"I know Lord Chauncey a little. You can talk with him once we arrive in Xu." Hybros frowned. It seemed things weren't going the way Guffington had anticipated, let alone with his own hired heroes. Hybros lifted his hand that was resting on the blade's pommel, and crossed his arms. He nodded his head at Torc. "Your dragon there looks just as ready to fight. It is my instinct to defend myself and those who hire m-- ehehm, my friends. Guffington may not reveal his true intentions right away, but that is in his character as much as are being honest and trustworthy. Perhaps there are many reasons why they call him 'Great'. I know Guffington and I know these things to be true. If you do not trust him, then trust me. After what we faced at the Grotto and back in Dastan together..." He trailed off, satisfied he had made his point. "As long as the job is done."

Who said they were mischievous? In the limited canon for them, I don't think that was implied. That being said, I can see how limited the canon really is. There's only so much you can do to characterize an entire race with one PC... I really need to get back to hosting.

"Hm, I do remember Lord Chauncey..." Hybros looked troubled at the mention of old gods, but didn't have a chance to expand as an argument broke out between Hoke and Arthur. Hybros steps between Hoke and Guffington, beside Felix, glaring up at the dragoon. "That is enough." He rested a hand on his sword. "I do not know much about old gods or witches, but I trust Guffington more than I trust anyone in Eubric. He has seen the world and knows more than you can imagine. He has also done more good for Eubric and the world than any of us put together. I also wonder what these artifacts are for, but I do not believe Guffington to be stupid or malignant. And this man's last act will not be to leave a malevolent legacy. Whatever the plan is, I trust it will be for the better. We were hired for a job and I intend to complete it. Will you?"

Jinnipher nods. "I'm getting really tired of watching heroes get eaten and spat out again. Let's finish this." She stood in the back row with her shield raised.
-
Hybros rose from his rest and looked out over the bow to the morning sun. "Hm, well I am disappointed that we will not see Legonardo, but this temple does sound interesting." Hybros recalled his Chi Monk training. He looked down at the Jade Sea, a familiar sight from the last time he rode in an airship. He stomach turned at the thought of returning to the land of his past failure, so he looked back towards the deck. "Guffington, erm... there is something else. I am getting the feeling that there is even more to this journey than you have already let on. I do trust that you have a plan, but I wonder if you knew about the rebellion in Dastan, or Natasha, or the dragon we would have to fight all ahead of time. This ember..." he held out the shimmering stone with a gloved hand. "It allowed me to see into the past. Way back into the past. In one of the visions were three witches, one of which I met when I found my people." He cast his eyes to the ground wondering for moment how to phrase his question. "Vipera said you may know about these witches, and if so, they must fit into whatever plan you have laid out for these artifacts. I know you too well to think that they are mere gifts, heheh."

Jinnipher tumbles out from the creature's maw after Kiri is devoured. She brushes herself off with eyebrows furled in anger. "Fine," she says in reply to Boris. "But this thing is going to pay." She swings the Ignis Blade from the front row with a vengeance.
-
Hybros waves farewell to Vipera, and peers over the railing of the ship for once last glance at Dastan. The expansive continent was impressive, but its people were troubled. He hoped that they had made some impact on the country's future for the better. Hybros nodded. "I am hoping Legonardo can direct us to such places. It has been a while since I was last in Xu, and I did not leave in the best of conditions, heheh... Who knows, perhaps Sham, Scheherezade's son, is still there selling his wares." As Hoke finds a corner to sleep in, Hybros unpacks his own bedroll. "I think we could all do with some rest." With that, he laid down on the deck and stared up into the sky until his eyes grew heavy. He made a note to speak to Guffington about the witches come morning.

Huh. I think that's the first time I've actually used my shovel since I bought it with my first ten gold.
-
Hybros holds the ember in his gloved hand, admiring it's glow while it was still cooled. The light gave away his expression of awe, whatever he had seen had been incredible. "I am... ready to go." He nods at Vipera, then the cavern's dragons. "I hope this is not the last time you will set eyes on us worms." Loot: Arthur: Ruby, 25 gold Purpearl: Garnet. 25 gold Hoke: 75 gold, Gold Bar Hybros: 75 gold, Gold Bar After leaving the cavern, Hybros uses his shovel to loosen some rocks, then down and produces an empty potion bottle from his bag of holding. He scoops up some of the reddish tan sand, caps the bottle, and hands it to Felix. "I owe you this. Trust me... eheh."

