LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 25. Rumors and discussion
AmperZand replied to Robert8's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Excellent! Thank you very much for that @Grover. The statistician and AFOL in me find this brilliant 😆 I agree that ideally, the n should be higher, and perhaps more importantly, as diverse as possible. Assuming that all CMFs are not produced in a single factory, there might be slight production differences across factories resulting in weight differences. A sufficiently diverse sample would de-risk the possibility of boxes from a certain factory being unrepresentative. What would be phenomenal would be if someone created an online CMF S25 tool that estimated which CMF one had from its weight. The output would be a probability of it being each of the 12. For example, you enter 19.55g and the tool tells you there is a 87% chance of it being the Vampire Knight, an 8% chance of it being the Dog Groomer, a 4% chance of being the Goatherd and a combined 1% chance of it being being any other minifigure. If the tool asked the user for feedback. i.e. if its prediction was right each time and, if not, what the right prediction would have been, and gathered those data, the tool could be self-improving. I would create the tool myself but I just don't have the time. I bet such a tool would both impress and disgust the folks at LEGO 😂- 574 replies

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 25. Rumors and discussion
AmperZand replied to Robert8's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Contrary to BrickFanatics, I reckon the weight difference between most of them is likely sufficient that variances in the amount of glue would not prevent you from telling them apart. Admittedly, the weight method doesn’t distinguish between the Mushroom Sprite and the Triceratops Guy, but you may be able to tell them apart from their rattles as the former has lots of small pieces and the latter doesn’t. The Sprinter and Fitness Instructor may also be too close to separate. The rest though should be identifiable. Ultimately, we may need to check the weights of empty boxes to see how consistent they are. I don’t know if anyone did that for the Marvel S2s. It would be interesting to find out.- 574 replies

Yes, indeed! I understand January or February in the UK where I am, and January in Germany and Poland. It’ll likely be £4.50. I reckon that’s a fair price. It may seem expensive compared to CMFs but at least with the magazine minifigures, you know what you’re getting. And it’s cheap compared to the going rate for this minifigure on Bricklink (though the current price is likely to come down with this magazine’s release). -
Maybe, but it could be a June ‘25 release, not ‘24 one, which would explain the lack of leaks. Alternatively, it could be an autumn ‘24 release that’s not billed as a celebration of LGBTness. Instead, it could be a CS set that just happens to include astronauts in the Pride colours which might obviate bans on overtly LGBT symbols in some countries/regions.

None of them are Classic Space unless you count the pink space baby. I'll have to get my hand on that CS space baby. I strongly suspect that the reason none are CS minifigures is that a whole bunch will appear in an Everyone Is Awesome type set but with CS astronauts. The Orion minifigure looks cool as an addition to my fantasy minifigures. I get the source, but it's more mythological than sci-fi.

10497 Galaxy Explorer is set to retire at the end of this year, 2023. Any ideas on how well or badly it sold? If it sold well, that would encourage LEGO to produce more Classic Space sets. If it didn’t, that would augur badly for CS. It’s known that some LEGO designers have a soft spot for CS, but if sales have been below target, they’d have a hard time making the business case for more. Where I am in the southeast of the UK, most LEGO stores are out of stock of 10497 with no prospect of getting more. You can still get it on lego.com gb the last time I checked. How did it sell where you are? Well? badly? Please say where you are when you reply - thanks.

I’m with you in preferring blue and grey CS builds rather than an Everyone Is Awesome type build, not because I’m anti-LGBT (I’m not!) but because I’m a CS fan. I suspect CS would be the direction LEGO would take anyway. It would avoid the set being overtly LGBT and therefore make it less sellable in markets that ban or frown upon the promotion of LGBT such Russia, much of the Middle East, conservative parts of the US and some parents/grandparents buying for kids. If the astronauts were in Everyone Is Awesome colours but the builds were blue and grey, that could just be a CS set, right?
-
Whatever shade it is, I reckon there will be a set or range in due course with a CS spaceman in that colour along with other colours. There may even be an Everyone Is Awesome type set but with CS astronauts. I have no evidence for it, just a hunch.

A forthcoming Monkie Kid set will contain a Classic Space helmet in green.

