Thanks! I had most of them conceptualised before assembling the parts, but swapped some of the heads around before settling on the combos pictured. Indian buffalo headdress from various Western sets/packs from 1997 to 2002: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=30113 Thank you. That's exactly what I was going for: at once sweet and sinister.

Thanks! http://www.brickfortress.com/ I reviewed them here: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=73584entry1527866 Note that they expanded their range of colours a bit since I wrote the review. Hope that helps.

Goblin raiding party based on the S13 CMF. As you can see, the centre front one is the S13 goblin except with a cleaver instead of a sword and short legs, not long ones. Back row from left: Thug, Sniper, Soldier Front row from left: Barbarian, Boss, Stabber Questions? Comments? Call to arms?

I MOC minifigures, so will gladly M&M parts from different ones. That said, if TLG has created a minifigure that exactly matches a concept I have in mind and that I can't think of a way of improving, I'll use TLG's version. As for storing spare parts, it depends. If it's a collectible minifigure or a sealed polybag, I'll leave it in its packet. I keep a set of the CMF promo sheets for reference. If a minifigure is from a set and I don't see an obvious way that its parts can be used except as part of that minifig, I'll store it assembled. All other parts, I store loose. Body parts are sorted by what they are (standard heads, torso assemblies, standard leg assemblies) and then by colour. Other parts are sorted by form, function and design, e.g. shields/round/small/dwarf design, shields/tear-drop/large/knight, sword/great, sword/short.

Dungeons & Dragons mind flayer
AmperZand replied to AmperZand's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
Cagast is right: http://brickset.com/sets/71008-7/Alien-Trooper -
"Mind flayers, also called illithids, are the scourge of sentient creatures across countless worlds. Psionic tyrants, slavers and interdimensional voyagers, they are insidious masterminds that harvest entire races for their own twisted ends. Four tentacles snake from their octopus-like heads, flexing in hungry anticipation when sentient creatures come near." Dungeons & Dragons, 5th edition Monster Manual, page 221. Questions? Comments? Obeisance to your betentacled overlords?

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 13 Rumours and Discussion
AmperZand replied to just2good's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I picked up 6 S13s in Kingston upon Thames today. The price is the same as S12, i.e. £2.49 each. I got: hotdog guy alien female cyclops king evil wizard goblin I wanted a samurai too, but got tired of feeling packets surrounded by loads of gormless Christmas shoppers. I'm getting a sealed box of 60 in January anyway, so will get her then. -
WHS in Kingston had three boxes of S13 as of this afternoon. I managed to pick up 6 minifigures: hotdog guy alien king female cyclops evil wizard goblin I would have liked to have picked up a samurai but got tired of feeling packets and don't particularly like WHS. I'll be buying a sealed box of 60 from John Lewis in the new year anyway, so will get her then. I'll be keeping most of the 60 and selling the rest. If you're in the UK and interested in any S13s at cost (+P&P at cost), please PM me your wants list. Some are already reserved (including by fellow EBers), so please be quick.

While I really like BW's parts, I agree that they're sometimes too elaborate or detailed, that is, not very Lego-y. Thanks. Much appreciated.

In the Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) roleplaying game, each player selects a class for his character. A class isn't a socio-economic stratum; it's more akin to a profession or a calling. It defines the things at which the character excels. At the beginning of 2014, D&D celebrated its 40th anniversary and a few months ago, the 5th edition (5e) of the advanced game was released. Here are the 5e classes as represented by minifigs from my display collection. Apologies for the rubbish photography. Barbarians Bard Clerics Druids Fighters Monks Paladins Rangers Rogues Sorcerers Warlocks Wizards Comments, questions?

JL told me they wouldn't be selling S13 CMFs until the official street date of 1 Jan at the earliest, and maybe not until a week or more into Jan. I haven't seen S13 CMFs anywhere. WHS don't seem to have them yet. I don't think The Entertainer will be carrying them at all because of the inclusion of the evil wizard. Come to think of it, they probably won't carry them because of the paleontologist either. As for S12s, I'm still seeing them all over: Martin's Newsagents, Sainsbury's etc.

