Discussion: LEGO Bionicle Makuta Contest
DraikNova replied to Toa Palpo's topic in LEGO Action Figures
13+ years old is generally a legal requirement. Basically, many countries don't consider someone to have full creative rights or something like that until you're over 13 years of age. -
Very nice! I like the addition of blue. That makes it a lot more vibrant and less boring than most of the other entries, which seem to be either black with an accent (such as mine) or a confusing mess of colors. It's quite frankly one of the few G1-style MOCs that I really like, so kudos.

Yes, but they apparently will only be judging one of them, so you'll have to choose which one you think they'll like more. -
Huh, I felt G2 was more stifling to work with MOC-wise than Hero Factory, since HF had a wide-open universe with the existence of many other hero teams established. I mean, compare the settings, a small island vs. a galaxy that presumably contains about 100 billion stars with several times that many planets, moons and other locations, assuming it's an average galaxy. On the positive side, G2 was rife with good recolors for making HF MOCs.

Interesting to see the branching path Clay's Rumble Blade took.

Problems/Improvements to Bionicle G2
DraikNova replied to MakutaDreadscythe's topic in LEGO Action Figures
A pretty good summary. I mean, just think what could have happened if they kept the 2015 Toa (with the possible exception of Onua) all in the 15 euro budget range or decided to go with the half-and-half villains/heroes strategy Hero Factory and Bionicle had been using previously. If they had implemented a few of these changes, they could have possibly kept enough budget to allow for one of the Skull Villains to be a larger, $35 or so set (not counting Skull Grinder vs. Ekimu here, since that's a $17.5 villain against a $12.5 hero set). Some of the villains could have really used such a budget increase (Looking at you, Skull Scorpio), and besides, larger sets tend to be in the christmas gift range and the sort of thing that legitimately causes excitement in small kids, larger kids and LEGO-obsessed adults. They're what generate hype in the target market. -
I was pointing out that we were never promised a thing. All we were told was that Bionicle was returning, and all we knew about sets 2 years ago was that the toa would be returning as well.

Discussion: LEGO Bionicle Makuta Contest

So far, my entry is coming along nicely. The high collar is looking pretty great already, even without a head on the MOC. And I think this is probably the tallest bipedal constraction creation I've made since the Quatros Forest Titan. And this one's got a coherent color scheme. A lot has changed in the four years since I made that. Hero Factory ending, Bionicle G2 starting and ending... Anyway, I look forward to seeing other people's presumably much more interesting entries to this contest. EDIT: So far, his torso is mostly done. Here's hoping Breann doesn't enter again, but if she does, my entry is already taller than her winning entry in the 2015 contest, and that's without the insectile foot design I'm testing in LDD. So I figure I've got the tall and imposing angle pretty well covered. -
I wouldn't be suprised. LEGO was developing Nexo Knights 8 years before it came out (if I remember correctly) and Ninjago 3 years before it came out. Even if Bionicle had gotten its three years, they've probably been developing the theme that was intended to replace it for a while. As I see it, there are three options: 1: They rush the new theme's development and release it in the summer of 2017. 2: They release it in 2018. 3: They cancelled it due to Bionicle's bad sales. As for system-based constraction, that's pretty much what Mixels is. Which lost most of its media and might not be around too long either. Personally, I think LEGO's going more for integrating action figure type builds into other themes, like with Nexo Knights' Sparkss and Burnzie.

Yeah, I want to echo this. I may not have liked all of the sets, but a lot of them were surprisingly great, and overall, I really enjoyed it!

That's kind of what I felt HF was like, to be honest. A full, wide-spanning world, but only those things important to the series' plot filled in, giving lots of room for fan characters/settings/creatures/cultures/whatever. Also, this is clearly all moot. The next constraction theme will obviously be Galidor G2. Which, to be honest, could probably work if done right.

