[MOC] Mclaren P1 (1:10)
Thirdwigg replied to Pvdb's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
As others have said, this is a great MOC. I also love the 1:10 scale a little better, as features on a 1:8 tend to be a little gummy for my liking. The bodywork is fantastic. Great job! -

Many years later, I have finished instructions for this MOC. If you are interested, find the free instructions at Rebrickable.com. -
[MOC] Mecalac 12MTX - Finished

I like it! I think the transparent bricks work well for the system style you have going on. I'm happy the oscillating arm idea worked for you. -

Yeah, it's some interesting information, so it would be great to keep the data going as the contests continue. Assuming they do...... -

Thanks @Seasider for working with me on this project. It was fun, and a lot of interesting facts came out of the project. @brickless_kiwi the pandemic certainly helped the popularity of TC18, but it also had a pretty low barrier of entry. Both helped a lot. @Erik Leppen I think we can find a way to make the data public. Sit tight.... -

I suspected as much. It's weird to think of the Technic Forum pre @Jim. The data is showing some interested information so far. Hopefully @Seasider will have something to present this week. -

@Jim do you have the same for contest #1 too? -
[MOC] Rigid Chain Actuator
Thirdwigg replied to ord's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Such a cool MOC, and such a fascinating mechanism. Thanks for sharing! -
Thanks again to @Jim and @Milan for hosting another contest. I know you work a lot to support these contests, including tirelessly dealing with and answering all of our absurd questions about rules, regulations, and accommodations. Your work does not go unnoticed. I am again humbled to be on the podium. I love this contest so much that I had to make two MOCs. Thanks to all who voted for my Skid Loader, and I'm happy (and validated) that was the MOC I submitted. I am honored to be the recipient of three medals, and still do not feel like I am in the same league as @MajklSpajkl and @Doc_Brown Congratulations to @Akassin and @MP LEGO Technic creations on your second and first place. They are well deserved, and well come to the "pro" club. By MOCs certainly were influenced by your MOCs. I appreciate this dialoged, and is one of the values that Eurobricks brings to me. I look forward to future competitions with you in the mix. Congratulations to all the other contestants. Know that any completed MOC is worth celebrating, and while you may or may not have been happy with your placing, it was fun for me to see your design, and watch and participate with your build process. I hope you are able to submit additional MOCs to this group in the future. For me, the feedback on my build here, has been invaluable. I am also interested in some of the historical data of these contests. @Seasider I would love to see what you have come up with. I have done some historical data on voting for these contests, but this may be different than results data that you are interested in. Based on my data, I think this was the contest with the closest Top 3, at least in terms of points received.

I think this looks pretty ugly, but I like functions and the part available. And those DBG pneumatics look pretty cool. -
[MOC] Hybrid Garbage Truck
Thirdwigg replied to Thirdwigg's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thanks. It's pretty simple. The main axle controlled by the side gear moves the gear rack which is connected by the bottom link to the compaction blade, but the rack is not connected to the compaction slider. The two bottom gears are mounted on the compaction slider with friction pins, so the movement of the slider is only allowed when the compaction blade is at its end (most open, most closed) position.- 25 replies

Very interesting. It seems like a little more speed would be ok, but the timing looks perfect. Well done.

[MOC] Hybrid Garbage Truck
Thirdwigg replied to Thirdwigg's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hmmm, I am trying to upload a video from Flickr, but it doesn't seem to work. Below from Youtube. Yeah, right now the center of mass is right over the third axle. I think I have space to use two linear actuators for the rear opening. I haven't tested it yet, so I hope it will work. The rear is only going to get heavier. Thanks! I'll keep going and see where this ends up.- 25 replies

One of my favorite Eurobricks builds over the past couple of years was the Garbage Truck @steph77 completed in 2017. It's been a while since I have made a Garbage Truck, so after Thirdwigg Jr. Jr. (6) asked if I could make one, I jumped at the opportunity. I asked if he would be willing to test it as I built it. He said yes, so we were off. First, I wanted to make the truck fully manual with the following functions: Three axle, two steering Fake engine Removable garbage container Opening compactor Extractor plate Two stage compaction cycle Bin lift/tip Everything had to work smooth enough for a child to process the smallest of LEGO parts, particularly the 1x1 plate round. Nothing could get stuck in any movement, as this would frustrate a child (and me, frankly). Back in March, I finally figured out a little design that would be the first step of the compaction function. It wasn't perfect, but it was enough to proceed. The arch part at the bottom will be where the trash is dumped into the compactor. Back of the truck is to the right. I decided to model the truck after the Dennis Olympus garbage truck/bin lorry/refuse truck, in the colors represented by this stunning little build by Jonathan Elliot. So after another build session, I created this simple bodywork. I built a draft of the compactor, and put the two parts together and came up with this. Test one with Thirdwigg Jr. Jr. identified some problems with the compaction. Currently the bottom plate does not pull up far enough, so I'll need to turn the gear mechanism around. Here you can see how it processes from one gear on the side. It's not perfect yet, but I think I may be able to get there. See the video here. We'll see where this goes, but I like what I have so far. It's been almost a year since my last large project, the Ionos Sedan, so it's time for something bigger again. Questions, Comments, Laments, and Insults always welcome...
