Sweet little build, instantly recognizable as Jameston! Great use of lime green too!

Glad to see that Lena is not being left to her fate! Looking forward to what happens next! And great job with the vegetation on this MOC; I really like the colors with the yellow tree and orange/dark red bushes!

[COR Jul FB1] Return to Civilisation
Kai NRG replied to Ayrlego's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Lovely ruined temple Ayrlego, I especially like the hint of color with the dark pink flowers! The scene with Dirk kneeling is also really well done - great job with the vegetation to capture a jungle feel! -
Very nice build, great textures and colors especially on the landscaping! I really like the little garden and the shed off to the right - and the fences are a great touch too! The size of the buildings kind of dwarfs the windmill blades, and I'm wondering how much wind it'll really catch with all that stone right behind it. But the sheep are super cute!

[COR ML] Mesabi Landing Gamma School
Kai NRG replied to Darnok's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Your creations just keep getting better and better! This is really nice, with the details like the tools in the shed and markings on the blackboard. Great job making it open too! -
Really nice job with the white pavilion structure, but I love the underground! Such a cool way to achieve it too, with the four quarters hinging. Great job!
-
Fantastic angle on the keep of this castle! Great blend with the tan of the church too, and I really like the dark red roof of the spire!

Thanks Hobbythom! Thank you! I've experimented with several different waterfall styles in different builds and I have to say, this is one of my favorites too! Good point about the color of the water. I doubt we could have used a darker color for the tiles but the colors underneath are definitely something that could be worked with - something to keep in mind for the next build!

Seems to me like most of the differences between BoBS and GoH have been nailed already! But just to recap, GoH is much more relaxed, less game oriented, more build-improvement oriented. A great place to improve your skills!

This is a really nice build, the SNOT wall is a great touch to set it apart from standard studs-up houses. Really good roof technique too; though the detail and texture of the roof does contrast a little strongly with the very clean and smooth walls. Didn't know houses like this used to just have a hole in the roof instead of a chimney! That's a neat bit of realism, though I am wondering how that works for a two-story house. (Just read your comment, fascinating!) Overall a great little build, looking forward to seeing more from you!

Why thank you! I actually intend to be an author, in so far as I'm not one already.

Thanks guys! Actually, I kind of feel the same, but I was having a tough time saying more without having to explain a lot of extra detail. I'll give it some thought though!

Here's my entry into the lore challenge: The bard’s song tells a tale of a world long forgotten. Race against race, clan against clan; shields clashed with swords, long ago when Men of the Lion fought Men of the Falcon, and human armies succumbed to Orcs and undead. Each group clashed with its neighbor for power, unleashing upon the world a great scourge. The arcadian land was thrown into chaos. When all seemed lost, a council of wise men and sages was summoned. From all the lands they came to convene in the old world’s greatest city: the fortress of Cedrica. To settle the grievances and end a millennium of bloodshed, the sages declined all the treaties of old and joined the clans into one mighty Kingdom: Historica. They founded the Four Great Guilds – each one a realm in itself – Mitgardia in the North, Nocturnus in the East, Kaliphlin in the South, and Avalonia in the West, so that trade routes would spring up and clans would meet in the markets and not in the theatre of war. The wise men chose a family of great honor, to uphold the truce and to keep the four guilds from dispute, and descendants of that mighty kin ruled the central lands of Historica for decades. But darkness and chaos had only been thwarted, not conquered. Magic was unleashed upon the land, magic that fell into the hands of Victor Revolword. Only in union did the Guilds find strength to defeat him and destroy the Elemental Helm that gave him power. Yet the struggle was not over, for out of the chaos magic had bred there arose a new threat: the Black Spire. Ravaage the Terrible, of whom no man ever spoke save with bated breath and behind closed doors, ruled the darklands of Nocturnus with a rod of iron and resistance glowed only in scattered embers. Meanwhile Drow invaded Avalonia, Algus from the north swept into Mitgardia, and the resurrection of the ancient Desert King threw Kaliphlin into confusion. Slowly, the heroes of the Guilds realized the truth: the fire that fueled the powers of destruction and chaos throughout the land burnt deep in the heart of Nocturnus. There Ravaage sought for the ultimate power, the Necromancer’s Helm. Only by once again uniting, this time against Ravaage, could Historica be saved from ashes and the rule of the undead. But who would unite the Guilds? The King had been slain by Revolword, his son murdered by Ravaage; no other family could command the respect of all the Guilds or ignite their loyalty and patriotism. Yet a rumor arose, a rumor of hope. An heir had appeared, under whose banner all who desired peace could unite. Heroes of Historica, rise up and fight the invader who brings discord to your realm! And rise the heroes did. Throughout the land, in every corner, evil and chaos were subdued. Rivals pledged allegiance to the new, unknown King, and sallied forth to battle Ravaage together. Old jealousies were forgotten. Each man felt that it was the dawning of a new day for Historica. By trickery, the mages of Historica defeated Ravaage and destroyed him, sealing the chamber of the Necromancer’s Helm forever. Leaderless, Ravaage’s army has crumbled, his plans and power vanished. Disorder remains, but the worst seems to be over. All eyes turn toward the throne of Cedrica, where the new monarch, Queen Ylspeth, reigns and rebuilds. Much needs to be resolved, many questions remain to be answered, but at last, Historica breaths free. Guildsmen! This is the world you inhabit, this is the place where you will make your fortune, build a mighty empire, and battle for the glory and honor of the banner… I'd be glad to take suggestions/critique if anyone thinks I missed something important but doesn't feel like writing their own. And feel free to point out grammar/spelling errors if there are any!

