Well the way Zepher's been doing it for me with the Bladerang is that the dice is rolled for assassination for the target enemy only. His reasoning was that the Assassin's description says "1/6 of killing the target", which makes sense. Sandy?
-
It should be an accessory (artifact). It works the same as an artifact in all normal circumstances, so why not? Besides the fact that carrying a horse around with you is unrealistic... Sandy, are you rolling for Jess' assassination for every enemy she hits (with the whip), or only the one she targets?

Good luck finding anyone that's tolerant of you. Certainly! Merp. -
Nice, Zepher, I was wondering when you'd get a new picture. I had actually been playing around with some parts to make Boomingham as well. I used two scabbard pieces on the same side, with a light pearl grey and a dark pearl grey longsword from the LotR sets. Like you described a few times, he wears them both on the same side, one above another. I'm guilty of this. I never played it in-character, but Hybros just carries his helmet (when equipped). Realistically it would be too big for his head and it wouldn't really wear one to begin with.

Heroica RPG - Quest #39: The Great Guffington

Seeing that it was up to him to finish the battle, Hybros attacked Uma twice from the front row. -
Yay for working it out. Obviously they can with those special-stealer effects of yours! (Like Violetta I mean).

Good news, I think I solved the problem. This time I got an "Invalid URL" error, so I edited my hosts file with Flickr's IP address and the web URL. Checking the site again, it worked. And yes, I did go through all the necessary stuff before, like clearing the cache, refreshing, etc. etc. Thanks Rick for bringing that idea up, and thanks all of you for trying to help.

Thanks, I'm glad you liked the side quest. You two were the first "Friends of Dragons". I was surprised at how well a level 19 Paladin worked with a Level 7 Rogue in that battle. Although Galen got knocked out once, he held his own. I was trying to make him seem fair and noble, for a bad guy. He wasn't the type to run away or panic while under the heroes' judgement, but to accept whatever they chose for him. It's all about sending a message. Well you could have stole Xander's. Geez, sounds like you had an awesome last couple of months. And again, thanks for sticking with it. And now I don't think you're allowed to eat dinner for four to five weeks, at least while Portia Poodle is alive.

I think this would make the most sense. We really need to establish how each effect affects both heroes and enemies. Except there were two in Quest 7.

Merp. Ernie Elephant reporting for duty. Funny thing, I'm a dock worker again. Hinckley God must think I'm a dock worker in real life. Also, I sleep with a rabbit. You wonder how that works, but let's remember to be PC here (woot acronyms). Slenderman? -
A question I asked myself all the time.

I had considered it, but growing a pair of wings isn't exactly realistic... though who says they have to be grown? I may or may not decide to create one, but I think I'll have to talk to Scubacarrot...

I will definitely keep this in mind for any future quests I host, thanks for sharing. Thanks Chromeknight. I guess that is just my style, to drop less. I tried to have more consumables (even though it wasn't that much), and I threw in stuff like the treasure chests in the fort to give you all something extra. I guess I just don't want to make everyone overpowered, though I tried to drop more unique items because of the length of the quest. The only item I regret dropping was the Lance. I did it for no other reason than the fact that we didn't have any in Heroica yet, and it turns out that it was pretty useless to Cronk. Thanks Pandora, I'm really glad you liked the quests. Now, a few other things lingering on my mind. Did anyone from Quest 29 notice that "James", the translator in Dragonclaw, looked exactly like XX? This was complete coincidence, but I think to myself that it might as well have been XX, since he was already in Dragonclaw trying to blow up the marketplace just the day before. He could've been in disguise. Also, some things on planning: yeah, it took a lot. I think Zepher brought up the idea to Brickdoctor and I when I PMd them about choosing players for Quests 17, 18, and 19. We agreed, so this must have been sometime in late fall/early winter last year. In that time, we had no less than 7 PM threads between the three of us (they start to not work after about 6 pages in), not including any PMs between us and the players or Sandy. And if we looked at our original plan (planned out in 7 phases) and compared it to the final result, I don't think there would be many similarities.

