  1. lol the fact that several people on this community see different messages clearly indicates this ad sucks!
  2. i think you're taking the wrong approach here. i don't think it mentions lego/denmark and i doubt if the arab world knows this brick is danish lego... But suppose the UN tried that association (danish lego brick-danish cartoons-racism) then i think they have a serious problem on their hands, cos in that case they are using the lego brand without lego's permission in a highly questionable context... Toa isn't correct either. The fact that the brick cannot be part of the puzzle, even if it wanted to, is a wrong conclusion and is in fact the behavior this ad condemns. the ad says it's wrong to build a society based on discriminative criteria (in this case, the shape, color of the brick,...) that exclude individuals because of who they are. By saying the brick can't be part of the community because it's clearly different, you're saying a black guy doesn't belong in a community of white people because of his color, a visual element of the individual that is part of the individual's nature) so what brings these pieces together into a community, is the fact that they all are pieces, it doesn't matter that one is a red construction toy and the other a piece of a puzzle.
  3. What kind of paper do you print on and how do you adhere it to the mini-figures and bricks smoothly so you don't get any wrinkles? you took the words right out of my mouth, pirate! i'd also like to know what paper he used... i'm mostly impressed by the colors, tho. they look like a perfect match with the original stickers. What software did you use?
  4. yeah it took me a while to figure it out as well. it goes like this: the brick can't be part of the puzzle because it's different from the puzzle pieces
  5. don't use Paint. Paint is very hard to make good drawings in... hm... it's pretty good, tho, but time consuming, and it obviously only provides to basic drawing options, but if you know how to use those, can can draw highly detailed objects... the major problem with paint is that it doesn't handle curved lines very well... that's why changed to corel draw's X3 software
  6. it's been here for a while now. several shops sell it for 19
  7. storing parts has always been a huge challenge. i've been changing sorting methods thru out the years, hoping i'll be able to get it right one day. in my experience, the best sorting solution is having lots and lots of space so you can leave any part where ever you want to, without having to look for boxes. i tried small box systems in the past, i still have them but they're not very usefull to me because the average size of the boxes becomes too small when your collection grows... also tried plastic bags you can close/open. i still use those because they're more flexible than boxes, but only for the parts you don't use very often and minifigs then i have a crappy parts bag: a bag completely filled with parts you're just not going to use for any model, like those terrible UFO parts, bionicle things, motor parts,... unfortunately, i'm always looking for a larger bag... i also keep a box with my technic parts. i have a huge diversity of technic parts, but not in large numbers, so 1 box really ought to do the trick... Still, sorting bricks and keeping the system alive is not my favourite part of the lego hobby. it's time consuming, you always seem to have a shortage of boxes and in the end you'll always end up with a pile of bricks you can't sort because it's just not worth the box....
  8. to be honest, lego asked for this..; they've been getting themselves more and more involved in social/political projects in the last few years, for instance, their involvement in the concentration camp project... here's the real crappy thing: lego does no longer have the patent of those bricks (remember the court cases in Canada and Euope), so we may still associate this with lego and the company may feel they're being put in an impossible position, but this brick concept is free now for everyone to use... so you may think this is a lego brick, the UN will tell you it's not...
  9. i loved lego as a kid because it allowed you to be creative. you could build models, figure out why they worked or didn't work, what you needed to do to prevent a collapse; it challenged you ... at the same time , it allowed you to invent stories, whatever you could think of, you could always use lego to make it happen... i don't think there was any object more important to me than lego as a young child. even today, in some cases, i still remember what set i got, where, why and how i got it. i remember lots of occasions when i played with lego together friends and family, even tho I lost track with quite a few of those people thru out the years... now i'm using lego as a hobby. it's relaxing to build things with lego when your daytime job is extremely stressfull and working over time is more the rule then the exception...
