  1. Same with me. I started building about this time last year, but when I saw the GoH challenge I really hoped to join a group with some great builders and improve myself. I definitely think that this project is a huge help for newbies like me!
  2. Very nice build here! It definitely has an Elven feel to it, and the massive curved staircase adds a very unblocky(not made of Lego) look to it.
  3. My plan is to have the party traveling through the tunnels of Mägi Linnus fighting off mummies along the way. Reach the crystal chamber with a sarcophogus in front of the crystal. An earth golem rises out of the cave to defend the crystal, after it is defeated the pieces crumble to the floor opening the sarcophogus and releasing the Lich Lord Sonuja Al Katma. He is the real guardian of the Water Crystal. My challenges so far are the articulation of the golem while still looking realistic, and the effect of rising in smoke and fire for the Lich Lord. Plus, he has to look cool enough to be scary, yet still be based off a minifig.
  4. Captain Beerbeard-From what I read of the challenge, with no size limits, etc. I do believe that we have the freedom to construct the story as we see fit. I think that using several builds in the same post is perfectly fine, and I hope that I'm right because that is what I am planning for my entry! I think that as long as we hit on all of the requirements(guardians, crystal, etc.), we will be OK with anything else regarding the build.
  5. I agree with Basisliscus, we have a great collection of builders and storytellers in this guild, and I think this is one is ripe for the taking. CptMugWash-that is looking very cool! I see the plant life surrounding the structure in the center, is that going to be an indoor location or outdoor with an open roof? I think that would help to come up with what is going in the corners, and whether or not to use the mausoleum in that or a seperate picture leading up to that location. I also started my build for C3. I am going to have it be buried deep beneath the sands in the tunnels that lead from my last build The Ruins of Mägi Linnus. I have some guardians planned that are being brickbuilt and should be pretty cool if I can translate what I see in my head into brick properly!
  6. Very cool! I really like the use of the barred/fenced windows and how well they fit into the entire structure.
  7. Nice job! You have incorporated some nice techniques in here. You have already grown as a builder since we started the Guilds of Historica!
  8. That bear is so cute, it almost looks like they're cuddling! Nice story though, very cool to see the background of an emerging new character!
  9. SI-Quick question on some minutia of the rules for Challenge 3. Is it OK to use Trans-Light Blue for the crystal rather than the Trans-Dark Blue that is pictured? I have some Trans-Light Blue, but not the Trans-Dark Blue. I'd rather not place an entire Bricklink order around just getting that one piece, and the sets that contain that piece were all discontinued this year, except the $279 Imperial Boat
  10. Another great build de Gothia! The fireplace to the arched walls all look great!
  11. This is very cool Mikel, I started laughing immediately when I read the way Yesil speaks like another little green man I've seen!
  12. Angeli, another great build! You are the master of the Subterranean and Underwater builds. The glow and feel that you add to these really make them feel like they belong in those environments!
  13. Congrats on another win Gabe! You must be deserving of Kaliphlin Master Builder at this point!
  14. In the last page of the Mitgardia thread, they have noticed the Kaliphlin wiki idea, and already created a Mitgardia wiki page. I didn't click on it yet to see what it looks like, but we may want to coordinate with them.
  15. Well said DC! When I first signed up, I wanted to go to Avalonia. The entire reason for that was that it would have been the most comfortable for me to build in based on what I have done in the past. Avalonia was full, so I just went with Kaliphlin, because the idea of it seemed pretty cool. Now, I am very happy to have joined that guild for the challenges that it has presented to me as a newer builder. The great guild-members that are with me help a ton too! So anyway, I would encourage anyone looking to join to not just go with what is comfortable, but instead push yourself outside of your 'comfort-zone' and try something different. In the end that may be the best for your growth as a MOC'er
  16. Looks great! Nice use of the scattered tiles for the road
  17. I definitely have some plans for the interior tunnels under the desert. And my guild is your guild! Of course anyone is welcome to add to the story and the builds.
  18. Thanks for the comments guys! The first time I read about the Great Escarpment, I had this idea pop into my head. The problem was finding the time to put it into Brick. DaMaximus - It was defended by the dark magicks of the desert sorcerers. Plus the army of undead mummies helped! Blaze - I am definitely exploring the idea of doing some builds to explore those underground tunnels. Gabe - I agree, the transition turned out much harsher than I intended. I will definitely have to get some more tan and dark tan plates to make that more smooth in the future. robuko - Definitely further away from Queen's Cross. It's esact location has yet to be pinpointed, but it is not far from the southern edge of the escarpment.
  19. Here is a free build for Kaliphlin-The Ruins of Mägi Linnus There are more pics at the main topic.... Ruins of Mägi Linnus topic This is essentially and old fortress built into the Great Escarpment in an age long past...
  20. When the world was young and the guilds were not even a thing of dreams, the land was ruled by those that could tame the lands. Built ages ago and right into the face of the Great Escarpment during such times was Mägi Linnus. A stronghold of magic and dark secrets, the halls of Mägi Linnus reside beneath the desert sands of the Siccus Badlands. Sonuja Al Katma, a sorcerer who shaped the land to his will made this is home. It is whispered among legends that Sonuja found a way to cheat death, and that he and his kin are actually still around to this day. Those same whispers insinuate that the Mountain Mummy tribes of Kaliphlin are in all actuality Sonuja Al Katma and his loyal subjects, biding their time until the day comes that they will once again rule the desert sands. Whether or not these rumors are true, the Mummy tribes have indeed move into Mägi Linnus. In those past eons, the forces of Sonuja had an uncanny ability to arrive anywhere in the desert without having been seen traveling through the desert. Those in the know, realize that this was due to the intricate layout of tunnels that run beneath the sands and appear beneath dunes, so well camouflaged that only the most trained eyes can find them. These same tunnels run from the Rakath mountains all the way to the Great Escarpment and of course in Mägi Linnus. This may explain how the Mountain Mummies make it all the way from their known lands in the Rakath Mountains throughout the deserts and all the way to the Great Escarpment.
  21. Gabe - I really liked your original embassy, but I do think that the revisions look better. I really like the curtained look of the second top-most floor in the new version SI - I'll see what I can do for that challenge. About 10 days ago I started a free build for the guild that is 32x96. I will have to finish that up before I can move on due to brick constraints. Hopefully I can complete both, if not I will just submit the big one for everyone to enjoy, and then I will enjoy what everyone puts in for the mini-challenge!
  22. This is a beast. I thought from LDD it would be in real bricks it is even more impressive! This one is a tough competitor for us and may bring home the gold!
  23. Another awesome build! I don't mind the technic piece, but maybe if you used a black one there it would blend in better and still give the same use. Either way this is a great free build.
  24. An absolute shame this a few days late, because this is a great embassy! Still, it makes for a great free build. Even though I am also a Southerner, I will just call you Abu, because the entire name is too difficult for me!
  25. This is awesome! The build itself is a great thing, but like others have said the ice-bound boat was a stroke of genius. Another great embassy for Kaliphlin!