The CMF goat has plain flanks whereas the old one has some brown printing. The moulds look the same although it’s difficult to be certain. If you want variety in your herd, you can give your CMF goats markings with a Sharpie or some paint. I’ll probably leave mine white though as I already have the old goat. Maybe it’s a female barbarian inspired by Red Sonja. -
If LEGO did a vampire set, it might look something like my MOC/mod below. Note parts and builds were used from various themes and franchises (HP/FB, Marvel, Hidden Side etc). They don't necessarily reflect the source material. For example, I use thestrals as generic, flying undead horses. Happy Halloween!

Probably very hard to get a hold of and if any are available, likely extremely expensive. Supply and demand, right? Image link

Don’t know if this has been mentioned in this thread but a dark purple Classic Spaceman has appeared in a promotional set, DS2023. I’m aware that it’s already possible to assemble a dark purple CS astronaut from existing parts - I have a couple - but this is the first to appear by design.

My understanding - and I can’t substantiate this, it’s just something I heard - is that one of LEGO’s US employees defected to a competitor and LEGO was terrified that they would bring out similar toys ahead of LEGO. So LEGO rushed the release of their Space line in the US. One thing I do know because I remember it at the time is that Space didn’t come out until 1979 in the UK which fits with that. I believe that 1979 was the original worldwide release date.

Marvel Superheroes 2023 - Rumors & Discussion

@SuperSquidman, It looks like the number under the QR code on the base of the box identifies the minifigure: 122R3, 222R3, 322R3, 422R3 etc. (bold and red colour added by me for emphasis). Can you please confirm/deny? If I'm right, which number corresponds to which character? -
[MOC] An Adventuring Tale: the Princess and Sir Frog
AmperZand replied to Aurore's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Great build overall! I especially like the frog statue and the clever angling used in its construction. -
@lenzie's air battalion reminded me that not all armies are terrestrial. Some are aerial, like lenzie's, and some are aquatic like my mine below. This is my army of the evil Sea Lord. I go for variety over uniformity in most of my armies. While I appreciate seeing the uniformed massed ranks of other collectors' armies, that's generally not something I do in my own armies. Apart from a couple of baseplates and a few handheld accessories/weapons that are third party pieces, everything is LEGO. I have repurposed parts from various franchises: Harry Potter, Star Wars, Ninjago and Space Police among others. They should not be considered as having any story/lore connection to their source material. The Sea Lord has a magical staff that allows him to control marine creatures. I realise that sharks, octopuses and so on are amoral in real life. The spirit guardian of the portal is not under the Sea Lord's control. But as he is tied to the archway by eldritch rites and cannot leave, he is left alone by the creatures of the deep.

@lenzie Very cool! Your colour coordination is exceptional - really pops out I have a couple of heroes riding pegasi: one from Greek mythology (Bellerophoron?) and one more generic fantasy. Perhaps I should post pics.

[MOC] Medieval castle at Ghent "Gravensteen"
AmperZand replied to Imano's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I've been there and can attest to the accuracy of your build. Very well done! -
Excellent! @danth Did you require any additional pieces or were they only parts left over after making the smallest ship? If no additional parts were needed, LEGO should have thought of something like this!

Me too but it should be readily available on the secondary market and maybe even directly from LEGO. She’s unique in my army, but someone with a lot of disposable income could army build her of course. Would be expensive. Currently, each mutant Stitch CMF is £3.50 - so that would be the cost of just her arms. I haven’t looked up the cost of the other parts (I already had them) but probably not cheap. -
@Rjbricks, Thanks :~) If by army building, you mean multiples of the same minifigure, I mostly don’t do it myself, but do like seeing the armies of others. There’s something impressive about lots of soldiers in the same livery. It’s true in real life, too; massed ranks of soldiers make an impression. For older AFOLs like me, there’s another reason. I remember when minifigures were first released. There were only a few per set, so they were hard to get a hold of. Creating massed ranks was practically impossible for most LEGO enthusiasts. And if there were any collectors who had armies, you generally wouldn’t know about them as there was no internet back then through which to share pictures, and few conventions. The reason that I go for variety in my LEGO ‘armies’ probably has something to do with my other major hobby: D&D. Unlike wargames, D&D emphasises individuality, distinct characters as heroes. As I came back to LEGO as an adult through D&D (D&D -> fantasy toys -> LEGO), I think of minifigures as their own heroes and villains.

Mutant Stitch's double arms in red could come in handy - pun entirely intended! - for fantasy minifigures such as my Demon Queen.
