Awesome build! I just saw it on Flickr and popped over here to check it out too.

Fantastic work on this. This is very inspiring in the amount of detail you put into a MOC of this size. Far too often it seems that the larger a build is, the less detail it has. This one did not do that, and it really stands out!

Alright, so I've started my challenge 4 build, and it is definitely challenging! I have pretty much half of the base done(not square), and started on the elemental before I move to any of the scenery. This is very hard to accomplish, mostly based on the fact that getting my picture in my head to match the brick for an elemental is harder than I imagined! Looking for advice here: What I have planned is depicting the initial appearance of the elemental(in action), and so the entire town is not destroyed, but the beginnings of destruction are happening. Does that sound like it will fit, or should I really go with all out destruction? -
I am torn on this one....I love the expressions on the yellow figs(they seem more Lego to me), but I have so many Fleshies that I can't let them go to waste. So I use them as Elves and Half-Elves in my builds. Since Elves are usually depicted as fairer skinned and to have an almost ethereal look to them, I use that to explain the "prettier" faces.

Great job on this! And I agree about the cursed sand....we love it, and we hate it.
-
Mikel-great idea and great figs! Angeli- I love yours as well! Like Mikey and Rogueang said, I may need to try my hand at that!
-
Awesome Rogueang! The exterior of the building looks great, but the interior is what really made this build so amazing. You packed in a ton of great story and details into just one building.

Looks very cool! I have never touched Microscale, and that is the part of Challenge 4 I am most worried about! -
Thanks for words guys....I agree after the photgraphy that the river needed more curves. Oh well, next time it'll have to be better. As for the Moon Lord, I am still working out a bit of the backstory, but I see the Kaliphlin Elves to have harnessed the power of the Sun(Desert Folk seem to respect the power of the Sun )So, as part of their heirarchy they have Star Lords, Moon Lords and finally one Sun Lord. As for the LOTR, yeah between the Helm's Deep that I bought in May and then the sets my wife bought me, I now have Uruk-Hai, Shelob's Lair and Gandalf arrives as well. I think Orc Forge is next....But the piece selection and the figs in those sets are fantastic!

Great review, and I find myself agreeing with you pretty much down the line. This is actually the one set that I would probably skip. But, my wife bought it for me as a gift. Now that I built it, I loved the build and it looks great. But, I usually tear apart my sets for pieces and when I finally do for this one, I think that some of the pieces in here will be a great addition to my collection for MOCing

Saladus Al-juhtiv and Aran-Salath journey to Western Reaches of the desert and into the Withered Woods. Home to Aran-Salath and all of the Kaliphlin Elves. Lord Dextruss Flagg has sent them to find all the help they can muster to face the oncoming threat of Viktor Revolword. Aran's brother Kha is a Moon Lord of the Elves, and his help will be needed in the coming struggle. Saladus, Aran-Salath and Kha will be headed to the port town of Starbowl to prepare the town and ready its defenses.... The lanterns that SoT had in his elven build in the forest were perfect, so I stylized these completely after his! Yes, this is a prequel to my Challenge 4 build. I am introducing a new character, Kha the Moon Lord. And our destination is Starbowl, a port city on the Western edges of the desert near the Withered Woods.

Interesting that you have had continual rain....where I'm at Michigan we have had less than half the normal rain in April, May and June. When I mow I am followed by dustclouds. I actually thought it was a Kaliphlin curse, and that since I joined the guild, my yard was destined to become a barren wasteland as well. I have a freebuild that I just finished this morning, and should have pictures posted sometime tonight or tomorrow at the latest. EDIT*****Ok it is posted The Moon Lord Kha I am introducing a new character who will play a prominent role in Challenge 4, and brother to Aran-Salath(the 'elven witch' from Challenge 3) -
Yet another entertaining issue of Historica's only news source! Thanks for the link by the way

Great build Ecc! This is a very impressive entrance to parts of Mitgardia. Perhaps Viktor will think twice before attacking....probably not, he has no scruples
-
Great build Mikey! Like someone else said, the daily activities of medieval life adds a lot to the build as well. @ZC: You may have started a new trend with all of the gatehouses popping up!
-
That can be a tough one, and not my strongpoint. A couple of our guil leaders(SoT and DC) are great at furnishings that feel real and lived in, so I would suggest studying some of their builds for inspiration
-
Good Luck dG! The build looks great, and the color choices are perfect. With all of these free builds, you just might single handedly ensure Avalonia has the most points! I have to start posting....

Guilds of Historica Introduction/General Discussion Thread

With all of the other challenges the size limit has been just that, a limit. I would imagine that this one is the same, in fact I am planning on doing a non-rectangular base that would not be an exact 48x48 so I hope that is the case -
Cool build....when I saw soccerkid ask about the Uruk in the tree, I had to scroll back and look for him!

Congrats! I think my wife wanted to get me Helm's Deep, but I ruined that by buying it last month. I had been stashing some cash since December when they announced that set. Oh well, they did great picking these out. And I agree....my wife jokes a bit about the hobby, but she keeps supporting my habit and never has to worry about a gift! -

I must've been good this year.... I got home from work about 9pm last night and my wife and all 4 kids were up waiting for me to give me a Father's Day gift. I had no clue they were doing it, since I usually request not to get any gifts from anyone. The best part is, my wife said my 5 year old was directing them all as to which sets would be best! -

Great looking build deGothia! Very good composition to the build. @Kabel: Not sure what those beasts are called in Mitgardia, but be careful not to gut one for a meal. I've heard they smell worse on the inside, and I thought they smelled bad on the outside

This will be exciting! I have a free build going that I was hoping I might be able to tie into this challenge, but I was way off I guess! I will finish that up, and use the story of it to tie into the next build I guess. I have some ideas already brewing for this now. Let's have another strong showing in this one and see if we can take the lead back from Avalonia. I am ready to step up my game from the last challenge where I was a bit disappointed with what I produced. I will definitely do my best here to earn us some points.
