  1. Legoland Space set 6783: The Sonar Transmitting Cruiser I was going to kick off the Space subfurom with a review of the Solax-1 Lab, but I decided to give the honours to this special model instead. I first saw this ship in the old catalogue of 1986 as number 3 of the 'Light and sound' series. Number 1 and 2 being respectively set # 6750, a robot with a weird name called 'Roelof' and set # 6780, a more or less black and white version of 6891, a very cool, but rather small fighter. A fourth set (6770), fairly similar to set # 6925, would follow two years later, which closes the chapter of the black and white light and sound space ships. Number five is entirely different, being a black and blue 'Space Police' set, 6781. We
  2. i'm kinda hoping they won't but considering the success of exo, it will
  3. well it seems it was part of a three set series: 6079 6046 6024 still, i don't have any idea why lego decided to release those in 1996. They fit more or less into the late 80's castle sets, but not 1996. I guess they did sell it as "parts packs" more then actual sets of a theme.
  4. ok... here it goes: even if you remove tracks, you're still going to see elements that suggest there once were tracks on the site. For instance, you have a "service stairway" or ladder from your platform to the ground so employees can cross tracks from one platform to another. You'll also have these power lines lying on the ground next to the tracks to assure electrical power. they're usually covered by a protective plate or box... I'd also use grey, dark grey or black 1x ... plates to suggest there used to be a track there. Archeologists can reconstruct foundations of walls of houses of several 1000's of years ago because a change of colours of the ground. Dark brown or even black lines indicate there used to be a wall, dark spots suggests a pilar,... that's also the case with tracks. they've even been partially burried into the ground, so you should still be able to see the patern... also, you might have former elements of the tracks still lying there but more or less taken over by nature, like the pyramids in South America... I'd also use the green part of classic lego flowers instead of the larger plants you're having right now, because that particular ground will probably not be very fertile. So chances are you won't get anything but weed... i'd also make the green areas irregular, cos i've never seen green moisture or whatever going in straight lines. i'd also add some smaller plates to suggest relief. you'd expect the wind to move dirt from one place to another... still, i think your approach is very strange. Removing tracks? They'd never do that in Belgium! it's not smart to remove tracks. Where's your station? is there going to be a bridge from the platform to the ground at the other side of the tracks? if there are only two platforms (platform 1 and two) then you could add white plates ("1" and the other forming "2") in your layer of plates you've already put there; it's as if they're painted on the floor. i don't know how this works in denmark, but i think the edge of a platform in belgium also a white line, apart from the yellow dots... there... that should keep you busy for a while :-P
  5. You did, Larry complained about this in his review. It could have been a "Monday model", though, as we say, meaning a "one time production error". But that doesn't matter to me cos the entire model is one big design flaw IMHO (battery box inside the passenger cabin???), not to mention the RC system... yeah i don't see the point in that either, especially if you take into account that your number of passenger cars will be very limited due to lack of power... oh well, we'll see what happens, i guess...
  6. did i see this right? is there gap between the cockpit piece and the bricks? :'-(
  7. i came across an MISB legoland Police set today. 6450 is perhaps a too simple Light and sound police car, but for only 15.49
  8. btw, the brick factory is an excellent site! i'd recommend it to any lego fan. In my book, it's a much better sourse for scans of instructions and catalogues than peeron...
  9. there's something weird going on with this set. I can't find it in the catalogues. also, the style of minifigs is waaay older then the mainstream castle sets of the day.
  10. very cool models. i wasn't very impressed with the flatbed when I first saw it, but it seems ok. it's curious to see that the Americans opted for a different type of flatbed then Europeans. I mean, a European car would be no longer then a container it carries, but it would be carrying only 1; these American cars are twice as long but take two... the engine is great, even though not my first choice... btw, Hobbes, you positioned a yellew slope in the wrong direction
  11. happy birthday! Hope you get lots of lego! :-P
  12. i'm not a batman fan, so i'll let this pass... this thing looks like a brick on wheels to me, I don't even think you can move the wheels...
