Hybros frowned at the mention of the Golden Crusade. He remembered the unease he felt around Heweyrt. "The Golden Crusade helped with something very important to me, and we just met their leader in Dastan. What do you think of them?" "Perhaps you are right. It is Guts, after all, heheh. Dyric is reliable as well, though I do not know the gnome."

"So you're a true hero, then?" Jinnipher frowned. "Usually one doesn't have to proclaim that of themselves to make it true. What great and noble deeds have you performed?" Her voice was filled with an airy sarcasm.

Jinnipher hands over the coin and winks. "Longer than you might think, but maybe not as long as you gramps." She giggled at her own joke. "You're lucky to have lived as long as you have, for a human. Considering retirement any time soon?" It was a snarky remark, but there was no malice in her voice.

Hybros nodded his head lazily, eyes nearly closed. It felt good to relax for once. "We are helping the Great Guffington retrieve some items from around the world before he goes to Etheria to... well..." He paused a moment with sadness in his voice. "I think he will spend the rest of his life there. He is a good friend of mine." Another awkward pause. "Ehehm... we just came from Dastan, and there are others in the High Kingdoms and Baltorak." He turned to Purpearl. "I wonder if they are faring any worse than we are." Again replying to Yu Shu, "What is your story? I think you mentioned that you were gone from this place for a while but came back to train?"

Jinnipher approaches the old man, mug in hand. "150 gold for the Cloak of Necrotic Shielding."

"Perhaps you are right, hehe." Hybros gingerly dips an already-bare toe into the water before removing his gear and sliding in, careful not go in too deep. Besides not being a natural swimmer, his stature lent to the possibility to drown. He nods to Purpearl and company before directing his gaze to Yu Shu. "Your Master Jin is a skilled fighter. It must take great patience to get to beat him in your combat training, heheh."

The doors to the Hall slammed open and Jinnipher entered with her usual long and purposeful strides. She glanced at the quest board, and apparently uninterested, made her way to the bar. She ordered a mead, chugged it, and ordered another. As she sipped she looked around the saloon, her dark brown eyes finally settling on a boy in knight's armor. "They just keep getting younger and younger, don't they?" She shook her head at Scheherzade.

Hybros sheathes his weapon. "Heheh, well it has been a long journey. Hoke, I believe he is right. If you wish to continue you may, but I think I will try to relax at the hot springs."

OOC: I think the idea of focusing is a bit broken to begin with. I can just out-focus the opponent and become immune to damage, or I guess vice versa since he started with more than we did. There was a similar concept for a Jedi dueling game a few years ago in the Wargames/Mafia subforum, if you're looking for ideas. Hybros stands his ground and focuses again.

I enjoyed #141 quite a bit. It was pretty straightforward and other than the unavoidable delays I think you improved on everything since #118, Flipz. The first battle was needlessly hard for level 1's, but you clearly remedied that for the rest of the quest. The elemental battle was a bit random but the XP wasn't unwelcome, though the enemies were also a bit tough in that one as well. I think that would've been a good place to use passive specials that determine the enemies' levels based on the heroes'. It was great to see Mac again, as well as the Tritech charcters. Using other QM's NPCs is always a highlight for me. It was weird that Sakurai just disappeared without an explanation. Kiri was an interesting and unique character. I also liked the group that we had. I hope you had fun on your first quests, MysticModulus and Alfadas. I think I could've made a better attempt to have Jinnipher interact with your characters but at the same time they were never really "out there" and there weren't many opportunities to talk. I'd be interested to see them develop more as they participate in more quests. Boris is cool. Level-headed and somewhat religious, though the chip on his shoulder shows from time to time. I like that Boris was able to choose to heal during battles in this quest - I feel that's not something that happens often with higher level quests because you can just pop a potion instead. We got lucky with the healing rolls this time, but I'm still a strong advocate for boosting Clerics' healing abilities (i.e. no "No Heal" rolls). I also like Kheyli a lot and I think her and Jinnipher could get along pretty well together. Though her (K-Nut's) activity fell off towards the end. Overall a really enjoyable quest. Thanks for hosting Flipz, and thanks Pala for running a few rounds. Oh, and how could I forget Terry? I quite like his character too, and interacting with his was fun. He and Jinnipher are interesting foils. She thinks he's too inexperienced, and he criticizes her skepticism. He's got something to show for it too, even if she refuses to recognize it.

