Thanks, Holodoc, for this excellent review, but you haven't convinced me yet. I'm not going to buy this set... though I do like the petrol waggon and the colour scheme of the locomotive! However, for the time being the Emerald Night will be my one and only PF train! (...though I must admit I haven't equipped it with all the PF stuff necessary to make it run over the tracks yet.) By the way, for me it's a mystery why the "My Own Train" waggons didn't sell well. I've got one of each. And many others here own them or even several copies of them. Were they available in ordinary toy shops or were they exclusives?

I was pretty excited about the release of this set. However, now that I see a pic of it I feel much less excited. It doesn't appeal to me at all. I'm not going to buy it.... but I love that green bike!!

For those who are interested: One of the most precious elements of the Emerald Night is the tan window of the passenger waggon (as you all know). I ordered 20 of them by phoning TLC. I've calculated the price for one single frame for you guys: It's 0.64 euro. The price for one window glass that fits exactly into these frames is 0.39 euro. But I didn't get the rare blay roof elements for the waggon. TLC didn't have them any more. I want to build two additionial waggons for my Emerald Night.

I absolutely love this set! It has such a high playability! So many different waggons and quite many minifigs plus some vehicles! By the way, it's great idea to let the minifigs assemble the cars. Usually they have nothing to do anyway, standing around lazily.

You've uttered my thoughts. Though it's nice to have more detailed and thus bigger sets, they need a lot of space. Where you place a new LEGO truck, you could place four 4-wide trucks. I'll have nowhere to put such a splendid shuttle: lack of space!

I also like those tiles! Your creation looks very much like an official set! And I like the colours as well!

Stephen Hawking fears aliens and so should you!

I believe there must be life on other planets. I mean our universe is endless. Endless! There are so many planets out there that - and that's been said before - it'd really be very egocentric to assume that we are the only "intelligent" life forms in the whole universe. I put "intelligent" in quotation marks. Sometimes I doubt that humans are intelligent. Einstein said, "There are two things that are endless: the universe and human stupidity... but I'm not really sure about the former." -
Normally I don't buy sets just because of one or more minifigs. I cannot remember when I last made an exception and ignored this principle. I must admit that I'd break this rule if I really wanted to get a minifig. I can't remember if I've ever broken it. By the way, what about minifig sets? Do I want the set or just the minifigs in it if I buy it? *Just kidding!* Don't take such a remark seriously!

Happy birthday to you!!

Concerning 8403: That's not the only "going green" thing about it. There's even a green garbage can! This could be one for organic waste (otherwise it wouldn't be green)!

That question you have brought forward has been bothering me for a while as well, metalandi! I have always paid by credit card when I ordered a set from S@H. But if I phone them to get some bricks, I pay them as soon as I get them. There's always a bill in my brick order. I then transfer the money to their bank account (given on the bill). However, if the brick order is higher than 30 euro, I've always had to pay by credit card. I remember buying two sets and not paying for them by credit card. I didn't have one back then. I paid by sending a cheque to them in advance. But while later they said the possibility of paying by cheque didn't exist any more.

@8403: Thanks for the pic. It looks really great. I'm wondering how much it'll be. @8404: I'm pretty excited about the tram and what rails it'll run on. The usual RC tracks or different tracks? It's good that my brother is selling old model railway tracks and Playmobil sets on eBay. I need the space that is going to become free for all the LEGO sets that are going to be released soon!

Your engine looks like the real thing. The way you did the roof is very interesting and unique!

Your creation is absolutey stunning! ...though I'd have made the church a bit wider. Just my taste. No real criticism. Thanks for showing us your amazing work! Edit: Now that I'm looking at the pics more closely: The church is as wide as it should be. I didn't look good enough.

I've just bought some elements from the PaB section of S@H.

Parts you would like to see revived
legotrainfan replied to smegged's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I'd also love to see the good, old cypress tree again! And the old hinges, though it's not likely they will ever be produced again due to the reason already mentioned in the precious post. -
I've never seen such a cab forward locomotive. Did they also exist in Europe or just in America? Your creation is wonderful! Great idea to build this museum. The loco also looks great! But I'd have preferred seeing the whole museum... just kidding! I'd cost you an unbelievably high number of bricks to build something as big as a whole museum!

This is a superb waggon! Congrats! It looks amazingly realistic due to its details.

Why do people buy new sets and never open them?
legotrainfan replied to Ambo100's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Lack of space is the main problem I'm confronted with, and that's also the main reason why I've got some sets in MISB condition. I'd love to open them, but I can put them nowhere. Right at the moment I've still a bit of room left for my MISB sets. I stack them one above the other. And there's also a lot of other stuff in the basement that takes away space. So it's quite complicated to find a place where to put stuff. -
Thanks for this nice review! I rated this set 5. I like its high degree of playability. I also like the choice of colours for the vehicles, the waggon and containers. I like the doors of the containers too. They give you access to their contents (if you put anything in them).

It's a very nice waggon. Yours looks pretty much like the original. Very good work!

Licensed or unlicensed new Western sets?
legotrainfan replied to Klaus-Dieter's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Unlicensed. I prefer a neutral theme without figs and special stuff based on a movie, series, etc. -

Wow, this diesel engine looks really great! It's very detailed and looks like its real-life counterpart! -
What is the hardest Lego set you have ever built?
legotrainfan replied to SharkMan's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Cafe Corner, Green Grocer, and maybe Market Street and the Hobby Train Set 10183. They were all pretty long builds due to the high number of pieces. Sometimes the difference between dark bluish grey and black is not easy to recognise in the instructions. That was another problem.
