  1. The site had LotR CGI pictures and bios, too. I've saved them all. :)
  2. Nice video! Looking forward to see the updated products and CGI pictures (particularly Elrond).
  3. Regarding pronounciation, nearly every reviewer gets Gandalf and Aragorn wrong. The 'a' (Gandalf, Aragorn) is not as in "can" but rather as in "barber".
  4. I'll get the Wizard Battle and Elrond's Council as soon as I find them in Australia. An employee at a toy store checked the catalogue today with the release being "June" in Australia, so the sets should pop up soon. I also had a look at the official Australian prices: 23, 60, 100 and 140. The 100% Australian surcharge on the Council of Elrond is disappointing. I pondered to buy two sets to build a slightly larger Rivendell, but given that I could get 4 sets for the same price if I were in the US, I may leave it at one. The Black Gate looks great and is a must-buy for the minifigures alone. I won't buy a second set but might have a look if I can get individual bricks to assemble a second tower without the gate section. Finally, the Corsair Ship is even worse than I thought. The sails look terrible from one side, the cabin's interior lacks any detail and the whole thing just doesn't scream BUY ME! at me. It doesn't even whisper buy me, please. Easy to pass, although I would like to get the army of the dead. Thanks for the links to the reviews, everyone!
  5. Thanks. I have to try it. Regarding Aragorn, I initially gave him a green cape which looks fine to me. Now I've replaced it with black, as in the video game.
  6. Has anybody come up with a way to give a cloak to Gimli?
  7. I love the mountain/ castle and agree with others: the tower looks too high and the bulge on the Deepingwall could be smoothed out.
  8. Target at Macquarie Park/ Sydney had Series 10 Minifigures. I did not end up buying any since they were all roughed up and obviously checked by scalpers. Target further had two Monster Fighter sets "below cost".
  9. It looks very impressive, but for some reason it's more impressive due to quantity than quality to me. Maybe it's the mediocre photo quality, or it is due to other amazing Helm's Deep MOCs I've seen before.
  10. It's 'only' 80 dollars more than the US price, and if you order by August, you save 45 AUD on shipping. http://shop.lego.com/en-AU/The-Tower-of-Orthanc-10237
  11. That Uruk-hai army looks fantastic! The banners are superior to the official version and the different angles of the spears are strikingly reminiscent of the movie scene. I love the leader signalling to attack and the drummer and guy with the crossbow, too.
  12. Thanks for the great review! I have no interest in the set theme but might pick up this set for the white horse (to use with the Lord of the Rings line) and sell the rest.
  13. Wow, thanks for that picture. I left it in the quote on purpose in case other have not seen it. Does anybody know if those LEGO sets are approximately to scale with movie Orthanc and Hornburg? I remember from the book that Orthanc is supposedly 500 feet tall. No idea about the Hornburg. Regarding the discussion about Minas Tirith, I'd be disappointed if it was too small. I would hope for something as high as Orthanc and an additional set similar to Uruk-hai army that can be used to easily create multiple walls. I like the Minas Tirith MOC aside from the catapults (and would hope for a brick-build fell beast) although I'd hope for something a little bit larger. In either case, I find it horrendous to call somebody's creation "crap", "trash" or something similar. A lot of time has obviously been invested into that MOC (and others - I love his Meduseld!), and while constructive criticism is certainly acceptable and probably desirable, some of the expressions on recent pages were close to personal insults, in my opinion.
  14. I didn't even think about that. I'd love to see your a photo of your uruk army once you have the banners!
  15. July is earlier than I expected for Orthanc. In hindsight I'm glad for the late press release. Imagine we'd have known about the specifics of this set since last December! What a long wait that would have been. :)
  16. A wonderful review! The effort you have put into outlying contents of each bag, photoshopping, comparing LEGO to movie pictures and sufficient expression of your thoughts in writing is simply fantastic. Thank you!
  17. I thought they referred to the Middle Earth "universe".
  18. Please read your assumption again. Now think about being in the shoes of one of TLC's managers, responsible for making a profit. Now read your assumption again. If it still makes any sense to you, I would love to read an elaboration on it because I cannot see the point. But then, I'm a biologist and never had much insight into economics, so I'm willing to listen.
  19. Absolutely fantastic! I hope we'll get an official version of this - only slightly smaller and accordingly less expensive.
  20. Thanks for the pics! I did the Tongariro track last year and agree with your recommendation. Rugged volcanic landscape, sulphur lakes, waterfalls, clear streams and finally dense vegetation - I've never seen that much variety within a single day's walk. Knowing that the mountain functioned as Mt. Doom in the movies made it even better. :)
  21. Personally, I pick sets for their appeal as display pieces. I suppose I am a Tolkien fan first, and LEGO fan second. Having "An unexpected Gathering" or "Battle for Helm's Deep" on the shelf not only looks good but ensures instant recognition. I'd even put "Attack on Weathertop" into that category if I set it up with Nazgul closing in on the hobbits. The corsair ship is certainly a nice ship, and I'd have loved this 25 years ago. Now, however, it is just a large, display-space eating, generic vessel to me. The ship played such a minute part in the movie that I'd have to explain friends why I set this LEGO pirate ship up next to the cool Lord of the Rings sets. I am glad the set does not include any desirable minifigures (for me), so not buying it is a no-brainer for me.
  22. I love the Rivendell set due to its display value. Beautiful colours and instantly recognisable. I prefer it over a pirate ship (the first LotR set I won't purchase) or a black wall. But I agree on some of the points of critique you elaborated on, Darth Caedus. Mainly, I'd have wished for another figure instead of Gimli. I would have also appreciated an alternative leg piece for Arwen. The problem with LEGO robes is that the make characters taller than those with regular leg pieces. It works really well for Saruman, but seeing Arwen towering over Aragorn does not sit well with me.
  23. I remember some rumours about the return of the forest men (possibly due to the name of one of the sets). I would have had a slight interest for nostalgic reasons. These 2013 castle sets, however, are not worth thinking about in light of the Middle Earth line. I'm glad for classic castle theme fans, though!
  24. Thanks for the info! I always considered 300 AUD as absolute upper limit for Orthanc. Without the extra shipping cost, I might just buy this set. That is ridiculous! You'll be better off spending a week in Australia and buying it here.
  25. The Rivendell set immediately moves up into my top 3 LotR/ Hobbit sets so far, joining Helm's Deep and Bag End. But then there's Orthanc and Weathertop... I suppose it's simply a great product line!
