  1. well i guess there's a risk of diminishing sales for the sw lines in later years. many fans get too old to collect of loose interest, whatever. but it's probably also an attempt to keep the license out of the hands of megablocks and others. for now, the most likely long term success, non licensed theme is city, as long as they don't start with yet another police, fire, constructions and hospital subtheme in the near future. i think many people would be disappointed if they'd start all over again in 2007... i don't understand why they've stopped producing vikings. that sold pretty well, every one says, so why only two sets this year? i think tey could haven hang on for another year or two...
  2. it would be nice to have a lego store in flanders as well. belgians spend lots on toys including lego and it seems the small belug community has good contacts with lego belgium. but it's not going to happen... they once decided that the lego store network would be more for the Us market than for us europeans. i think the financial situation is this: they built up huge losses untill 2005, by spending waaaaay too much money, thinking sales of sw would make it right. by 2004 the situation was very bad , so they changed strategies and policies, in the mean time also replacing several board members. 2005-2006 would be a turning point. they cut costs seriously, sold most of the shares of the legoland parks, relocated plants,... Because of all that, 2005 was a first good step, the sold well in a shrinking toys market and they got some extra money because of the sales from parks,... that lead to a fair result in 2005. 2006 would be the year of consolidation, the year with no extra income, only sales of products, in a still shrinking market. so 2006 is a pretty tough year to deal with for the company, but if it works, it'll be a milestone. especially the success of exo force is more than just a minor event, it could really be the difference between the start for a new future for the company or yet another few very difficult years...
  3. 1) adventures doesn't sell. shops are still trying to sell those sets and it seems that doesn't work very well 2) a lego rep in belgium said about a year ago that new "adventures" was out of the question. it's too exotic, too far off ... forget adventures, it won't come back...
  4. i'm not going for the "it used to be a lot better" argument either. i don't see the point in going back to classic space as it used to be. there are some pics of a "classic space world" on brickshelf, and sure, they are very nice, but at the same time, they're dated... i'd love to see a legend of some kind, but i wouldn't go back to that world. However, as i stated in my second point of my originel post, i think the designers would be able to produce a great space theme. as a fan of space i'd go nuts if that were to happen, (like phes going crazy if lego were to start a new qualitative pirate line :-P ). Sure, fans produce brilliant stuff as well, but they usually don't produce a coherent theme (ship, medium ship, large ship, truck, spacestation). they just build a ship. however, if giddens' stuff would ever be sold by lego as a product, i'd buy it, no doubt. in my third point i was going back to the original question of the topic. why is it so appealing? It had great designs... that doesn't mean i don't like the later stuff, i usually try to buy all the lego sets i like, whatever theme, even tho classic space would be my favourite... i agree, they will only spend a lot of money in garanteed hits, like sw. they won't step into a new adventure like "neo classic space".
  5. you just did!
  6. Well, maybe Jof could "help" her manage her account, posts, etc. And who are you calling underaged? guess!
  7. g... i had no idea it was that bad at lugnet... we had a member insulting another member thru pm once. the admins took care of that very quickly, as it should... i don't think it's our place to tell any other website what to do, however, i think it needs a facelift. i never joined lugnet because it was waaaay too complicated, too many newsgroups... i do hope they stick around tho, their database is a lifeline for me...
  8. ok... you're toutching very sensitive grounds here :-P :-P :-P 1) clasic space and sw is not the same at all and cs doesn't even compare with exo. sw is all about specific characters of a film, it's all about specific models of craft, trucks,... they are built around 6 films. sw is all about following lines and orders what to design, what can and can't be allowed. Classic space is the opposite, it's about creating things that don't nessecarily have to look like real models, it's just about a bunch of astronauts flying around, or driving around on the surface of a weird planet in a cool, or weird looking hovercraft, speeder, car, ... I don't know if you're into drawing, but the difference between sw and classic space is like the difference between drawing based on acurate and detailed observation on the one hand, and drawing comics on the other. 2) you're saying people are building space mocs with whatever parts they can find, very often sw parts, and many are great at it. You're right. you don't need an official line with "classic space" ships, however, imagine what lego designers would be able to do if they would actualy get the resources of the company to back them up. They themselves could build huge space ships the size of a crawler or a blockade runner for half the price or so with 10 astronauts, instead 3 or 4, of which one is yet another "luke" or whatever ... just think: a space ship the size of a star destroyer for "only" 150$! 3) several sets are truly great designs if you think about the limited options they had back then. several space sets are truly magnificent, like the Galaxy Explorer it has everythng you want: it's multifunctional, lots of room for additional stuff, it looks beautiful, the color combination is great,... it's very sophisticated, for its time... or take the All-Terrain Vehicle . i tried for years to build a truck with a radar station like this type... it's simple, it's solid ... it was just what i wanted at that point. it had so much playability to it... and don't get me started on futuron or blacktron 1! :-P :-P that radar station of blacktron was just brilliant!! never saw anything after that, that even came close!
