My point is you don't always have to try something when you know you won't like it. Of course they do. The new Transformers Teaser has a theme of chaos, evil, and destruction. It gives a good sense of what the movie will be like. This teaser gives a sense of cheesiness, bad animation, and poor writing. What should this tell us? I mean the narrator. I guess that isn't technically dialogue, but that's still writing.

Yep... thus why I won't be buying it! I DO realize this was made for kids, but since I am NOT a kid, I would naturally not enjoy this movie, yes? I was hoping it would have some elements in it I could enjoy, but alas, that looks doubtful. And allow me to illustrate an important difference between forum posts and movies... 1. Movies are always intended to sell, meaning they'll always contain themes the maker believes will sell well. 2. LEGO HASN'T made 10,000 very good movies, or any for that matter. It's not like I'm just not paying attention to the good stuff; it just DOESN'T EXIST. 3. You don't loose $20 or more by reading a forum post. 4. Forum posts don't have teaser trailers. Your analogy is more than flawed, I'm afraid. In any case I will agree that judging a whole movie based on 30 seconds of footage isn't really fair, but we can already see from the teaser that the animation is sub-par, the theme is cartoony, and the dialogue is cheesy. All of these issues were what dragged the first 3 movies down. I think the likelihood of this moving sucking megablocks is high enough for me to skip it completely.

Ahh, I see... I don't disagree with that. I'll take some time to flesh out the reasoning for my choices as well. Best: Space - LEGO Space is one of those themes that just lends itself to imagination. The sets are all creative, interesting, and unique. There was a loose storyline to bond the different factions together, but it was flexible enough to allow for endless imaginative play. Some of LEGO's most intriguing designs came from this theme. The new Space Police is awesome, but for a slightly different reasons: huge minifig variety, designs even an AFOL can appreciate, and plenty of homage to classic Space. In my opinion, this is the theme that really nails the point of LEGO: Imagining vast, fictional worlds and building them. Aquazone - Okay, I decided to add Aquazone to my list because I forgot it last time. While this theme suffered from a few weak designs, it brought us plenty of awesome concepts and aesthetics, including one of the best bases LEGO's ever come out with. It was similar to LEGO Space in that it created a huge world of different factions connected by a loose storyline, but it wasn't so strict that you couldn't make anything up. The generally disliked Stingray minifigs were actually some of my favorites- I think they're people who have been living in the deep for so long they've evolved to better suit their watery environments. Now THAT is original, LEGO! Unfortunately the 2007 revival was disappointing and captured so little of the originality and aesthetics that made the original Aquazone great. That's saddening, but I'm content to collect other Aquazone sets off of Ebay. Adventurers - Again I decided to change my choice after more thought. Adventurers is nearly unparalleled in terms of variety, interesting settings, and awesome pieces. It was the original LEGO Indiana Jones, and I think it still outstrips it's licensed update. It was one of the few character-focused themes, great in that there were plenty of refreshingly new settings to go Adventuring in. The strongest aspect of this theme was probably the part selection, which was incredible. Runner up: Agents - It's rare that LEGO actually succeeds in improving on a theme in a revival, and for that I think Agents deserves an honorable mention. Great designs, cool figs, and nice colors make this one of LEGO's best, but I decided not to put it in the top three because I can't get into it quite as much as the others I've mentioned. Worst: Exo-Force - I won't lie: I hate anime. At least, American anime. It's annoyingly cutesy and, more often than not, lazy. So when I found out the highly anticipated new LEGO Mech theme was going to be anime, I was riotous. I was even more disappointed when I realized that the sets would reflect the faults of the art style: simplistic, lazy, and boring. The construction was skeletal at best and the minifigs looked ridiculous. One or two sets might have been worth picking up, mostly for the parts, but generally I think this theme was one of LEGO's most disappointing. We need a Mech theme that's more like Armored Core, not this brightly-colored garbage. Galidor - I don't think I need to explain this one. Star Wars - I think this theme lacks what makes LEGO, LEGO. First of all, there's almost no imagination involved. You're basically building what George Lucas already dreamed up and you can't do much with the sets besides re-tell the stories he's already told. What's the fun in that? Secondly, LEGO insists on re-releasing somewhat improved versions of sets already released! What the hell? If there was ever a sign that a theme needed to bite the dust, that was it. I wouldn't mind Star Wars so much if it wasn't so blatantly obvious that LEGO is milking every last drop of money out of it. The sets are mostly ridiculously overpriced re-releases coated with a thick layer of flick-fire missiles. Once in awhile a gem of a set will come out, but two or three sets don't justify an entire theme. When I look at Star Wars, I don't think of LEGO: I think of a profit machine that has nothing to do with imagination. Why are some people so afraid of originality? I'll never understand it.

I rather liked Stingrays (at least the big sets)... I'm surprised they're getting so much hate.

