  1. Litereally it should be Ted's basement. I always wonder what's his career and how much he spent on the whole thing.
  2. Okay, I'm just keep moaning if you're not disturbed , though your last statement is fairly pertinent. Much like fallentomato said, it's not just a matter of "conjoined Lego universe" that FOLs (mostly adults) wish to see in this movie, but more important, a proof of achievement to the targeted market. I believe two years is enough time for most audience who have actually window-shopped in any toy store to become accustomed to its presence, which prevents them from being disturbed by "visual styles". If the minority of them haven't, advertising Lego products is also an important goal for TLM.Now half audience could be the targeted girls or their parents. No matter whether TLC is trying to market the products or TLM movie tickets to them, now at least one of the two has obviously failed. As you say, a sequel can pull it out better, but only time can tell.
  3. Wrong Big Ben Wrong Rose Wrong Lakers Mouth is the gate of misfortune. Toy's Commercial Story It must be done. Wrong Dutchman
  4. Natalia Kowalski, a miserable former-reporter, suffered severe injuries durring a terrorist attack made by Rex Fury and she lost most of her body parts. She was soon transferred to Makuhero City and accepted the most advanced biomedical reconstructive surgery. Now she is known as the superheroine Natalia Breez, who devotes to punching into those ugly faces with her metal fists everyday. My instant thought after watching TLM. In another dictionary, only one theme has the master builders. Time to fill stones.
  5. The debatable point of exclusive characters is their chances of future appearances in regular sets. Since Superheroes is expected to be a powerful longterm deal, expectations for them aren't surprising. It's either that they'd return in different prints, or in the worst case, they won't. In the view of figure designs, if they weren't exclusive versions of existed characters, they'd better be smart enough to come up with those characters who are popular enough but cannot have own regular sets.
  6. So the movie version Karai uses a painted Irina Spalko hairpiece, the small cartoon set uses an original one? The olive van looks pretty nice. Personally I'm not very interested in the movie sets, and it would be a bad thing for TLC if many moviegoers or TMNT fans feel the same with me. Despite the popularity of TMNT franchise, maybe the cartoon version is more appealing to targeted KFOLs. Still, as an AFOL I'd see TLC pay more attention to other current licenses with fewer sets.
  7. Some others reminded me of this, and it might be more direct to wonder why TLG don't design sets based on the idea of Clutch Powers. Ultra Agents is a different canon from previous Agents, while Clutch Powers is also a different type of "agents". Not sure if TLG is going to do some storybranding for Ultra series, I'm inclined to see more from Team Clutch.
  8. Wow, all of them look awesome! Really hope the next future official wave comes with them.
  9. It depends, I personally prefer to see more holiday-ish elements since it is a seasonal product. As result it’s more like a supplemental pack for Winter Village series rather than City series. I pretty agree that the price makes it much far from a normal supplement pack, despite its beautiful box designs. I might wish to see some decoration parts that can be used for the City buildings (police/fire station) in order to create a City in Xmas. But Advent Calendars are mostly designed to play solely rather than being part of the Lego City.
  10. Personally I'd hope that at least each film series could have a couple of sets. I know TLC isn't able to take the whole piece into consideration, but it's sad to see a film series coming with no set at all (as I can remember, Thor is). My suggestion is that the first movie can come with a major wave and the second only comes with one or two sets (featuring exclusive scenes and new characters). Ultimate Spiderman seems like a compensation for Amazing movies, but it's been one of the biggest subtheme so far. I didn't really expect to see a cartoon Avenger set (even though it's cool) and maybe would rather see TLC focus on only one version and other film series. Same for the upcoming TNMT movie version.
