lego City sets, and I believe it does work. But for the TLM, the story locates in Bricksburg (I didn't notice at first), so Emmet and his neighbors might just stay there and won't move to Lego City or Heartlake City. With the lack of backstory, it's kind difficult to randomly put characters in other themes. It's not what TLC would like to do, and it's unfair to other characters from discontinued themes. The exceptions might be Western Town where the protagonists actually visited, and as you said, Benny and Metalbeard can "return" to their origins. For the continuation of TLM, since it's already given a "movie" title, we shouldn't be surprised that it's like many other licenses which are only apt to certain non-series movies, unless it can be as strong as Star Wars. Since a sequel is announced, I do think we can have some special sets between these years, but they won't be too many and maybe only target at AFOLs. Another chance is that if we consider that all Lego movies have connections, Emmet and friends can also have some participation in the Ninjago movie. -
Not sure this saying is correct or not. Well, as mentioned before, the Cinderella castle obviously doesn't have the scale as same as many other licesed sets or original Lego Castle or Monster Fighter. If the set designs are over-simplified just because it's a theme based on animation stories. it would lack of potential for a wider market. And the current problem is the theme doesn't expand as much as other themes do for now (no new sets confirmed this summer so far). As what TLC usually do with other licenses, they can simply provide small sets for kids (Junior Disney? ) and large sets for adults at the same time. For minidolls/minifigures issue, we can all figure out why TLC decide so, but the current question is how far can minidolls go when there are lots of very different licensed characters with different body shapes. In theory, making licensed minidolls would be more difficult than licensed minifigures.

Over the past years, TLG rarely make newly molded plates for one individual set (the last one seems to be Scorpion Pyramid). They only leave bricks for kids to build and play solely, and we may additionally buy the basic plates: asphalt roads, green grassland or blue sea. At the same time, there is something "large and plastic" that TLC keep producing for years until today--- buckets, which are mostly used in starter sets and the current theme "Junior". Decade ago, I can remember that most other brick buckets of other brands have studs on their cover, which can be the base for child to build things on. I'm curious about why modern Lego boxes are seldom used in multiple ways, especially being the plates. They buckets are simply toy boxes, which means you can only use it to store toys. Even if there are plates included sometimes, the plates still have nothing to do with the bucket itself. Here are some similar Lego toys that have plates with product design, as I can remember. If there is something missing, please inform me here. My First Lego Set: The predecessor of curret Junior series. The bottom boxes are made of cardboard, only the cover is made of plastic brick plate. The example pics also show how can we play with the covers. Even though Junior has no brick-related container designs, surprisingly the starter covers were made in 2013. Racers miniturbo and fold-out series: the road plate is folded in the box. Consumers can open the plate and then fold it back to a cube. I wonder if they can be used in minifigure-scale City layouts, though I don't have such information. Thomas at Morgan's Mine: the bricks and Thomas the train are inside the mine, which is simply the whole product with a paper coat. Speaking of Thomas, there is a not-so-glad-to-hear competitor, MegaBloks, who now owns many Thomas sets using such kind of product design: Bridge&Train: the products simple make the trains under a cube bridge. The bridge can be used in different ways. Bucketes with Trails: the trails are molded on the boxes. Not only you can build things on the boxes, but you can make a train route in different heights and layouts. There could be some reasons why TLC isn't active in such kind of design. Practically, maybe general buckets use plastic that are harder than normal Lego bricks, so TLC can't massively producs such kind of brick covers. Or theoritically, the designers might think that using the buckets as plates or part of big buildings would be inappropriate for children to learn how to play bricks. But in economic aspects, I don't think having a playable boxing/package is a bad thing. What do you guys think?

The position and future of Friends and minidolls in Lego?
Dorayaki replied to Dorayaki's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Okay, I admit that saying was alittle aggresive. The point is we should consider Friends as a style that is different from City, but doesn't mean it has to stick to certain consumers. Not to discuss fake brands, yes, it can be another topic: can we encourage children to play toys from different figures (Friends+Bionicle), different brands (Lego+MegaBloks), or even totally different kinds of toys like the situation Toy Story showed? Perhaps TLC have wanted to compete with Barbie wtth their Scala dolls at first. Then following the time line, from Belville to Friends, now they'd like to focus on own properties. The controversy of Friends' position in Lego's line is its similarity with other existed System themes. It's not like its predecessor (Scala and Belville), which are more like dollhouse scenario, or Bionicle which use Technic as their major materials, regardless of that they all have different scales. Friends has the natural advantage to be combined and customized with any System set. But still, this fact is very hightlighted by TLC, which seems like waste and dismay to how much progress and effort the designers made. -
I hope this set can have some functions that can make it more like an enclosed interior but can also be seperate. For example, the runway can be combined with the buildings as an aisle, and adding a fabric roof between two face-to-face buildings. I think there are many ways to make it more like an open mall but not another Grand Emporium.
-
I disagree with that since there are many story ideas not applied, and many themes unused, which is really disspaointing to certain fans. It just depends on how the plot writers devote. Also, if the future movies are independent enough, I don't think they'll ruin the whole plot of the first movie. Depends. As mentioned, maybe the movie would try to target at those who never watch Ninjago TV series but just some moviegoers who watched the TLM, so maybe the movie would focus on an original character or add some flashbacks in order to help the audience. Or maybe the movie would just be an independent canon so we don't have to watch the TV prequels (not sure if it works). I don't know if the non-WB-related themes can't appear in TLM, but I guess the reason is a differenct conflict--- Marvel and DC already have their own crossover comic and game series. Since it's considered a special case, we can't directly realize it in the Lego world by the name of TLM. It needs the permission from both the two companies.