That's like looking at a piece of dog shit and telling me I won't know I like it unless I try it. Every Bionicle movie thus far has sucked balls, and now that our first glimpse of the new one is utterly pathetic and disappointing I'm not about to shell out $20 for a minuscule chance of enjoying it at all. Unless a new trailer totally makes up for this garbage, which I seriously doubt, I'll be putting my money towards much better purposes. If LEGO invested any effort at all into their movie, they'd try and make their "first glimpses" look something more than terrible. The cheesy announcer makes it clear that LEGO is just hoping to cash in on the 9-year-old Bionicle fanatics who can't tell a good movie from a hole in the ground. Yes, I will watch the full trailer and judge that as well, but even if it's marginally improved I won't be buying this, because I can see that LEGO's not making this for people who take movies seriously. If they were, they'd market it for such people.

That's what I was thinking. XD

Power Miners: New Sets for 2009

People like the Crystal King? -
Oh my god, I just saw the new Bionicle trailer. WHAT. THE. SHIT. Nothing about that looked good. The animation looked like a videogame cutscene, the announcer sounded like he was from Cartoon Network, the sound effects sounded like they were taken from Flashkit.net, and the whole concept was just totally unimpressive. Now I have to wait for my eyes to stop bleeding... at least I know I won't be wasting any time and money on this movie.
-
I find it funny that you chide everybody for having opinions on themes and then proceed to defend Bionicle and call their opinions silly. And besides, I don't quite get what you were expecting... how on earth are you supposed to judge LEGO's best themes without some degree of opinion taking part?

Sadly, these videos have sold me on the Space Truck Getaway/Container Heist. At first glance the lack of a SP ship is disappointing but when I see it in person, I can't deny that it is VERY stylishly pulled off... ...which means I'll be getting every set in the theme. Sadly these sets come out right before I walk off to college. This will be an interesting year. The biggest problem with the Gold Heist ship are those two black arms holding the Flick Fire missiles on the front. That is just SO sloppy and annoying. They don't make any aesthetics sense. I normally don't mod my sets but those will go. Otherwise I still think it's a great set, and it's pretty cheap by today's standards. I'll wind up getting it for sure. The SP3 lineup is pretty strong; the only thing I find disappointing are the new Space Police minifigs. I'm not getting "police" vibes from them at all. Looks more like Blacktron to me.

I'm starting to really like Vastus. He's pretty much the only green canister set to really look like a Jungle warrior.
-
That would be Life on Mars, which is pretty different... Also, for an admin, you're quite feisty.

I never understood why people get so touchy when people post 12-hour-old information. It's not like they're hurting anybody, they just have better things to do than sift through a topic flooding with rumors. I am glad that the AT-OT is coming out on March 30th- that gives me time to save up! It looks like I will probably be getting this after all. Even if it is $50 overpriced.

I'm not sure about Sweden, but I know that it's not all of Europe. I think Sweden may still get them...
-
Space Police 3 won't be released in the UK. It's possible they may be available at S@H and LEGO Brand stores, but no retailers, at least for now.
-
Really? I've never heard ANYONE hate Mars Mission 08 more than 07 before...
-
Yet I hope you will agree that the OT movies were far superior to the PT movies.
-
I can't believe I forgot Galidor.
-
It does, but this being LEGO and all, there's no reason not to enlist one of these aliens onto the SP3 team.

Best: Space - 09 Space Police looks incredible. Castle - It's so much fun to build armies! Agents - One of LEGO's better new themes, and the 09 wave looks great! Worst: Exo-Force - Skeletal designs, stupid minifigs, boring premise. I want a Mecha theme as much as the next guy, but this isn't it. Galidor - Isn't this obvious? Technic - I know some people out there dig Technic, but I could never get into it since LEGO stopped making interesting fiction themes and started focusing on trucks and machinery. Rather boring- isn't that what we have City for? Runner up: Star Wars (Clone Wars Subtheme). The minifigs are sparse and creepy, the flick-fire missiles are far too abundant, the designs vary from mediocre to lazy, and the prices are ridiculous. I guess this is what happens when LEGO makes sets based off of Star Wars' worst film.

Power Miners: New Sets for 2009

He wasn't really being all that rude... that's a typical reaction on the internet. Do we have prices on these yet? -
I hope you mean in terms of LEGO sets. Anyway, does anybody else feel that the AT-OT is actually a little skeletal? The dropship it comes with is clearly the highlight of the set, but when I take a closer look at the AT-OT, I find it's rather sparsely built and not terribly movie accurate. And at this price, it's hard to justify a buy when both models aren't amazing.

If you ask me, 6 clones is a pretty SMALL number. The Castle Chess Set came with WAY more minifigs and it was only $200... the minifigs were way different, too, and some of them were unique to that set. It's a rip-off, through and through. But it might yet be worth it.