  11. Well, that's the issue of "equality for physical and non-physical" in Lego history. In a different view, half of the TLM cast (including background characters) are newly created for this movie, these are CMF minifigures, normal citizens and the main characters, so the appearance of Team Clutch wouldn't have been too abrupt. It's just whether common audience can recognize them (maybe yes, maybe not) and whether they can have useful impacts on this story. I have to admit that Team Emmet is more iconic, interesting and appealing to the general market (and me) as the representive of official Lego crossover. But If CP and TLM can coexist, I think it can be interesting to see Team Clutch versus Team Emmet (mature vs messy). Honestly CP is kinda like an agent theme (since Jack Fury looks like CP ). Maybe CP could have been a subtheme of Agents instead of Ultra Agents?. I didn't have too much time to read the full script, briefly here's what I think:
  12. Very glad to see your reply. Well, I don't really think they did put any minidoll (according to what I saw in the theater) because they would be able to make it more obvious than just giving them a small cameo appearance. I wouldn't say it must be a dishonor to Friends since it's not the only current theme to be neglected this time, it's more like that "the plot writers and TLC don't want to talk about this time". But still Friends has been controversial due to its initial purpose. I believe that TLC should be more sensitive to it, which means "neglection" is not allowed. The minidoll CGI movement is a conservative answer, I agree. As discussed before the Friends cartoon episodes directly skip the physical problems with using real human. The recent video game version provided us minidoll movesets, but then again, the minifigures in TLM can't bend their legos like those minifigure video games do. Generally, the CGI team created Unikitty and the non-minifig cast is there, so I believe that they're capable of making minidolls move.
  13. Thanx! I really hope it can be officially considered. Once and for all.
  14. As I mentioned in previous reply, the story was meant to focus on an innocent rookie and his master builder companions with big personalities, so CP characters wouldn't have any impact on the main story. The involvement of CP might only be a respect to existed stories. If there is any doubt, it would be whether the writers had ever decided to include CP, or they never really mind this non-physical theme story, That's pretty true. CP didn't actually include too many original concepts excepts the original protegonists, but just reintroduces some existed themes. TLM did consider how to relate the movie content to physical products (CMF series, convertible vehicles). Though not well-arranged, but this movie does know how to keep its own style with original scenes. Regarding to this topic, I think CP might have its own chance to extend its own world if the writers have interesets. Unfortunately LEGO Organization to TLC isn't what S.H.I.E.L.D to Marvle franchise at all. Now I assume TLC is more willing to extend the TLM canon rather than take a look back on CP. Sorry, wrong hairpiece (which should be Jack Fury's), the problem should be his teammates.
  15. Not having any set is just my own complaint. I wonder whether CP was taken into the initial concept of the TLM story and then the plot writers decided not to make the two connected. Or perhaprs CP was actually a touchstone for TLM? Physically the TLM movie products were released before its premiere. I think popularity isn't the key, but TLC already presume that a theatrical film make more benefitial success than a direct-to-DVD video so they would like to make that tie. Well, maybe having CP characters in TLM could make them physical though I didn't expect that at all. Back to the canon topic, if they exist in the same world, judging by the concept of story, the main characters from CP would be definitely regarded as master builders, which sounds pretty ironic.
  16. Correct: obtain the very first mouse cartoon minifigure in LEGO form. Oh, I really hope that there could be a Disney CMF series. Well that's what licenses are for. But sole licensed CMF series with no medium set together doesn't allow us to recreate the major scenario from this TV show, unlike Lego Spongebob. Hope that TLC have regular sets in their future plan. The second point should only be why TLC has to release two special series in a row.
  17. Among the licenses. I think Disney franchise would be the most capable one to provide lots of different cultural references because many of their stories are based on a specific culture (Mulan from China, for example). But the recent Cinderella's castle doesn't look very inspiring to historical lovers for lack of size
  18. Uh...... since gender ratio is a big problem to this series (while the previous series usually make ladies the rare ones), I don't think it's really worth celebrating . Well let's hope CMF series 12 would be like this. Thanx for a very complete review again. But even though this topic is posted in licensed subforum, I wonder if WhiteFang would keep using the Simpsons characters in future review photos of regular series since you've made many comparisons between Simpsons and the others?
  19. To be realistic, as said there are two issues to be solved. One is the possible chances for more licenses of CMF, the other is the annual production schedule of CMF series. Before those, I don't think a second series makes sense, same for another TLM series (not talking about its sequel movie). The common way how we get characters should be getting regular sets.