BrickWarriors Dec 2014 - Lizardmen!
AmperZand replied to Thrash's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
Those heads are great! I've already ordered some in dark red and green. Useful for a whole host of different fantasy (or specifically, D&D) races: lizardmen, dragonborns, half-dragons, yuan-ti and maybe even kobolds. I feel a MOC or two brewing. The body armour, sword and shield remind me of those used by lizardmen in Warhammer by Games Workshop. -

I prefer moulded dragons to brick-built ones. I do have the viking dragon from 7017 in my display collection, but my favourite is the dark red dragon from set 7093 released in 2007: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=Dragon01 . It best captures what I think a dragon should look like. I'm in two minds about Smaug. It's certainly impressive but I like quadruped dragons more than bipedal ones.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 13 Rumours and Discussion
AmperZand replied to just2good's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Restaurants sometimes hire people to stand outside their establishment wearing costumes of the kind of food for sale: hotdogs, hamburgers, chicken or whatever. It's supposed to attract customers, so HDG is advertising hotdogs. I've only ever seen that kind of advertising first hand in the US, but I'm sure it's sometimes done in the UK too and perhaps other places. -
How to clean smoke damaged LEGO?
AmperZand replied to Agent Fusion's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I would never use a Magic Eraser on LEGO. Magic Eraser contains a mild scouring agent. Sure, it will clean LEGO but you could very easily abrade the surface, dulling your LEGO. I don't know about BBQs, but I do know from experience about cigarette smoke. I live in an old building and when my neighbour downstairs smokes, it wafts to where my collection is displayed. At first, I was very concerned, but it turns out the smell goes away by itself over time. I found something similar with some parts I bought on BrickLink that stank of cigarette smoke. I washed them in soap and water, dried them and put them on display. Within a couple of days the stench had completely disappeared and I have a very acute sense of smell. -
I can see why the three different birds are sold together, but I wonder if it wouldn't be better if they were sold separately. I can imagine, for example, that Toronto baseball fans and supporters of the varsity teams at Johns Hopkins would be interested in the blue jay but not the other two and wouldn't buy the set because of them.

How to clean smoke damaged LEGO?
AmperZand replied to Agent Fusion's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I'm not being flippant, but have you tried soap (washing up liquid) and water? I haven't tried to remove soot from LEGO, but I'm guessing that that would work for everything except stickered parts and fabric (e.g. capes and sails). -
REVIEW: 71008 LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 13
AmperZand replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Fangy, Thanks so much for another great review and fabulous set of photographs! You make taking pictures of minifigures look easy but I know from experience that it's actually pretty hard. Can you please convey our thanks to the CMF design team for all the excellent work they do? I know we gripe and grumble quite a bit, but actually we genuinely appreciate the talent and commitment required to bring these guys to fruition. I for one hope that the CMF line never ends. As long as there are Castle/fantasy minifigures in the mix, you can bet I'll be getting them. Amps- 104 replies

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 13 Rumours and Discussion
AmperZand replied to just2good's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Wait! The designers are repurposing a Green Goblin's hood/ears for a... goblin?? Don't get me wrong: I really like this minifigure, it's my favourite of the series. But clever re-use of the Green Goblin's hood/ears piece, it ain't. I'm glad that TLG re-issues licensed parts in the CMF line such as the Princess Leia/forest maiden hair piece. It means you can get hold of those pieces without getting scalped on BrickLink or EBay. If you don't mind third party parts, BrickForge have been doing a saw for a while. I've had a Castle era carpenter in my display collection for some time. -

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 13 Rumours and Discussion
AmperZand replied to just2good's topic in Special LEGO Themes
The female cyclops is certainly more light-hearted than earlier CMFs based on Greek mythology. I can see how that might annoy some people. A horde of the male cyclopes is a credible force, but a gaggle of the female cyclopes would look farcical. If the lipstick and eyelashes bug you that much, you can always get rid of them. Removing print is pretty straightforward. Sans make-up, the female cyclops shouldn't look any less serious than the cave-woman and most AFOLs seem to agree that she isn't overly comical. -

Actually, there were but many of the stories of fighting samurai women are blurred conflations of fact and fiction. The few female combatants from pre-Meiji Restoration Japan that we know anything about with certainty almost always used naginata (a kind of polearm) and bows, not swords like the S13 samurai.