  9. or this one: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemPic.asp?M=sw105 5000$ for Lando... hm.... Perhaps Bill gates' kids might be interested, or a crownprince somewhere the Middle East... :-P
  10. i have a small toy shop that sells all sorts of new and second hand toys from action figures to comic books and even model trains. a bit like ebay for toys but without the bidding. you just buy whatever they ask for it... they used to have lots of lego ; i remember they once had three copies, two used and one new, of the futuron space train next to the entire collection of HP and sw, not even that long ago, in fact... they just buy collections from all sorts of people who are tired of the lego sets; i visit them practically every week, sometimes they only have a dozen or so smaller town sets they can't get rid off, and once a month or so they have a huge collection. i think i'm one of the only lego customers, so i usually get first choice... yep, i will enjoy putting them together! *sweet*
  11. i'm very proud to add my new pirate sets to the collection: 6296: shipwrecked 6264: forbidden cove 6270: forbidden island 6265: sabre island 6260: shipwreck island 6267: lagoon lock-up 6278: enchanted island
  12. it would have been great if the garage doors of the firestation lead to the USB ports, closing the doors would then protect them from dust,... but it's a cool moc... :-)
  13. this is not the only example tho... i believe some others are doing this with other sets/minifigs as well
  14. i bought an entire collection today: most are pirate sets but also a few older castle sets 6296 6278 6054 6270 6264 6066 6265 6038 6260 6267 they all seem to be complete, i only don't have the boxes... :'-( paid 173euro...
  15. windsor is a tourist highlight, yoda, they'll have several pubs, if you stay close to the castle btw, would anybody be interested in set 1254? (http://guide.lugnet.com/set/1254_1) it's a shell promo from 1999, MISB, it's 14 euro. i just sold two to jon, yoda already has one, so they'll have 1 to 3 left... if you want one, tell me asap, cos i have to make arrangements to get them...
  16. i'll arrive at 12.25...
  17. i like it! 8-
  18. two things: lego sales depend upon the buying power of the customers, so lego is a lot more expensive for people in Greece, than for instance, germans, french, dutch or belgians, simply because our wages are higher. that makes it more interesting for lego to focus on western europe... lego may not have a long standing tradition of trading in some countries. they may be relatively newcomers in southern europe. i don't expect to find much lego in portugal, italy or spain either, except for the big cities
  19. happy birthday!!! X-D :-D have a great one!
  20. it's true that parents, family members,... are always looking for small 5-10
  21. that may be part of tru's policy. they very often don't take sets that they may not be able to sell in the short run. but i've also heard that lego doesn't allow shops to sell every set of the catalogue.
  22. they just have problems with distributing lego sets. Some shops in my neighbourhood ordered lego last summer, they're still waiting for it. in fact, some sets they ordered will probably not be available anymore... one shopkeeper told me they get a message from lego on a regular basis saying they can't deliver the goods and the shopkeeper has to repeat the order to get it back into the system. It's the 8th time now that they've repeated the order... last week, they got a package from lego.... it had exactly 8 sets on it... now they'll probably have to wait another 6 months or so for another delivery... according to the shopkeeper it's because: 1) production of lego is a mess,2) they're transporting lego from denmark to belgium thru the UK in order to save money, but the quality of the line clearly sucks...
  23. hm... i've seen several atlantis episodes and i don't really like it. the characters are boring, the stories seem to be repeating themselves. it reminds me of the last star trek series: it's lost the dynamics of the other series, it doesn't really add anything to it, same old story, basically, but not as good...
