  1. Wow, that's what I call a real model train feeling! Installing lights to illuminate the train's interior must have been a challenge, but it has payed off! It looks amazing! Quite ingenious way of doing it!
  2. Racine - Smooth Criminal That's Michael Jackson's hit played on a violin by a girl called Racine, an extremely talented musician! It sounds so unbelievably awesome!!
  3. I also had badly rotating wheels on my Super Chief and its waggons. After a phone call, TLC sent me some where this problem did not occur. Just for additional information: Some sets of the My Own Train series also have this problem as well as the Metroliner legend. Newer wheels work alright.
  4. You're definitely a hero! There aren't many people around who would be courageous enough to open a 7866 MISB set! Though I got into my LEGO train hobby with the release of the first 9V sets, I did look at 12V stuff in LEGO catalogues very frequently before 9V came on the market. This level crossing was one of my favourite 12V sets, and I'd have loved if someone had given me a copy even though I had no 12V sets back then... and even today I have only got a 12V railway station and one crane waggon; I bought both in used condition many years after the disappearance of 12V on the market. The electronic gems are interesting. You presented them well and made me look back at having missed the set with even more regret. I didn't even know that there is so much cabling under the platform and that it is hidden so ingeniously!
  5. I'd also suggest changing the big roof. Use another colour than white for the front part and back part of it. I mean the area between the roof slopes in the front and back. You could turn the roof into a loft.
  6. Interesting to hear that that monorail is not a MOC. With some improvements it'd have been an excellent set. I especially like the Futuron minifgs that are part of it. By them the integration of the aquanauts into the space theme would've been perfect.
  7. There's a special feeling coming from your MOC. A feeling of an era long past. Very nice MOC! It looks awesome! I also like the mix of reddish brown and old brown tiles. The ground/platform looks more realistic that way.
  8. That underwater monorail is not an official, unreleased set. It's a MOC.
  9. Your little layout is quite an eye-catcher! However, for me it feels slightly empty. So I'd agree to the changes Odyssey suggests. It's also possible, though, that it'd look too crowded with overhead lines and floodlights, and the nice look would be lost. Can't tell it for sure.
  10. Come on, guys! Stop complaining! You should be happy to get four train sets for such a terrific price. OK, the train station combined with a freight train is not the most logical combination. However, you can always buy the passenger train at the same time or later to remedy that problem.
  11. As long as you and your family are ok I wouldn't bother too much about your collection. Little plastic bricks can be replaced. Be happy that you are safe and sound.
  12. I love the green around the building. It's a wonderful railway station. You could easily convert it into a normal (= non Harry Potter) station if you wanted to. Excellent work!
  13. Thanks for this review, which was partly hilarous, putting almost everything on the waggon! The waggon is quite simple in style. Nevertheless, this set offers high playability because of the tractor, and the colour scheme - waggon in red, tractor in yellow - is also great! However, I've always wondered how the tractor gets onto the waggon.
  14. I'd prefer the classic shark. I don't know why TLC thought it was time for a new shark. Considering the fact that the new pirates line has been discontinued anyway after only a short time, it is rather surprising that TLC produced a new mould for that animal. The old shark would've sufficed.
  15. On eBay.de a professional seller is offering this set for 137.99 euros (excluding shipping costs)! He or she has still got 8 copies and would ship them to European countries. Just ask for the shipping costs for Greece in advance. But even with the shipping costs added, it should be much cheaper than 259 euros. Click here to get to the eBay auction.
  16. I also love the train worker of which Brickaroo has posted a picture. Whether he has a red or white helmet doesn't play a role for me. I find the torso looks excellent.
  17. Short freight waggons with only one set of wheels at each end are also common in Austria, Germany, Switzerland and - so I believe - in all other European countries.
  18. That's not a hundred percent true. Normally an electric engine has two pantographs in case one stops working due to whatever reason (damage, etc.). Even if it had only one pantograph, it could go forwards and backwards.
  19. I'm sorry for adding something to a thread that is almost one year old. However, I'm eager to know if you can get set 30003 elsewhere. You were lucky to get it as a promotional with your Daily Mirror, but are there no toy stores that are selling it? Toys R Us? Or any other toy stores? I'd love to get this set, but I've seen it in no shop so far. By the way, I'm from Austria, central Europe. So comments like "Yes, here in Seattle we have five stores selling it" won't help me much. I'm not going to fly to the US just because of one little set. If I cannot get it here, I'll have to buy it on bricklink.
  20. For the time being it is neither equipped with a 9V motor nor with PF components. I'm intending to use it as a PF train, though I have got no idea when I'll motorise it. It's quite expensive to buy all PF components to make it run. However, as soon as I have all the necessary stuff it'll run on a 9V layout.
  21. Same here. I put the extra pieces in ziplocks and write the number of the set they were orginially in on a white paper sticker and put it on them. I'm not a moccer either, but I'd never throw them away.
  22. Thanks, guys! Soon after reading your replies I bought the necessary bricks on bricklink... plus some other bricks that I need for other things.
  23. I want to modify my Emerlad Night the way you suggested, but how long is the black axle? Eight studs? And could you - or anyone else - please tell me the bricklink element number of the four technic elements directly below the black axle in the picture? Thanks for your help!
  24. You can also send them a mail and ask that question (shop.lego.com => contact us => send mail). Just give them a set in which PF straight tracks appear. Tell them you need a straight, which is part of that particular set. Ask them what one piece of straight track would cost and ask how many you are allowed to buy at once? There should be a limit, but I think it's above 50 pieces. Don't know if this is true for every element, though. Don't forget to ask for the shipping costs, but normally the tell you the price including the shipping costs anyway. I have just looked for and found the old receipt. It was the order with my two straight RC/PF tracks. The TLC element number of "rail straight 16 M" (straight PF/RC track) is: 4279714. As I said, I ordered two pieces and got them for 2.72 euros (one piece: 1.36 euros). However, that was in 2007 and the price might have gone up.
  25. Since this has popped up here again and tends to pop up regulary in many threads, I'll give my usual response: You're not obliged to buy Straight and Curved Rails 7896 to get straight tracks and curse about the unnecessary curved ones. If you want only straight RC/PF tracks, just go to shop.lego.com. Click on "Contact us" quite at the bottom. Use the phone number given for your country/continent to contact a LEGO employee. Tell them that you want pick-a-number straight tracks, namely those that appear in set 7896. Stress that you only need straight ones and tell them how many you need! Voilà, you'll get brand new straight tracks from TLC! It's as easy as that! I myself once bought two new straight RC/PF tracks from TLC by just phoning them. I haven't got a single curved RC/PF track. I've mentioned all that elsewhere here on Eurobricks. Folks, you can be happy that I'm a teacher! I'm used to saying things multiple times with no one seeming to really listen!