  10. hm... i guess you can print a booklet with only the sets for that particular period. they're doing that for the catalogues as well, so that wouldn't really be a problem, even if the lifespan of a set is very short. but i guess there's a problem with costs. several sets aren't available in certain countries, so you'd have to change your booklet depending on the country and that would make things more difficult and expensive.... besides, i don't think too many people care about it, so it probably was a very easy decision to get rid of it...
  11. i keep my boxes. i usualy cut them up so i can easily store them...
  12. yeah..; saw that also... it's a shame really. sometimes these smaller booklets showed you a different view of models you didn't have compared to the actual catalogue; i miss them, but i guess it's all about saving money...
  13. i've always liked fabuland, but i never thought they had keychains of it. it is nice to see some fabuland again anyway. the only keychain i have is the one ras gave me in billund: darth vader and he's doing what he's supposed to do: guarding my keys!
  14. we don't have those yet... is it already released?
  15. no doubt, it's a nice set, but too expensive...
  16. Phes, it's just a joke! g... what do you think if Captain Kirk would audition for the role of Gandalf in Lord of the rings? You really think Peter Jackson would have said it's ok to keep on wearing the star trek suit in the film? the joke is that he's totally out of place, and he's the only guy who doesn't notice it! the joke is that he's an anachronism, he doesn't fit the criteria for to be a viking! this has NOTHING to do with cartoons. there's no political message behind it, i don't even see the link...
  17. hehe, in a way, you're right, phes. it is discrimination for a lego fig. i mean, an exo force minifig can't be anybody else but an exo force minifig. he gets "born" that way... he can't change his torso or hair style... and therefore cannot be a minifig for a viking set. sure, that's discrimination... on the other hand, a minifig isn't accepted by the Geneva convention as an individual, human being, a minifig is a toy, so there can't be any question of discrimination... happy now?
  18. that's a great mission! what will be your greatest challenge, you think?
  19. saw "Terminator" a few days back and i was terrified .... by the woman's hair style! :'-( thank god the 80's are over! :-P they also gave us an insight on the future of our planet and the shocking truth is this: i didn't see any lego there! :-P
  20. Spyrius guys are cheap now days. Much less than castle or star wars. I really wish LEGO would make a new space line. I just got a couple of the spyrius sets I was missing. Lovely little things. I really like the whole color scheme. I still wish Blacktron (the original) would make a comeback. i'd love a blacktron 1 comeback as well, Spyrius, to me, was the beginning of the end for space... after that we got those ufo things, insectoids or whatever,... nope, not good... however, you can do so much more now with a space theme, as many mocers show every day... in any case, you can't help but admire Phes' loyalty to pirates... or is lack of courage to let go of the old and look for something new.... like exo? :-P
  21. hehe... do you know something we don't? ;-) i'd give it a 5; it's a great army builder's set! :-D
  22. i certainly never bought any of the kk2... i got it from a sw set, think the snowspeeder, so i probably got it by accident... i wouldn't call it gray either. i think they just used too much white and not enough gray during the mixing procedure, leading to a color that's not white, but not gray either. it may "work" for a shield, but i doubt a wall in this color would look very nice... i don't expect lego to start changing the colors again. they were crucified when they replaced old grey by new grey. they'll think twice next time...
  23. Mostly, Phes watches over Castle/Pirates, and Bionicle is for Jinzo (who, at the moment, is MIA). I'll head over and pin them for you. As far as my opinion on the topic, of course everyone should be able to do photo reviews. However, a lot of the ones I've seen lately have been of some pretty old sets that aren't in stores any more. This doesn't make much sense to me; my original intent with the photo reviews was to either encourage or discourage the community from buying a new set. In my opinion, maybe restricting it to recent sets would be a good idea. yep, phes and the brickster have given us reviews of old sets. the idea behind those was simply to discuss some sets of the past and have a look at it. there was no commercial intent. i don't think you'll influence many members with a review, tho. to most it's probably just an opportunity to have a good look at them long before they're in the shops....
