Onua seems more cohesive than the other toa, at least in my opinion. It being in black helps obscure some of the excessive detailing of the torso plate, amongst other things.

I doubt they would depict a shield power and then not offer it. Either way, my dragon is finally done!

So, for a long time, there had been discussion about making a dragon for Macy here on the Eurobricks forums. I decided to see what I could do. Once I had figured out how to make the mace tail, it started to progress rather quickly, with the head and the main body being finished at the same time, after which it stalled while I tried to figure out the wings. Finally, though, it's done. This beast has 1400+ pieces, and is fully buildable. I expect the real life version to be done sometime in the summer. So here it is, Sir Chompsalot: Side view and size comparison: As you can see here, the legs have a great range of motion (using an internal gearing mechanism for friction), and the tail can be swung using the gear on the back. The little chest holds ammo for the two turrets. The mace tail tip is built around a LEGO Games die piece. The wing-rotors are built in more or less the same manner as the wheels of Jestro's Evil Mobile, and have a good range of motion. Two little blasters on the sides provide covering fire, and aerial assaults are handled by the dual six-stud shooters, which are mounted on turntables on castle turret pieces and can be manned by squirebots. As you can see here, Macy can sit either in the cockpit or stand on the dragon's head. Either place has storage for her mace and shield. Both the upper and the lower jaws of the dragon can move, and in general are supposed to resemble some kind of trash compactor. The forehead can hold a nexo power and the throat has a space to attach 2x2 round bricks for a flame/heat ray effect. The eyes are supposed to resemble giant versions of those the squirebots have. Maybe they do sell well, but the store employees are restocking them quickly?

Lavaria's Mini Magma Mecha
DraikNova replied to DraikNova's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Where? If I tried to cover up the joints, which I tried at one point in the design, it'd restrict the motion to about five degrees in either direction. Maybe I could add knee coverings, since the legs don't need to move forwards at that point, but I'd have to only cover up the outside, since a small bit of inwards motion in the knees assists balance.- 15 replies

Glad it was just another Techcalibur. I'd be really annoyed if it was an exclusive. Incidentally, which sets do you guys think I should get next? I'm planning on getting all of them (aside from Ultimate Beast Master and probably Ultimate Robin), I've got about 50 euros to spend, I found a shop where most products are at 90% or less of LEGO's normal prices and I already have Ultimate Macy and Moltor's Lava Smasher. Does Lance's horse ($17), the Battle Blaster ($9, I believe, although it may have been even cheaper), the Chaos Catapult (ditto) and Ultimate Lavaria (ditto) sound like a good idea? Or should I just get the Battle Blaster, the Chaos Chariot ($27) and Lavaria?

Wow, that magazine comes with Lance's emblem shield inlay? I'm going to have to see whether I can either find the magazine or bricklink the inlay.

Lavaria's Mini Magma Mecha
DraikNova replied to DraikNova's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
That was intentional. I tried to make it look pretty much like a giant minifigure, only with more posability.- 15 replies

Probably using itunes. They've been out for a while there, to the point that wikipedia has a synopsis of each. Back on topic, I have little hope for show-accurate spider globlins, since they'd require a new mold to fit all six legs in there. Incidentally, I just did a search, and there's already an awful lot of fanart out there.

I thought she deserved a vehicle of her own, but I couldn't really think of many vehicles that'd be useful for a spy, so I decided to go for the classics and build a mini-mecha. To access the mecha's interior, the hood folds up and the chest folds down. Since her Ultimate's main power is beetle bomb, I gave her a little pet beetle. It could be a plushie, but that'd make the launcher completely inexplicable, rather than merely mostly inexplicable. Sadly, I couldn't figure out a way to give it three pairs of legs rather than two. Thoughts? The red light inside the hood is supposed to represent some kind of heat ray device. The tr. red tiles are a stand-in for a Nexo Power shield inlay. When I build it in real life, I'm planning to replace the assembly connecting that little grappling hook to the rest of the mech with a stud launcher. Gallery. Comments and criticism appreciated!

Lego Ninjago Layout Update!
DraikNova replied to vinchente000's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
A little bit of wave detail could be nice, but it's so rare to see someone depict still waters that I think it should be kept just for that. -
Lego Ninjago Layout Update!