After having spent the last few hours rabbit trailing in an attempt to wrap my mind around a lore that confused me in the first place, I can second the part about an encyclopedia for a brain! However, the title appeals to me, so we shall see if I can make something out of the muddle of notes that I've collected!

I really like your stained glass window here! Looking forward to seeing what comes out of this build-off too! -
[AoM] Wall Phase III: The yearly badger hunt
Kai NRG replied to Puvel's topic in Guilds of Historica
This is a really nice build, the badgers look cute in the snow there! Great tree too! -
I think the plan is to front page the moment book III actually starts. The thing is, if we jump the gun, yeah, we can have lots of hype now, but may well have died down a bit once the next book actually starts. Besides, right now we've got a lot of ideas floating around, and it's great to hear those from old guildies who know how it works, but it'd be a little tough to wade through for someone new to the scene! I think it's wise to wait until we're organized with final decisions on what guilds will be opened, who is leading, and what lore is essential for new members to know, before we go live on the front page.

It would probably be waay too complicated for LEGO to do anything like a Guilds theme, even just considering permissions and all. But an easter egg reference to the Guilds in an official set would be awesome. Just gotta get a guildie in as a castle designer!

Brethren of the Brick Seas (BoBS) Intro Thread, Era II
Kai NRG replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Oh yes, where is the popcorn! Wish I had a rogue character, I'd double the offer! pizzazz... what backwards planet do you hail from? -
A great action scene, dG! I really like the dark tan bricks built into the wall too, and the hanging flowers/olive vines. Great job with the sewer opening too!
-
Yep, I agree here. Let the group PMs be a BoBS and AG thing, GoH isn't so much of a strategy game, so we don't really need perpetual PMs. 1. Yes, there has been a little, including, of course, the original Varlyrio thread/concept. Here's the original thread, sadly the images don't appear to be working. A few other builds however: (1) (2)(3)(4) And check out the entries to this Varlyrio mini-challenge. Well don't look at mine too hard, it doesn't flatter my building skills (boy was that a long time ago...) 2. It would be nice, and we'd like for initial interest to be pretty well spread out, but of course it's not something we can ultimately control.
-
Remember though, people would still be free to have Nocturnian characters and build in Nocturnus; it's only that for scoring purposes, they'd have to declare allegiance to another guild. So they'd participate in challenges, for instance, on one of the open guild's teams. I think in the long run it could be good for Nocturnus to get a bit of a reset; this way if it gets opened again in the future it can start fresh without having a history of being the smallest guild.

Great little house, I really like this distinctive style and the lights inside definitely add some interest!

Thanks Rogue! These are expert gondoliers... we hope.

Hmm yeah, I guess there's a mainland Varlyrio too, but still, not a ton of overlap with the colonial style of most BoBS builds. Personally I wouldn't worry about build re-use.