Hybros suddenly remembers the Hourling's transformation, and despite his lust for blood he steps to the back row, attacking with the Clock Cog and then retrieving his Bladerang. -
50 gold for every player with a "yay", from Hybros' stash.

Yay.

Heroica RPG - Quest #39: The Great Guffington
JimBee replied to Zepher's topic in The Heroica Archive
The armor took its toll, but Hybros hardly felt a thing. He was so focused on killing the enemy as he reaped another soul. The battle had taken a hold of him, as if it were the only thing that mattered. He turned his attention to Uma, the last remaining enemy. He began to charge at it from the front row, forgetting, in his blood-lust, that he would be knocked out if he took damage. -
Like I said before:
-
Well clearly there is a problem with balance since we're discussing it...
-
I didn't say it was... and by substantial, I meant roleplaying incidences. I just noticed that he didn't really interact with other characters so much as state his battle actions. And I'm not saying it's a necessary thing to, some people play more for battles than roleplaying. My feedback wasn't, and isn't meant to be critical, just suggestions or things I've noticed. @Foog: I agree, leaving the quest would have been a little overboard for roleplaying.

I thought this was already in place. I don't want it to seem like we're just picking on knights, and of course it should carry over to any class. ALOD should apply to all, key word 'at least'. As Doc pointed out, cost is not as big of a factor as you might think. Only 160 gold to bring his SP up to 16. And if cost were a cap to SP, this rule would be a safeguard. And we can't guarantee that another hero won't get Mythril, or decide to upgrade. Knifk is already at 11 SP. Right.
-
Yes, I object, too. In addition to what others have said (especially BD), this really eliminates any desire for someone new to join as a knight. If a defense of 2 is as high as they can get (not including artifacts), then the class is pretty undesirable. I'm all for creative QMs, like Peppermint M said, but this a game mechanic that has obviously become too powerful. Yes, there are creative ways around it, but I think they limit what a QM can do with enemies. Designing an enemy specifically to take down someone like Docken could be considered unfair, and maybe it even takes away from the quest because everyone is so focused on this little thing. Here's a proposition: to limit how much a shield-bearing class can upgrade. This would not affect anyone with a shield currently, but for the future. For example, Knights levels 1-5 can have a max SP of 4, 6-10 can have a max of 6, 11-15 max of 8, 16-20 max of 10, 21-25 max of 15, and so on, limiting the SP of a shield as necessary when players actually get that strong. This would only be for actual shield upgrades, and not include any artifacts (or maybe it should who knows). I think this is a good solution because as is, the problem is that shield classes are only powerful in comparison to other classes. Docken can outlast anyone, and win a battle even if it means his whole team is knocked out. This calls for stronger enemies, which can more easily defeat his teammates while still leaving him with a relatively good defense. However, as time goes on heroes will be more powerful and the difference in strengths will be less. Besides, it would cost 1600 gold to upgrade the Mythril Shield just once. Thoughts?

Like Brickdoctor said, we wanted an arid, windy, mountainous wasteland (Sandy pretty much hit that on the head when she was answering questions about Dastan in the Library). I had Fallout: New Vegas in mind when it came to environment. And because of the climate and lack of water, a lot of the population was the survivor-type... living off the land and such, although they did live pretty richly. I agree with these solutions. You don't have to make game-breaking enemies to damage someone like Docken, there are other ways, like you mentioned. However, it is not always possible/reasonable to use these effects. For example, the enemy wouldn't make sense inflicting a certain effect, or a condition wanders too far outside the rule parameters. Sandy, you argue that allowing at least 1 damage regardless of row/SP is unfair to those who have invested in SP, but wouldn't simply making SP-piercing enemies be more unfair? Just slapping that ability on takes no SP into account and is a hell of a lot worse than 1 damage. And making enemies stronger would be unfair to other players since they wouldn't stand a chance. Besides, Docken can still last 41 hits. I don't think that it's a huge deal if the "at least 1 damage" rule is used. Personally, I'm all for using those those solutions that Jeb mentioned. But I also think the ALOD rule (coining it now) is good to have.