Very nice, but your links seem to be broken. -
I don't really care for the voices. They sound like someone beat on a voicebox until it started to smoke, and just general sound like someone did a bad job at making them sound generically roboty. I will say this though: the narrator, who is presumably Ekimu, has a very nostalgia-invoking Vakama-esque voice, and the village of the protectors of fire has a similar resemblance to Ta-Koro. Incidentally, I think I've been on the internet too long. I read "Can the Toa stop it?" as "Can the Toa ship it?"

Nexo Knights: Merlok 2.0 App Rumours and Discussion
DraikNova replied to Chilly_Productions's topic in LEGO Media and Gaming
I'm hoping they keep the app for 2017. It's simple, but incredibly addictive. Within the first four days, I ended up with a level 44 team and Macy (who I've been using constantly because of her ability to stun enemies and outrun exploding globlins easily) outfitted almost entirely with level 4 gear (getting her mace upgraded is taking a while). -
Was that ever confirmed? Anyway, even if that's true, it was still based on CCBS rather than system.

Kids tend to be quite good at handling scary stuff, probably because kids have a tendency to misinterpret a lot of stuff to be scarier than it actually is. Anyway, I doubt Bionicle G2 will be particularly big. It has relatively little media compared to big bang themes, and there's always the anti-constraction bias to overcome. I figure that the only way a constraction theme will become really popular is if it consists of system-based action figures.

[HELP] Merlock 2.0, What shields to buy?
DraikNova replied to Technic Jim's topic in LEGO Media and Gaming
In that case, I suggest just getting whatever shields you like the look of best. Incidentally, you can just scan powers you want straight from the box art, anyway. I managed to get the exclusive power from the TRU promotion simply using the image. If you really need a way to counteract the feeling that it's cheating, just impose a limit on yourself where you can only scan a new shield power online if you buy one real shield in exchange for it. That way you can buy whatever sets appeal to you the most without crippling your performance in-app.- 6 replies

[HELP] Merlock 2.0, What shields to buy?
DraikNova replied to Technic Jim's topic in LEGO Media and Gaming
Don't buy any shields. We've got a topic with all of the shields ready for scanning right here. And on the second page, there's a link to a site which is compiling a database of QR codes that you can use to level up your shields to level five from the get-go.- 6 replies

They evoke the "abomination" aspect pretty well, but only by being abominations towards good design sense. Really, if they wanted them to look like abominations rather than natural creatures, they could have probably have evoked that best by giving them extremely unnatural proportions, like long, spindly legs (being consistently unarmored looks better than making limbs half-armored) for Storm Beast (evoking cartoonish lightning bolts with their digitgrade jaggedness), freakishly bulbous shoulders with short lower arms for Lava Beast (possibly using a special piece to make the shoulders look more like little volcanos) and maybe a large number of single-bone limbs and no eyes for Quake Beast (evoking cave-adapted creatures). They'd have to ditch the functions for these things to work best, but while the functions are original, they also have a profoundly negative effect on the Beasts' appearance.

But considering the minimum order, I don't think that shop's price for a single item is really relevant.
-
Maybe I should sell mine. Might as well get something out of a mostly useless set.
-
Constraction in general, probably the Kardas Dragon. CCBS-wise, General Grievous or Witch Doctor, depending on how you pose them. If only we had those. Or more hulk chestpiece-like pieces with two ball cups. Making a thick layer of small shells for big MOCs is all good and well, up to the point where you start to want certain surfaces to be rigid and be capable of supporting their own weight properly.
-
Yup. I'm in half a mind to pick up Storm Beast to show that even I could build a better set with the same number of parts and same general volume. The only thing stopping me is that I don't want that atrocious lower jaw piece in my collection.

I honestly wouldn't mind the random tidbits about other species (and I actually appreciate having lots of little worldbuilding pieces), but they'd have to be actually used as more than just a random plot device.
-
A D2C village would be nice, but I'd hope they'd use at least part of the huge budget to fund some kind of special mold to make spider globlins with. Or possibly a tr. yellow/orange Merlok 2.0 figure rather than just a print.