  20. IMO actaully Clutch Powers' story looks like the prototype of TLM, despite the different characters and plot. Both tell canons that combine all existed Lego themes, and the protagonists are trying to save the day for any district(theme) of the world. Well, these are still speculations. I'm personally unhappy with the fact that TLC didn't try to extend the storyline of CP or give those characters physical appearances like TLM do now. Did TLC already have ideas for TLM when they made CP story?
  21. Compared with City or other minifigure themes, the scenario of Friends doesn't really need aremy builders to "populate" Heartlake City. It more focuses on relationships between certain characters in one set. Well, sometimes I think the lack of minidolls per set does have impact on the lack of diversity of characters, because most of the sets have to include one of the five leading heroines and leave little room for the others. There are still different torso prints and minifigure hairpieces for customizers, but face prints are another problem for them.Pretty much agree that it really matters in licensed themes. Fans always expect to see more characters from the given story. I've never seen a castle set from Castle theme comes with only two minifigures (queen and king??)
  22. I'd really like to see the KOTOR main characters being in official Lego sets. It was one of the PC RPG games I truly enjoyed, much to LucasArts' dismay.
  23. > a mystery-solving subtheme like the Nancy Drew or Hardy Boys books I would say that even though the girls can play a detective role, it needs a well-portrayed backstory to market and tell how all these things began ---- which means animated stories. Well, Friends only has one special episode last year like Hero Factory did. Hope that the Jungle series would also come with animated episodes. It's a little shame that the five leading heroines have much different personalities but they don't have many opportunities to show their talents (oh, for the very big example, TLM .) > You might even be able to incorporate some "bad guy" characters into this sort of subtheme, though it's not completely essential. It's interesting to have such kind of characters, though maybe Friends doesn't introduce such kind of scenario. If it could, the Jungle rescue series can also introduce some poachers who ask Olivia to hand over her polybag cubs. > A mountain expedition subtheme for Friends would allow for all sorts of awesome subject matter. Still depends on how much this subtheme can interest the targeted consumers. I guess ski resort can be very popular among all FOLs. > There are two main categories that would need their own themes and could not really fit into the modern-day world of LEGO Friends: sci-fi and fantasy. I always think these ideas could had been used in the traditional minifigure themes TLC ever had. For example, Castle themes seldom focus on magic or princesses even though they do introduce minifigures based on such roles. The witches/wizards are mostly additional to the military forces, and the princess's are simply damsels in distress. The late period of Belville heavily focused on princess's and fairy tales, but unfortunately it wasn't a success. Well the current action themes are sort of the SF things, but both Chima and Nnjago heavily stress on male characters and their products don't target at girls, despite that there are female fans of these TV shows. I think Agent is one of the themes that can interest both girls and boys, maybe with some different scales of sets or adding minidolls version. > "My Little Pony Equestria Girls", "Monster High", and "Ever After High". Skipping the license problem, brick toys could have been a powerful addition to MLP, but it seems like that Hasbro has no interest to in bringing MLP to their own KRE-O line. Mattel just bought MB so we can wait and see how do they utilize this strength, but I guess they would just focus on Barbie series. > The last shoujo cartoon I've seen on a standard American cable network during a timeslot aimed at kids was probably Hamtaro, and before that, Cardcaptor Sakura. Sailor Moon was fairly popular in my early childhood (at least relative to other anime series). Well Well currently the most popular girls-oriented longterm franchise in Japan is the Pretty Cure series (created by Toei, who made Sailor Moon series and now is the creator of PowerRanger/SuperSentai series). But Pretty Cure isn't an international broadcasting show, compared with Power Ranger which has American adaption and localized toy franchise (uh.... MegaBloks). Unfortunately as far as we know, there are very few popular girls-oriented TV shows or movies that have big impacts on the worldwide audience. > Nerf have capitalized on this with their new "Nerf Rebelle" How should Nerf Rebelle work: Well compared with Lego's issues, I think Nerf Rebelle doesn't have problems in encouraging girls to join the fights.
  24. An interesting set, but for unknown reason it doesn't appear in the fairs or catalogues. The only thing that bothers me is these trees need lareger leaves or brances becasue it looks like that the characters chopped the trees in order to build a lab . We've know that TLG seldom design realistic trees. Well it's not a small set but only one figure isn't enough to me.
