Which Official Pirate LEGO Sets Do You Have?
Mister Phes replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Pirates
Congratulations Mr Holodoc! A built Skulls Eye Schooner is certainly a spectacle to behold. Maybe I can add 1411 Filming of a Pirate Scene to my list. While technically not a Pirate LEGO set, it does have some useful Pirate goodies in there. Or maybe not... -
I don't think it looks too high, but I still stand by what I wrote about it not being long enough. The Black Seas Barracuda is also of a different structure, because your MOC here is much more "robust" so I think another hull section would balance its proportions better.
-
I agree. Because we've got so many ships in the Pirate MOC Forum, including those of circa 1800 I think it makes sense move this thread there for consistency sake.
-
Ah yes, you mentioned that in an earlier post. Well that's good because I'm curious to see the end result.
-
Yes, I see there is some crossover, but if I'm not mistaken Col. Whipstick is attempting to compile a list of books and movies relating to Pirates, whereas the other thread extends to things like role playing games and board games. In addition there's no organisation as users have just posted their thoughts whenever they feel necessary.
-
Mr Tiber, may I get your expert opinion? Should we start this discussion in yet another thread or do you think we should merge this with one of the existing ones?
-
I don't suppose you have pictures of the end product, Mr Mile?
-
Disney's version of Treasure Island! Its the best Pirate movie ever! There are also about a dozen different film versions of Treasure Island. Do you happen to know the URL? We'll need to compare them to confirm this.
-
I'm just wondering if you've read the other thread on this topic?
-
Isn't this a Viking MOC? Besides the use Viking mini-figures and other elements from the Viking theme, the word "Viking" is mentioned several times on the webpage.
-
Yes, I seem to have. Awesome! I made a mistake! X-D But honestly, unless you take pictures of the materials you're using I could not accurately visualise how its going to look. We don't really know what your "natural" colours are because everyone has their own interpretation of what a "natural" colour looks like. These interpretations are going to vary from user to user, some may be spot on, while others will be way off the mark. Anyway, it would be really helpful if we could see exactly which colours we're choosing between.

In this picture it doesn't look to tall, but you've almost taken the picture on an isometric angle from above which interferes with depth perception. Maybe if the image was taken in profile it would help form a better picture of how tall the hull is. At the moment I think it looks too short for its width. I.e. Its a bit short and fat.

Paste can be the right word. Its a form of think and chunky "glue" in some countries. Do you know which brand of paste it was? Advice like this is golden! Yes, please do! You probably won't be able to get it exactly as The LEGO Group had theirs, but does 100% perfection really matter?
-
That sounds awesome Lord Admiral Helden Ravensdorn! Doesn't masonite come in boards, thus making it difficult to use for 3D scenery?
-
That's fair enough then, but who is going to be dedicated enough to set this up and keep it updated?

PICTORIAL REVIEW: 6274 Caribbean Clipper

Yes you are absolutely correct! I think I've spent too much time posting and now I'm getting my ships confused. Je suis incomp -
Davy Jones & Crew: The Production Thread

X-D Do you suppose you could film that and put it on YouTube.com so we all can see? X-D Do you intend to mass produce these and sell them on eBay in the future? -
PICTORIAL REVIEW: 6274 Caribbean Clipper
Mister Phes replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Pirates
Personally I think the Caribbean Clipper is the least of the non-Pirate ships. In 1996 we did witness a drastic change in set design (I.e. piece count was reduced significantly so structural concepts weren't fully resolved) and affected the outcome of the Imperial Flagship's design, however I still prefer it over the Caribbean Clipper. -
Col. Whipstick you said you intend to create your scenery from masonite, how will you simulate water? Will you use standard blue LEGO base plates or do you have another technique in mind?

PICTORIAL REVIEW: 6274 Caribbean Clipper
Mister Phes replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Pirates
Asking for a Renegade Runner and Skulls Eye Schooner must have been one of the best surprises ever! If I recall correctly those two vessels were on the market from 1993 to 1995 so 12 years seems about right. Europe seems to enjoy much better prices for Pirate LEGO sold on eBay, just look at the price for latest Australian Skulls Eye Schooner eBay Auction... -
PICTORIAL REVIEW: 6274 Caribbean Clipper
Mister Phes replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Pirates
Could you elaborate upon what you mean by "really holds it own when compared with the later sets"? Firstly could you clarify what you mean by "later sets"? Sets released in the later years of the pirate theme (i.e. 96 to 97) or do you mean the sets from all themes which have been released in the past few years? -
PICTORIAL REVIEW: 6274 Caribbean Clipper
Mister Phes replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Pirates
Ahhhhh... 15 years ago... The good old days! I remember the biggest set I got given 15 years was 6270 Forbidden Island (although it was called Shark Island here). Not fortunate enough to get something as a big as a Black Seas Barracuda or Caribbean Clipper. -
Davy Jones & Crew: The Production Thread
Mister Phes replied to Lord Admiral Helden Ravensdorn's topic in Pirate MOCs
Yes, a completely understand about keeping something for memory's sake. When I create something (not necessarily for LEGO purposes) I like to keep and document any test versions or versions that came out horribly wrong. It can be often a good way of keep a record of not way to do, so you can focus on improving on the right thing to do. Well I find anyway... Is there any particular reason you've chosen "Green Stuff" as opposed to something like Sculpey which Mr Ghoulrealm is using to achieve a similar outcome? -
Internet you say? Hmmm... Sculpey appears to be based in Illinois which mean I cannot find it in local stores anyway, but no doubt there's a similar product. You've been a great help Mr Ghoulrealm, I'll have a ponder about this over the next few weeks. In the mean time I'll pay close attention to the work you post here.
