  1. Why thank you for creating this thread for me Quite a humourous little MOC (or would it pass a vignette?) we have here. Do you think Captain Gerald managed to escape? He seems quite buff...
  2. Damned you say? Jack Sparrow mentions there will be zombies in the On Stranger Tides teaser trailer previewed at Comic Con a few weeks back. Combine this with the rumour synopsis of the intro: So therefore, the possibility exists there could be other not-so-dead personnel from this ship, including conquistadors.
  3. Yes efullner, please tell us how you made Sir Francis Drake's toros?
  4. Exactly where/when has the time period for the Pirates of the Caribbean universe been confirmed? And even if it has been confirmed, is that really going to stop the filmmakers from taking creative liberities? But lets look into this by examining the rumour material: The real Ponce de León lived between 1474 to 1521, so that means Strangers Tides would be set around 1721. However, there are numerous Ponce de Leóns throughout history, so I've just assumed it's the Spanish Conquistador because he's the most likely fit for the story.
  5. I am now LORD GOVERNOR!!!

  6. This thread is being closed not because of Hitler but because it made little sense to begin with. Since people lack the discipline to stop posting here it looks like we'll have to forcefully direct them to the new LDD Historical Minifigures II thread.
  7. Exactly what movie are you talking about? At no point in this thread have you referenced an existing movie or indicated you're creating a poster for a hypothetical movie.
  8. Efullner, what do you mean "In the end of the movie" - you've already said "P.S. I am not making a movie of this" Clarify the purpose of this thread otherwise it'll have to be removed.
  9. Depictions of Hitler may be a sensitive issue for some but the problem here he has nothing to do with Pirates whatsoever. So efullner could we please have the following revisions to your poster: Remove Hitler and Madam Schwartz because they are not relevant to the Pirate theme. Remove "Prussions Forever" because that has nothing to do with the creation. Correct the spelling of "Bonaparte" - it's spelt "Bonoparte" I've changed the thread title to something more appropriate since there are no actual Pirates here.
  10. Here's the evidence I've accumulated to support this Imperial Armada speculation: There were two King Ferdinands of Spain, Ferdinan IV seems most appropriate for the period in which the film will be set (although this probably won't be implicity stated) Ponce de León was a Spanish explorer associated with the Fountain of Youth Some of the filming is to take San Cristobal Castle at Old San Juan. It was built in 1783 and is the largest fortification built by the Spanish in the new World. There are also these set pictures: There is also another set picture of Jack Sparrow running around the ramparts of a Spanish Fort but I'll be damned if I can find it again.
  11. Where abouts in the world are you and which sets were you thinking about selling?
  12. Nice idea! Although having the text over the picture of the Skulls Eye Schooner is really difficult to read.
  13. If you ever get back from your break you might want to check out the entries for the Figurehead Contest we held a while back. You may also want to learn to use the Search feature as that may reduce your probability of taking future breaks.
  14. Yes, this is correct in which case you might as well open it, but the LEGO bricks inside are very unlikely to be damaged. Unless you're stupid enough to leave the box out in the rain for a month, then Jack Bricker moisture concern may become an issue. Below each post is a "Reply" button, click on that when replying and the post will be automatically quoted to the author.
  15. Most of the bricks are in plastic bags within the box anyway. I keep hearing stories of how LEGO and its boxes degrade over time, but none of my 20+ year MISB Pirate sets seem to suffer from age related issues. Acknowledged nothing lasts forever, I still wonder if these concerns are true or just assumptions? Is there a society of MISB collectors who've failed miserably at preserving their sets over the past couple of decades? Any serious collector would ensure their sets remained out of direct sunlight and away from moisture.
  16. This thread belongs in the MOC Forum, it must have been missed during the great transfer all those years ago.
  17. Actually I'd dub this as an "evergreen" topic. (Thanks LEGO Group for that word ) A favourite Imperial Faction is not a time sensitive discussion so its better to bump an old thread than create an duplicate. There sevreal threads like this I need to someday collate and categorise...
  18. Blast Mr Norro - now I'm pining after them too!
  19. A fish tank for a Skulls Eye Schooner! I could really benefit from some of those. In fact, I think I need a few about 6 metres wide so I can house my entire display collection.
  20. Always amusing when users instruct the Moderators what to do. I decree this thread be merged with Knockoff/Clone/Imitation Brand Pirate Sets in the near future!
  21. If the Queen Annes Renvenge featurse prominently in the upcoming movie it seems logical to produce a set based on the ship.
  22. I assume creating the physical displays took significantly more time and resources. With the modern digital approach, a photographer and graphic artist could get the job done a lot faster. The previous approach would have required a minature builder to sculpt and assemble the landscape while a matte artist painted the backdrop. A more elaborate light setup would have also been required. This process may have taken weeks longer and consumed far more space because the diorama would have to exist until photographed. Although the outcome was definitely worth the extra time and resources. Your comment inspires me to go on a slight tangent which is box art. These days the Pirate box art too is graphic art rather than a physical display. When the Armada Flagship, Red Beard Runner and Enchanted Island were re-released in 2001, the box artwork was the set over a painted backdrop, which had been the pratice since 1996... I think... Interestingly when the Black Seas Barracuda was re-released in 2002 the original box art was used, except it covered the entire box, rather than being restricted within yellow borders. In any case, I don't recall any of the re-released sets appearing in the LEGO catalogues.
  23. YES!!! I agree. I was quietly disappointed with the artwork of the 2009 Pirate theme for this very reason. Although the box artwork for 10210 Imperial Flagship was a step in the right direction. I certainly can. Back in the early 90s I spent hours looking at them, dreaming of one day having all the Pirate sets. The physical dioramas provide far better depth and atomsphere than their modern drawn counterparts. The extra effort really does add something to the presentation. The Amiga equivalent of a BSOD!
  24. No doubt he'd be thrilled by this!
