Creeeeepy. Yet brilliant. Great MOCing style you've got there. Good work.

Seeing this topic getting attention again makes me realize I promised you all a Space Police 2 review. Oh snap.
-
No limit; simply try to make it realistic. LEGO probably won't include ten minifigs in a $20 set.
-
I like the Carbide, but it's more of a $5.99 set. It would probably be better to build from the ground up with the storyline in mind so we can have the Empress forces as well as the Rebels. I haven't made any Empress ships yet so the first person to come up with a concept for them will be the one to decide how they'll look. I'm personally thinking more black and grungy looking. XD @ The Merry Missile.

We've all been calling for a Steampunk theme for quite some time. But while we're waiting for LEGO to answer our plight, why not make our own? The idea here is to make a comprehensive "theme" with a main conflict between two factions and a range of differently sized sets, from impulses to huge $99.99 behemoths. The storyline I dreamed up for this project is as follows: --- Pollution levels have been rising dramatically since the industrial revolution, and humanity finally hit the tipping point in 2143 CE. Choking fumes and acid rain swept the Earth's surface clean of life and the remnants of humanity were forced to flee to their last remaining sanctuary: the skies. Much of what they knew was lost in the chaos of post-apocalyptic Earth, and humanity's new home had to be powered by ancient technology utilized out of necessity. There they remain today, in huge cities drifting above a thick churning soup of toxic chemicals and acid. In the interest of re-establishing order, a queen was appointed to rule over the entire city. The election was controversial and it resulted in a division of the survivors, with some loyal to the queen and others opting to thrive in a democracy. The two factions warred for years until the Queen finally overpowered her enemies and swiftly took control over their skies, creating a new empire. Soon after her success, it became clear that the Empress had no intention to step down from her position. Her half-human, half-automated guards patrolled the streets in the thousands, hunting for rebels and ensuring that every citizen was doing their job efficiently. For reasons unknown to the public, the Empress lived far longer than a normal human. Her body grew disfigured and cybernetic implants were attached to her face. Many suspect that she gained access to technology thought to be lost in the apocalypse, but nobody could prove this. In March 2312, a group of rebels successfully attacked and destroyed a battleship on a training mission. This new movement against the Empress may be humanity's last hope for freedom from the seemingly immortal rule of the disfigured old woman. Will this mysterious band of rebels succeed? --- This is a project for everybody who is interested in helping out. We'll need impulse sets, a $5.99-sized set, a $9.99 sized set, $19.99, $49.99 etc. I'll keep track of all the models in the area below: Theme completion checklist: - Impulse 1 - Completed by Natman8000 - Impulse 2 - Completed by Spyder - $5.99 size - $9.99 size - Completed by Natman8000 - $14.99 size - Completed by Black Rabbit - $19.99 size - Completed by Algernon - $29.99 size - $49.99 size - $99.99 size I have already built the $19.99 model for this theme. This will be a good way for you guys to see the "style" of the theme. Click the picture to view the gallery. Steam Transport [by Algernon] Automation Pursuit [by Black Rabbit] Empire Patrol [by Black Rabbit] Outpost Assault [by Natman8000] Rebel Defense [by Natman8000] Queen Escort [by Spyder] So go on then! Get MOCing! Keep the idea of the theme in mind as you build so we can have a nice, unified style. Rebels are generic Steampunk; Empire is black, twisted and metallic.

I think a line needs to be drawn between both ends of the spectrum here. I personally get quite annoyed with people who scream "<insert that tiresome argument>!!!" at every piece that's got a bit of curvature on it. Such people don't really understand LEGO and they annoy me to no end. On the other hand there are some cases when you have to wonder what LEGO's thinking. Just because it's physically possible to make use of a certain part doesn't mean that it's a useful part. When you have to go out of your way just to find a way to use a part, then I think it's getting to the point of <insert that tiresome argument>. I mean this in the extreme sense; there are times when you have to scratch your head just to fit a particular piece onto ANYTHING, and at that point it's moved from the realm of a strange LEGO piece to the slowly growing stockpile of megablocks parts. Sure, there are talented MOCists out there who can make use of expired pudding if they want to, but I doubt even these professionals would call such pieces useful. I don't feel that Bionicle is guilty of such parts besides accessories like disks and spheres. But these are still OK because system has the same things for minifigs that are of limited use, like carts and walkie-talkies. But, Bionicle can't really be used for anything other than mechanical creations because all of the parts are textured with mechanical doodads. Also Bionicle doesn't render anything but characters very well, as I said before. It's limited, more limited than system, but it's still LEGO in the sense that it can be used for plenty of interesting MOCs, and it has been. It's just not everybody's cup of tea because all it can really do is characters.
-
That was some damn good stop-motion.
-
Black. It's LEGO's most versatile color. Especially useful when you're making mechanical things; you can always justify a little black or gray in there.
-
Bionicle is not quite has flexible as system, but there's still plenty you can do with it. System doesn't render biped figures quite as well as Bionicle, but System can do everything else much better. Yet with enough imagination you can use both quite effectively. I don't like Bionicle too much myself, but people saying that it's not even LEGO... just not true.
-
Yep, we know all the prices now. What are you looking for? I disagree! I can find plenty of uses for such parts. You just gotta be a little imaginative.
-
Not bad for a first try. I don't like the colors much on the blue mech; there isn't enough red to justify it's presence. It's still nice looking through. I like the fig's weapons. Good work.

I forgot to add LEGO Sports to my list. That theme sucked like none other.
-
...thereby going from refreshing and original to one of the most well-known and common designs in science fiction history. Beautiful MOC. I applaud your creativity. The tree coming out of the end of it is a really nice touch. Good job.

Wtf. XD Nice concept. Are the monsters little corn stalks?

...somebody hacked the poll. o_O

Well, I just went to my local Home Depot and Wal-Mart, and neither stores carried the containers. An employee at Wal-Mart told me that they used to have them but not anymore. I'm starting to suspect the product has been discontinued and that's why the amazon priced is so high.
-
Oh my. o_o I will never be quite that organized. But I'm going out to buy some of those stack-on bins now. There aren't any on the Wal-Mart website... are you sure Wal-Mart has them?
-
I've never been the kind of guy to get more than ten of the same kind of minifig, and even then it's usually because I'm collecting a theme... When I buy individual minifigs from bricklink it's to get rare/awesome minifig parts for my personal projects. I rarely buy more than one. But the only advice I can give you is to buy lots rather than individuals- they tend to be a better deal. Ebay is your friend.

It looks like the 39 drawer set will work best for me, even if it is a little pricey. Thanks for all of the information. Are they cheapest at Home Depot?
-
What exactly is the one you have? A lot of customer reviews are saying that the drawers are opaque rather than clear like yours are. Also I'm not really sure what size to get.
-
Would anybody recommend this brand for LEGO storage?
-
Impressive... honestly though I don't think I dig Classic Space enough to bother collecting even close to that many sets.

You ought to consider putting that cash into college, not LEGO.