Jinnipher crossed her arms, though she couldn't hide her grin at her success. She may have left Eubric for a few years, but she still knew the streets like the back of her hand. "Well that wasn't so hard. But listen here, doc. Ever consider that the Bonapartes want what's best for everyone? Maybe they thought your science experiments were dangerous. I've been away from Eubric for a while so I don't know about corruption, but at least we're not being attacked by pirates." She looked out at the setting sun. "As for a visit, maybe another time. I think it's high time for a mead." She raised a hand in parting. "So long. I'll see the rest of you back in the Hall." She let her eyes linger on each of the other five heroes for a moment each, then turned to depart.

"Yu Shu." Hybros bowed his head. "There is more than one were-lion around here, it seems... eheh. You would not happen to be related to Master Kiga, would you?" Turning to Jin, "I am no novice with my blades, either, heh."

Hybros tipped his hat while doing a small bow. "We are. I am Hybros and this is Hoke. Which fighting style were you practicing? I once trained under a warrior monk from these parts. I am eager to see how his teaching matches up to his homeland's, heheh."

Jinnipher shrugs. "I have yet to find out about these Ji Pei myself, but if they have any intention to use the airships for anything but transport, then I think we have a problem with who is really policing the Crystalline. The Bonapartes can't do their jobs if ships can just fly over checkpoints without cargo inspections." "I'd like to meet whoever is in charge of overseeing air transport." She nodded pointedly to Dr. Ralph. "Now let's see... this should work." She traced a long slender finger along the alleyways of Eubric imprinted on the map.

Hybros watches the combat intently. He murmurs to Hoke, "I wonder why they are moving so slowly. I have never seen combat training that does not mimic real fighting speed."

Jinnipher nods to Mac upon his departure, then looks at the map. "Well, a small delivery mission can't hurt. Even though I am suspicious of the intent to reinforce your airships... Not planning to build a rivaling navy to the Bonapartes, are we?"

"I will join you Hoke, if that is alright." A little rest and relaxation wouldn't be bad to cool rising tempers among the party. "Though I am interested in the tea as well, heheh. When would those ceremonies begin?" Hybros tipped his hat to Master Kiga.

Hybros' head spun at the mention of Old Gods. Were they people or merely emotions? He was always confused when the subject came up, yet he knew that Gerald and his employees, as well as Chauncey, were heavily invested in their research. "Lord Chauncey." Hybros tipped his hat. A friend of Guffington's was a friend of his; luckily Chauncey did not have an Eye of the Beholder when the heroes' investigation came to blows. "It is... good to see you again. How have you been since we last saw each other at the manor?" "This is Arthur, Miirym, Hoke and Torc. I believe you know everyone else..." he glanced at Purpearl. "...Heheh. I am sure you already know why we are here."

"Last I checked you wouldn't be able to build those new places or play with your toys if it weren't for the Bonapartes keeping Eubric from becoming a pirate den." Jinnipher idly flipped a gold coin; one from the reward pouch. "So Eubric is being fought over by the families again, what else is new? New players, old game." She pocketed the coin and stretched. "Well, I'm not usually one to pass up experience a job, but first I want to know what you plan on doing with those bone fragments. They've already caused enough trouble."

Jinnipher pats Kheyli on the back. "See? Like I said, safe and sound." She looked over at Kheyli. A bit exhausted herself, the Moon Elf was happy to take the 200 gold without a sassy quip. She addresses the newcomers with a raised eyebrow. "Ji Pei? I've never heard of them. I assume the Bonapartes are still running the defense-related things around here?"

A Berserker can change targets as soon as their current target is defeated. So yes, stating a conditional action in the case of the target's defeat is fair.
