  1. just won a few bids on ebay: 6804 6810 6825 6871 897 6881 6871 yep i did buy one twice, but it was part of a package so nothing i could do about that. I paid in all, 30
  2. so what is your intention with 1729 pirate? you can end your painful quest for this set if you just buy it from Bricklink. $30 for a 2nd hand... ok ... $130 for a new one... ouch... How realistic is it to find a new one on ebay for a lower price?
  3. now that we are talking about pirates sets on ebay... Is it just me or is demand for pirate sets decreasing on ebay? I've been keeping an eye on some space sets in the last couple of weeks and i saw rather cheap, but 2nd hand, pirate sets on a regular basis... At least, the prices involved looked very reasonable to me....
  4. great moc, vader! 8-
  5. welcome! ok... you may had to sell your large sw sets, however, you have a major advantage to all of us you can always blame your wife for getting more and more lego! After all, she started it! :-P anyway hope you have a great time here...
  6. very cool mocs, yoda!! and i see you have added detailed cockpit interiors! so my influence is finally breaking thru your defences...
  7. i'm quite pissed Belgium didn't make it. According to all bookmakers we were even supposed to end in the top-10 of the actual contest... You obviously missed it, but the greek director clearly didn't know what was going on, at some point, he even started filming the legs of one the male dancers, instead of the singer's... Once again all observers told us we'd end in the top 5, but for some reason, we never do. It even goes back all the way to Clouseau, and that's easily 10 years ago... I'm also wondering what this contest is all about these days, but it hardly has anything to do with music at all... Seen Finland? wtf is that?! Nice going Eurosong! it seems the crazier the act, the more chances you have to win... My guess is that you most of all have to have an active public that is willing to vote for you. Turkey for instance doesn't have to have a good song, it has communities in all other countries that vote for Turkey, whatever the quality of the song. We, Belgians, don't have that, so we, Belgians, are screwed...
  8. i'm also not really sure what you're doing, but next time, edit your last post and add the links there.
  9. i just saw "the Poseidon adventure" of 1972 with Gene Hackman and Leslie Nielsen. i read yesterday that a remake of the film will be released in summer, so i thought to take a look at the old one... I'd say it's pretty crappy. thank god some one tells you the ship is lying upside down or you simply wouldn't know that... And from that point on, you get a "Titanic" situation: people are trying to find a way out. Nothing more, nothing less... but without the special effects of "titanic"... on the other hand, there's nothing really irritating, it may even be entertaining, but in the end... we've seen it all before...
  10. so i finally had the chance to take some photos of the Larger Lunchbox, at Space Base Dobbins, you know, the station that supplies interstellar Spacecraft from the planet's surface? Naturally, that's the reason why these larger transport ships are stationed there, they have to supply the ships in orbit with whatever they need, like smaller ships, pods, spare parts, even personnel. This ship is basically just an enlarged version of the highly successful Lunchbox. To show you how big this thing is: the backside: the frontside: as usual, the cockpit is really high off the ground and most of the instruments are placed on top of the fuselage. Still, it's all quite simple, primitive, even. After all, a transport ship doesn't need to have complicated instruments, just the regular things will do. the proximity radar is the small dish in front of the canopy, the larger radar in housed in the grey dome on a boom. The yellow tank on the other side is a liquid of some kind... think it's the main hydraulics tank... It seems this ship is from the "felix the cat" unit, as the nose art suggests. The yellow arrow indicates the emergency handle to eject the canopy; "101" is the official aircraft number within the group, but i don't know what the big red "7" means. It's probably a reference to this ship being the number seven in a passed mission. you can almost see that it's just a sticker, so i guess it's a very temporary thing... This is photo from behind the engines. You can clearly see the two discs with the fuel cells, next to the identification board, that's barely visible behind the engines. No, "TT" does not mean this is TT's personal ship, according to the tailcode book "TT" refers to the mothership SCS Denver. However, my guess is that some idiot applied the wrong sticker, because the serial number is that of a pod! >:-( The two yellow tanks on top are filled with hydrogene, antifreeze and some kind of cooling gass... there's a ladder on the opposite side... Sure, the low voltage formation light is a bit in the way, but the engineers have been able to sidestep the problem... "What is a formation light", you say? Ships fly in groups, very often at night, when it's really dark. These lights allow the ships to be clearly visible for each other so they won't collide... There's a camera next to the light to give the pilot a better view of the situation. After all, these big ships have to be able to land on cramped decks and hangars of ships, where space is valuable, so you have to land the bulky monster on an exact spot, sometimes very close to other ships... You can also see the landing gear, the yellow identification light and the sprankling system to fight specific elements, like radiation. ah! The white thing is a secondary auxiliary power unit. I know, it doesn't make any sense to have a second one, but Space Command regulations... you know how it goes... The engines look rather small compared to the ship's size, as is the case with any huge cargo ship... There's no need to have huge engines for what's basically a container with a cockpit on top. The emphasis is on efficiency, flexibility, longevity, simplicity... still, they're working on a new engine for the box. they promised me i can take pics of that later in the week... *sweet* Like the smaller box, there's a door at the front and at the back. That allows a "drive thru capability". also noteworthy is that they didn't paint the ship. all components have their originel colours. Don't know why that is... Maybe they were just too lazy to paint the thing... It is after all, big. This is the inside with the ladder to the cockpit down...
  11. on bl you'd get a new one for $104 so 100 euro is about average to even a bit high... in terms of modification, i guess you can do or try anything. I mean, this set comes will all typical train parts, right?
  12. I haven't heard any song yet, except the one from belgium ... ah yes ... Spain... Remember "the Ketchup song"? it's a blue print of that... nope... not favourite of mine... I think the whole thing has lost quite a lot of its charm, really... There was a time when it was strictly forbidden to play the song before the actual show, now it's the other way around. If you don't campaign, you loose...
