LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 12 Rumours and Discussion
AmperZand replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
It's true that historically jesters tended not to wear purple because purple (and blue) were expensive dyes reserved for the clothes of the most important people. Those colours came to symbolise importance in medieval art. For the record, I quite like the purple and black design as well as the blue & red and red & white jesters TLG has produced before and BW's dark red parts.- 1,109 replies

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 12 Rumours and Discussion
AmperZand replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Methinks TLG leaned on the image's host to take it down. If so, it's a sure sign the image was of the CMF jester. @8BrickMario & Dorayaki, There's nothing wrong with the existing LEGO fool's cap IMO, though a new mould, perhaps like BrickWarriors' one, would have been cool. I have a MOC 'death jester' as well as a few other MOC jesters. I was waiting for the CMF jester's release so I could photograph them all together, but I may take a pic of the ones I have now.- 1,109 replies

Blocks Magazine ( http://brickfanatics.co.uk/introducing-blocks-magazine/ ) was supposed to be out at WHS today, but I was told by the nearest branch to me that they won't have it until the 19th. Has anyone managed to get a copy or has it been pushed back across the country?

You can still get them on BrickLink: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=6030 . They're not horribly expensive even in new condition.- 1,109 replies

When I saw the picture on the front page, I almost dismissed it as an LDD. I didn't believe it could be real until I opened the thread and saw the other pictures. I'm not very free with compliments but I have to say this is absolutely stunning - a real tour de force (force pun completely intended). Congratulations!

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 12 Rumours and Discussion
AmperZand replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
If TLG went with a gold weapon, my guess is that it would be a new colour of an existing part in the same way that the Swashbuckler's rapier is a new colour of the Musketeer's. If that's the case, you should be able to pick up extras of the original colour on the secondary market for your army.- 1,109 replies

For much the same reason, my list is similar to yours. Mine are: Series 1: Caveman (with Forest-man a close second) Series 2: Spartan Series 3: Elf (my favourite CMF of all!) Series 4: Musketeer (with the Gnome a close second) Series 5: Gladiator Series 6: Genie (with Minotaur a close second) Series 7: Ocean King (with Evil Knight a close second) Series 8: Vampire-Bat (with Fairy a close second) Series 9: Cyclops (with Forest-woman a close second) Series 10: Medusa (my second favourite CMF of all. The Amazon Warrior is my second favourite of this series) Series 11: Yeti Series 12: Wizard (of those seen so far) Olympics series: Judoka Movie series: Mermaid (with Shakespeare a close second) Simpsons series: Mr Burns (used his torso and legs for a MOC Riddler. Also, his three-eyed fish is cool. I had no interest in the rest of this series.)

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 12 Rumours and Discussion

Indeed. He reminds me of Merlin from Disney's The Sword in the Stone: And Merlin as depicted in this cover illustration by John Howe of The Once and Future King:- 1,109 replies

What a brilliant MOC! Absolutely fantastic. The design, stonework and roc are highlights, but everything about it is great.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 12 Rumours and Discussion
AmperZand replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
As a collector of historical/fantasy/mythological minifigs, I'm really excited by the names of the forthcoming CMFs and the images we've seen so far. The wizard (Merlin), Greek goddess (Athena) and swashbuckler (Will Turner) are all 'must haves' and the jester, jeannie and hun sound like they will be too. When I read that they were doing a new wizard, I was concerned that they were replacing the classic wizard's hat. But having seen the image of the new wizard, I have to say I'm relieved. He certainly captures the archetype as well as or even better than the old wizard. I always pictured wizards in long robes but TLG has previously normally (maybe always?) given them articulated legs. It's good to see one in a gown. @8BrickMario, Great use of the new wizard's picture!- 1,109 replies

Lego space guys red, blue.black and yellow
AmperZand replied to Chris1594's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Me too. I thought I was alone in doing that. When I'm looking for something, I almost always start with the catalogue, not the official search. -
Shame you can't remember the name. I'm surprised that there's a low quality Japanese clone brand. Japanese consumers normally demand high quality products, hence the popularity of real LEGO there. Now if it were Chinese, that wouldn't surprise me at all.

I reckon private resellers (Ebayers and BrickLinkers) mostly fall into one of three categories: 1. Investors, or scalpers, who are looking to make a quick kill on hard-to-find sets (e.g. Green Grocer) and minifigures (e.g. convention exclusives), 2. Micro-businesses run by people who have lots of time but not a massive income, and 3. Hobbyists who are looking to offset their spending on LEGO I believe the OP is conflating all three. Hobbyists (type 3s) who also sell sets or parts do it as part of their past time. They're not really motivated by profit: any margin they make gets pumped back into their collecting. As for the micro-businesses (type 2s), there are lots of people who have time on their hands but modest incomes. They may be retired or can't get conventional jobs for a variety of reasons such as disability, caring for family or studying full time. For them, it means an extra income at relatively little risk. In countries where taxes are high (which tend also to be the ones where LEGO is most expensive), I suspect that the micro-businesses aren't paying taxes on their profits, so the margin is larger than one might assume. I don't have any love for the investors (type 1s), but I do buy minifigures and parts on BrickLink and I'm glad that the type 2s and 3s allow me to get exactly what I want without having to get entire sets.

An interesting article on the BBC news site about brands suffering because they have become associated in the minds of consumers with all goods of that type, e.g. Aspirin, Escalator, Thermos, Hoover and Kleenex: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-27026704 Is the same thing happening to LEGO? With all the clone brands and counterfeits, does the general public think of LEGO as a class of toy building bricks? Do people (not AFOLs of course) say "Lego" when talking about other companies' products? My non-AFOL sister-in-law refers to Megabloks as "Lego" which makes my skin crawl.

BrickWarriors - New Viking Items
AmperZand replied to Thrash's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
I've placed an order for the helmet, armour, axe and shield. I already have some BW horns. I intend to MOC a nordic-inspired evil dwarf. A fuller, the groove along the length of some sword blades, is for lightness and rigidity, not blood. -

ReBrick "Name the Ship" Contest - and the WINNER IS...
AmperZand replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Pirates
No, but typically the films/books aren't aimed squarely at kids. LEGO is viewed as a kids' toy (we, as AFOLs, know better of course). -
Bootleg Super Heroes minifigs - worth it or not?
AmperZand replied to KingPixels's topic in Community
The BrickFortress articulated short legs are really good. I reviewed them here on EB a while back: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=73584entry1527866 I don't have any of the SY ones. Is anyone who has both able to compare them? Are the SY ones actually BrickFortress ones, copies or original SY designs? -
ReBrick "Name the Ship" Contest - and the WINNER IS...
AmperZand replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Pirates
Probably true of the vast majority of parents as things stand, but what if a malicious journalist made the connection? I can easy imagine a British tabloid running the headline: "Lego names ship after paedo descendants'". It's not the word, it's the ship by that name and what can be associated with it that matters. I can't imagine an editor running a story connecting bounty hunters in SW and the ship. That's too tenuous even for the British tabloid press. -
So far, I'm calling him/them Fixel, a portmanteau of figure and Mixel. It's interesting that you refer to Fixel in the singular. Does he have one brain located somewhere behind his armour or do they have two brains, one in each head/eye?

That's really cool! It makes me think of a marionette.

This is what happens when you cross a minifigure and a Mixel... Even though I MOC'ed it, I can't figure out if it's two eyes on eye-stalks with a body as a head (i.e. with a mouth and brain behind the armour) or whether each 'eye' is actually a head in its own right with its own brain. What do you think of this MOC? And is this a one- or two-headed creature?