"Look kiddo, if you don't want the battle to go like last time, the only one who should be attacking that walking pile of bones is me. Let me go first and take its hit."
-
Almost exactly what I thought - I pictured Dry Bones.
-
"Damn! Well I guess we have no choice but to take this monster down, or leave here poor. Not that I mind a good fight." Jinnipher drew The Beheader, but realized that the vorpal blade wouldn't do much to the undead enemy. "Hey you, Torald. Considering how easily those spirits took you down last time, I think I'd better handle the big guy this time. Let me borrow that Ignis Blade and I can take him down quickly."
-
I think Lind was saying that the same assertion could be made for Gabriel. Is he really even close to her, though?
-
"Fine. I'll take those gloves now. Here are four bones for 200 gold. I was just telling Terry here how much I hate backstabbers and double-crossers, so think twice before pulling a fast one on us, sweetheart."
-
Hybros nods, closes his eyes, and begins to follow Vipera. "I hope you have heard me, dragons. This ember is not a reminder of what the world once was, but also what it can be. The people of Dastan need it, and they need you as you need them. Do not forget this..."

Posting this here to avoid all-OOC posts. So... I can take a hat and then turn in four bones to get 200 gold?
-
OOC: I don't quite understand... Are we supposed to trade all of our bones for one piece of loot? Or is there more loot/gold as determined by the amount of bones we surrender after choosing the loot now? Can I turn in one bone now and get a hat and then turn in three for 150 gold after? Jinnipher looks over the loot. "Hmm, maybe those gloves could be sold for a pretty penny..."

Hybros lowered his weapons, his ears attuned to the voice from above. Not only the sound but the mystical presence was familiar, unmistakable, even. He had met this ancient dragon before. He called out to the depths of the cave. "Ancient dragon! We have met before, long ago in Uland. Surely you recognize the power of this weapon?" He held up Zoot's Reaper. It whispered in acknowledgement of the foe it had once defeated. "I am not a fool or a stranger to the power of dragons. I have defeated you before, and now Firestomach, and have met many others in between, including five partners of great warriors and our two guides with us here. I know that the wisdom and power of a dragon goes far beyond any other being, but I also know that they are not invincible and immune to the world's troubles. My own people did not see our world for many ages. They did not flee from it, but now like you they are hesitant to return in fear of what it has become. "I would like to show them a world that is better than when they left it, but I feel powerless to make a change alone. A half-century may be a blink of an eye to you, but that is a long time for most of us 'worms' to be wandering Olegaia in search of our purpose. It took me that long to find my people and return them to their own realm, but I did not do it alone. And I have not finished yet. My purpose is not fulfilled. "You are right, the world is in turmoil. You do not need to look far outside of this cave to see that. But has it ever not been? Wars and sickness and corruption and hatred go farther back than my people who roamed long ago. You say the great races have vanished, but all I see in here are cowards, too scared and too few and too weak to make a change. This does not seem so great to me. The 'worms' out there are the ones trying to make a change, to make the world a better place. I have realized that one cannot do it alone. It takes many to make a change, and those who stand by and let the bad parts of the world continue only add to the problem. "The only way to solve these problems and make the world a better place is to unite. The people of Dastan are divided and conflicted. They hoped that once the war was over, the dragons would return and they would help rebuild Dastan to what it once was. They have not. Your faith in the people out there was shaken, but an effort to change that is being made. Yet you linger and rot and let that which is least important consume you. Your piles of treasure shine, but does that offer you comfort in this darkness, knowing that the world outside is crumbling? "You can make a difference. The great wisdom and power that your race possess is much needed out there. If you linger here, your prediction that your race will fade really will come true. But if you get out there and unite with the people that are actually trying to change this world for the better, everyone will thrive. Then our people will all truly be 'great'. "So let me ask you, ancient dragon, which will you choose: life or death? I choose life." Hybros uses a Health Core on Bellerai.

Jinnipher rolled her eyes. "You really know everything, don't you kid? Maybe you should go talk to Lind Whisperer, you'll find him with his nose buried in a book about nonsense. Then you can both share how you've seen the world for what it truly is in the two decades either of you have been alive."
-
Hybros takes another look around and sees that Hoke has actually resisted the dragon's infernal breath enough to stay standing. Grinning, he downs a Remedy and uses another on Torc. Same BO.

Jinnipher shrugged, and pocketed the opal. "I'll take one of those hats that our employer promised." "Who said anything about alone? I have all the entertainment I need with my work and watching you struggle." She winked. "Life is much simpler without looking out for the knife to your back as well as the one in front you. In this business, you learn that the hard way." Her grin turned to a grimace and her gaze drifted, lost in some distant memory.