  13. First, forgive the spelling errors I am about to commit... Not true, as it has been said, Vikings made atlantic travels (Viking settlements in greenland, Iceland, Nova Scotia prove this) Also, the galley, which is what a longboat essentially is, are wonderful in merchant raiding. The ealiest pirate threat was that of galleys in the mediterranian sea. the smaller galleys are quicker then cogs, and roman vessels similar to cogs. Many pirates of the Caribean started out on small galleys or long row boats. The power of manpower in battle is not really breached until the age of steam. Also, chinese pirates used galley like ships a good deal, also. As has been stated, there were no real fleets in the northern seas and ocean that could really affect the Viking menace, therefore the Vikings really did not fight sea battles. Their armor would have prevented sea engagements. (YOu would sink to the bottom in metal armor if you accedently fell off the ship in combat, hence in the middle ages the building of large pontoons for soldiers to fight on so they had less of a chance to go splash!) Vikings worked alot like the battle in the movie troy when the greeks row off and attack, well they would only come off the ship like that if the enemy was present, most of the time they parked outside a coastal villiage or a city on a river and raided unphased by enemy warriors. No they didn't sail the Atlantc. They just sailed close to the north pole all the way basically from one island to another. They didn't have the knoledge of navigation they'd need to sail the Atlantic Ocean, at best, they sailed the periphery of the Atlantic. It's not a coincidence that the exploration of Earth only started when people had all sorts of navigational skills and most of all, decent maps... Vikings didn't have those... Vikings would never be able to do what Colombus did with his three ships, even though those were quite primitive as well... "Greenland", "Nova Scotia", "Iceland"? g... not mankind's greatest achievements, if you're asking me, with all due respect... You're highly overestimating the concept of a galley. Man power is inferior to sails. You need too many people just to get your ship moving, you can't do large distances away from the coast, you can't really transport heavy cargo... You really think a galley would win a battle against Nelson's "Victory"? come on... a few shots from a canon and your man power is completely gone... But even as a transport ship a longboat is simply not as good as a cog... and yes, a cog was indeed capable of carrying armed soldiers... I agree both, the cog and the longboat are merchant vessels, no question there. So sure, this entire discussion is nonsense... but entertaining... I remember having read on another website a discussion on what would be the strongest warship in the galaxy: a Borg cube or sw's Death star... Hilarious! X-D
  14. i don't like this train either, and I wouldn't buy it. Maybe you can purchase this one and sell it later in the year on ebay, depending on the price.
  15. that's a cool moc! i like the combination of different greys. Such a combination often doesn't work very well, but you've seem to be able to bypass that... the gateless roman tower is probably just fantasy tho... but nice...
  16. i've been thinking about that as well... i don't see any reason why we shouldn't have "months" of old themes... as long as we don't exagerate and as long as poor jipay and apo can handle it... :-P
  17. The belgian song "Je t'adore" seems to be one of the major candidates i hear. It's already been a huuuuge hit in the belgian charts and they're campaigning thru out europe to promote the song... It's quite catchy, so for once we may have a shot to end up somewhere top 5. I'm still pissed at Greece's decision to change the voting procedure tho, because that's the only fun part of the show...
  18. the original links work as well. maybe there's something wrong with your connections?
  19. when i clicked on the link, i found that it's from the lego site... so sure, it's gotta be legal ;-)
  20. a strange reaction from Lego, if you're asking me. If it's a mistake, then it's mistake, if it's a European release then it's just that. Why the mystery? surely some one of the board must be able to provide a decent answer for Steve and community? ... *wacko*
  21. i'm mostly wondering where you're going to put this thing, Yoda. X-D If you don't have any room for it, i've got a square meter free at my place for your model , if you want... X-D
  22. i'm using "Sidol", which is a product to clean brass and it works fine. Never ever use thinner. i tried to clean a plastic model once by dropping it into a bottle of thinner and ... hm... the model was completely gone after a while, there was only this plastic substance... sort of.. :'-( X-O
  23. Count sneffie, you're making me cry :-( Technic last 3 years is the best it's been in a decade. I hope they are getting decent sales and keep it going. Do we have any hard information on this? I don't think we do, but let's face it, Lego technic, as trains, has lost lots of its prestige... a small section of fans moved to "Mindstorms", many older technic fans never accepted the new style of technic and disappeared all together, several shops got stuck with sw technic sets, ... it just looks as if the technic world has seriously decreased over the years...
  24. i think there are several other elements involved: 1) kids don't have the money to get lots of trains. actual model trains, like HO scale, are really expensive and lego trains aren't cheap either... 2) you need lots of space to have a decent layout and many kids don't have long term space for these things, unlike adults. Adults very often have an extra room in their own house to build a layout. Kids usually have their own sleeping room, but that's it. some even have a room for all the toys, but that turns into a room for the computer,... when they get older. Very often you also don't know as a kid if model trains is something you're gonna do for the rest of your life. You usually have that answer by the time you have a house of your own, a wife, a family... 3) Let's face it, trains are no longer part of the kid's world. Lego technic has exactly the same problem. I just talked to a shopkeeper and he told me that he's not going to buy Lego technic anymore because it just doesn't sell anymore. the lego stuff for older kids, like trains, technic,... has just fallen off the radar... At the same time, lego has indicated they will focus on smaller kids, aged between 1-12. all the rest, including us, afols, are just small market sections not really worth the investment... That hurts, but it is the way it is... 4) I think the only way out for trains is to completely integrate it with city. a set with a construction crane and a cargo train would be cool... 5) I also think there's a problem with the models they're producing. They're just not attractive and too big, making them even more expensive. they should also decrease prices of the tracks,...
