  1. Awesome...I added you as a contact on Flickr now. I can relate, I just came out of my "Dark Age" last January as well. I still had a plastic tub of bricks from when I was a kid. But what got me started was buying a few Star Wars sets for my boys who were 3 and 5 at the time. I ended up getting myself a few sets as well, and now I'm hooked again. Of course, I had to give my wife fair notice that her husband was going totally nerd on her. She looked at and me said, you've already been there. I guess I knew that though.
  2. CptMugWash- You type too quick and beat me to it! I was just saying the same thing. The Kaliphlin guild is really massing some great builders here. Mikel- That castle looks great! I don't recognize your username, and see you just signed up on here this week. Do you have a link to Flickr, MOCpages or Brickshelf, etc...? I'd love to see some more of your work!
  3. Very Nice! That's one of those things I've always wanted to tackle...but I'm chicken
  4. Geof, thank you for the correspondence. It's a shame Dextruss had to take off so quickly. The Nähtamatu would have loved to send some "protection" for him. May the sands speed his return!
  5. Very cool! The details really make this stand out!
  6. Awesome! That is a great embassy....this one will be tough to beat!
  7. That looks very good. I like the contrast from the lush Avalonian landscape to the harsh desert.
  8. Awesome! That is totally how I pictured Nocturnus when I read about it.
  9. Nice embassy, I like the water fountains on each point of the star. Of course the Kaliphites would flaunt water where they can, with it being so precious in their homeland!
  10. That looks beautiful! Great job putting Kaliphlin into Avalonia!
  11. Good call...I can't remember how quickly, but they did have some super packs of PoTC. And that line just came out last year, so I would think there is a definite possibilty of it.
  12. Very nice! I wonder how many late additions we have yet to see today! This one was worth the wait.
  13. Meesa wants more bombad love in Kaliphlin too!
  14. Yes, the watchtower round is over. The embassy round is currently on, so hurry and build an embassy on a 48x48 baseplate and post it by the 15th! Actually, you can still post your watchtower as a freebuild even now. We would love to have some more free builds here in Kaliphlin. And though the embassy challenge ends in about 36 hours, there will be another announced very soon I imagine. Welcome to the guild!
  15. I don't see where these sets are terribly overpriced(other than Weathertop). Moria has 776 pieces at $79, and Helm's Deep 1300+ at $129. Weathertop is only 430 at $59, but the rest seem to match close to what Kingdoms ran at per piece count. And being that this is a licensed theme, I will be getting more for my money that what I expected to. As far as Uruk Hai Army goes, I thought that was perfect. 257 pieces at $29, plus a great array of minifigs. The piece that was labelled as throwaway is actually pretty cool to me. You get the new horse, lots of bley and sand green. The new light bley brick-faced brick(?) has at least 5 appearing in here as well.
  16. I hear what you mean about the parts from Lego sets. There are good pieces in there, but in such limited quality that you need to buy many to get the few pieces you want. I would love a castle parts pack. In the past they had done that with arches and the like, but I haven't seen that in 20 years(when I was 2?? I wish) As far as the LOTR sets go, I am actually pretty excited at the pieces coming in there in addition to the figs of course. Helm's Deep and Uruk-hai Army each have quite a bit of bley parts, plus they have the 1x2 brick with the masonry(brick texture) front to them. It even has them in Light Bley that wasn't available before. And the amount of Olive cheese slopes and great rock making pieces in the Orc Forge looks very tempting. I just dropped another $200 on BL this week and will have to slow down as well, so back to the garage saling for me. I have had a little luck with that, mostly because I put my wife on the lookout. She actually has bought all of the mixed boxes at cheap prices that I've been able to find. One of them had a Darth Vader fig in it. It was all disassembled and I think the seller didn't even know it was in there, but I was pretty happy!
  17. Basiliscus-That is a beautiful stained glass window, and the cobbled floor looks great! Scubacarrot-Looks good....are the skulls and orc-head from some Nocturnians that didn't follow the Kaliphlin law inside the embassy
  18. I agree with SI! The cross hatching with the brown tiles and cheese slopes thrown in look great! You are doing our guild proud!
  19. So, I have to say first that I love this build! The entire embassy is so well detailed that it just draws you in. But, the two comments I really want to make are: 1. I am very jealous of the brown grass pieces...I hope Lego makes more of those! 2. The face on the dude in the bathouse is priceless!
  20. Looks like Hobbit wave will be next, in December. Then next year we will see another wave of LoTR and Hobbit each....at least that's what I'm getting from everything that I have read. As to that wishes fulfilled list, I agree! I am ecstatic about this entire theme. I did read Blake Baer express his excitement at the sets and at the same time a little unhappiness, because of what that means for the LoTR MOC'ing that is so original right now and could be very diluted after this. I can totally agree with that sentiment, but I am still very happy with beautiful looking sets, figs and new pieces....so all smiles and bubbles here.
  21. I tried to get my 7 year old to watch FoTR with me last week. He got bored before Merry and Pippin even set off Gandalf's fireworks and wandered off with his 3DS....oh well. I guess that does mean the sets are just for me!
  22. I think those are the werewolf headpieces, based on the matching brown ears. But they definitely work!
  23. I have to say that I am shocked at the number of people commenting that they won't be getting the Uruk-Hai army or the Orc Forge set. Those 2 along with Helm's Deep are the ones I am most excited for. I think Lego made a great decision by putting in those 2 army building sets for the AFOL's. I have been out of Lego for about 10 years and just got back in this year, but I would say based on my limited experience that this theme has more details and thoughts centered around the AFOL perspective than others I've seen. The army building sets, the sand green pieces tucked into Helm's Deep like Easter Eggs, and some of the new pieces we've been clamoring for(the bley brick faced brick)! I am really excited for this release and am saving my pennies now! I will definitely need at least 1 Helm's Deep, 2 Uruk-Hai army, and 2 Orc Forge....hopefully more! And I will probably pick up every set other than Shelob Attacks. For some reason that just doesn't do it for me. Probably because I consider myself a builder more than a collector, and the pieces in that set don't look special(so far)
  24. Wow, what a beautiful embassy! There is a definite Mitgardian feel to it, but some great Nocturnus landscaping. Of course, your druid is taking care of that so it will be all Mitgardia soon enough! Great work!
  25. Awesome! Welcome to the guild.