Custom Part - Hexagonal Brick
DraikNova replied to Ragnar's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Cool! Are you planning to put this on Shapeways or some other 3d-printing site? If you do, I might end up using it to finish a concept for a Rock Raiders boardgame I came up with once. Little pieces like this would be perfect for modular adventure-type boards, since they're easier to break off at the end of the gameboard you're not using and reattach at the other end than conventional LEGO board pieces. Also, it might be useful to adapt the dimensions in such a way that a 4x4 round piece can fit on top, for maximum usability. A larger variant (with 4-studs or antistuds on each side) could also be nice. Off-topic, but it might be better to put your project in your signature. -
Lego Nexo Knights TV Series Discussion
DraikNova replied to DuckBricks's topic in LEGO Media and Gaming
What I really like about Ava is the fact that whenever technobabble happens, it has some basis in real life jargon. It's minimal, but it's still miles ahead of most other sci-fi based series. Plus, that little "Great, now I'm making puns too. I've got to get out of here." line just sounds utterly perfect. Sounds almost like the sort of joke that'd be made in the Artemis Fowl books. I also like how Search and Rescue shows that all of the elements of Jestro's castle incorporated in the set are actually canon. Normally, these details would be glossed over and only the general concept would be used, but here we've got the dropping bridge, the weird spiky jester horn decorations, the saw blade, Macy's vehicle... It's really nice to see. -
I kind of want more Hero Factory, unlikely though that is. Maybe, to provide some more non-humanoids while avoiding the need to know about pre-reboot stuff, they could make it take place in another part of the galaxy, where non-humanoids are more common and as a result the robots are modeled after them? I mean, HF always seemed to imply that the area near Makuhero City, where most of the storylines took place, is just a small part of the area HF is responsible for.

Nexo Knights: Merlok 2.0 App Rumours and Discussion
DraikNova replied to Chilly_Productions's topic in LEGO Media and Gaming
Nope, I'm still playing it. Haven't gotten the latest update yet, though, and I'm going to avoid it until problems like yours are resolved. I'm not going to scan 70+ shields again. -
Lego Nexo Knights TV Series Discussion
DraikNova replied to DuckBricks's topic in LEGO Media and Gaming
So, anyone found any news about when season 2 will be out? Also, having just watched some of the more recent shield videos, I'm rather amused that Ava has had to deal with Merlok's interface screwing up so often that she's just wired some form of reboot directly to a button. I've really been enjoying this series a lot more than other LEGO media recently. -
Remember, the prize has already been said to be all of the sets. Nothing about the MoUP. But wasn't the introduction of CCBS a factor in Bionicle's original cancellation, or am I mixing rumors up with facts? Could be a good sign. Mask as proper collectables, in large numbers, would be great, since face pieces are integral to making new characters.
-
Am I a bad person for being happy about this? I mean, I hope this doesn't mean no more constraction, but it's really amusing to me that HF was so much more successful than Bionicle G2.

Discussion: LEGO Bionicle Makuta Contest
DraikNova replied to Toa Palpo's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Eugh, the head is always the hardest part of a MOC. I've got an oversized MoUP sort of thing going on right now, but I'm not too sure which prototype to go with and flesh out or whether I should just start over. Would anyone be interested in seeing what I have so far? -

DraikNova replied to Toa Palpo's topic in LEGO Action Figures
I'm going for black and tr. purple accents. And a high-collared cape for maximum classic villainyness . Also, who needs eyes if you're planning to cover the world in darkness? Nice. Very compact and well-armored. A little too much gold, though, and those weapons are kind of underwhelming. Personally, I'd either give him a single, huge, dramatic-looking weapon or no weapons at all. -

DraikNova replied to Toa Palpo's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Essentially the opposite of mine, then. I'd considered that sort of multi-elemental theme, but I figured I couldn't pull it off. Maybe you could make your Makuta look like a giant version of the MoUP, with the limbs and head arranged to match the spikes and with a central disc to match the one on the mask? -

Personally, I just hope we get a plain black version of the MoUP. But this is getting off-topic. Anyway, I'm going for a two-tone color scheme. -

DraikNova replied to Toa Palpo's topic in LEGO Action Figures
I've already had a few ideas. Based on the outcome of the G2 contest, I'll go for a fairly generic villain, although it probably says something about me that something "generic" draws inspiration from an anthropomorphic meatgrinder. -
Based on the prices and the other things I want to get, I think I'm going to have to aim for 40 Globlins (10 of the three red variations and 5 of the two orange ones) and 2 each of the Scurrier variations.