  13. If you search the well known databases of the community, you'll find that they're very often based on the American catalogues; Prices, for instance, usually are in dollars... as a European, that doesn't really tell me anything. Release dates, theme titles, set titles,... all American... So why don't we create a database of our own? One that not only maps the American and European facts about sets, but also from any other part of the world? I suggest we do this by writing reviews of old(er) sets. You can add whatever info you want as long as it's the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth... Others will fill in the gaps... Once we have a few of these i'll link them to the list below. You're also welcome to write a theme review, or to post whatever story or fact about a theme, however, before you do, make sure to check if some one else hasn't already started a new topic about that same theme. If that's the case, just add your post there... 16. nono i didn't start the topic for anybody in particular. I started this because I wanted to prevend EB from getting overflooded by "word-less" picture reviews, that very often don't lead to any discussion what so ever... and out of fear that in the end we wouldn't even be able to control it all. For instance, I can see a moment when the first page of "Lego theater" only has about 5 pic reviews of the isd and another 5 for the sailbarge,... without anything else going on... And unfortunately, we do have members who do not always think or look before they act and sometimes we do have to write things down because some members don't think of ... whatever... without us pointing it out... so i was basically refering to a phenomenon, not a person...
  17. hm... Some one else once posted that Australia and the rest of the region didn't and doesn't get much lego for whatever reason... 3 sets seems exagerated, though. However, what's in western Australia, apart from Perth?
  18. I'm mostly surprised about the avatar sets... We all knew the sailbarge would soon follow the isd's release, and admiral Giddens reviewed a spongebob set, clearly as an element of the marketing campaign of Sponge, but it's been fairly quiet on avatar... I guess you didn't buy those sets? It would have been nice to have good reviews of those sets...
  19. I don't think we had a special word for searching, however, I do remember that we had an entire catalog of part descriptions in our minds. Whenever i played with lego with my friends, we always understood one another perfectly. So when one of us was looking for a specific part and wanted the others to know, we didn't need much explenation. Usually "a small red window 2 x 2" or "a 2 x 6 plate, black" would sufice. Everybody knew what you were talking about. But if you played with lego with others, people who were not familar with that language... g... it took them hours before they knew what you needed...
  20. I'm sorry to revive this topic, people, however I had to rest for a few days after my cardiac arrest i got when i saw Kim's picture with him and Rickard... *wacko* :'-( *wacko* To KimT: What the hell were you thinking of?! >:-( Posting such a horrendous photo on a website that is regularly visited by kids?! Honestly, I would expect more common sense from a teacher! >:-( :-P Yoda, I propose you teach Kim here a lesson by putting him into ... the Chamber, where he can think about his actions, accompanied by the already residing member called "Police"! Yeah... isn't that funny? The police is jailed! :-P Besides, this photo has clearly been photoshoped; you obviously sat in one of these: http://history.gigengack.nl/gallery/albums..._1920_640px.jpg To CopMike: G... Star Wars hasn't reached Sweden yet, after 25 years of its original release? Still stuck with ABBA, i guess? Yoda is a small green creature with pointy ears and a lousy knoledge of English grammar... Now, do you see a small green creature with pointy ears and a lousy knoledge of English grammar on your picture? Anywhere? But hey, I understand, listening to ABBA for so many years must have caused some kind of braindammage :-P If you're asking me, those two gents are Tintin's "Dupond et Dupont" in a terrible disguise :-P To Ras 74: I'm still not talking to you, you traitor >:-( , you.... hang on... Yoda, perhaps you can move this topic to the admin's playground forum? After all, this may become too ugly for some sensitive souls on our forum... Shall i give you the link, Rickard? :-P
  21. I don't think there's much to look for in this set for an adult... I think the parts are average at best, and if we do have a set with lots of basic bricks, then i'd prefer it to be a castle, not Sponge...
  22. most of my instructions and catalogs are in a large lego box, like the viking fortress, MF,... or in the original box.
  23. it depends... in some cases, i just buy sets for the parts so i won't build them, like my 2nd atat a few years back. My first atat lasted only for a couple of weeks. others barely survive 1 day, like the MF sometimes sets are on display for whatever reason. The uplink and the longboat for instance, are still in one piece, mostly because i don't need the parts right now... other sets go straight to the collection. if it's a second or third copy of a set, it'll most likely stay MISB, if it's the first, i'll probably build it, put it in a plastic bag or the original box and store it, or i'll dismantle it first, depending on the size of the set...
  24. great review yoda still, i don't think i'm gonna buy this. 150
  25. - you have to add about $25 to the original $50 dollars if you want to know what you actually paid for this set in 1996 (inflation, remember). So if they'd release it today, it would cost about $75. That's a hell of a lot compared to 461 parts! the santa f
