ok... in 90 minutes we'll know... we'll know if ronaldo is more thinking about belgian chocolates then about football, if ronaldinio is hiding a burn out behind his big smile if there's anything more behind their game then just heresy... they've been highly criticised for their first game, now we'll see if they have an answer... they should be able to win, 3-0; 4-0, but we'll see

I didn't want to screw up the city contest topic by adding this BS find of a city, but this would be my winner! now, this really feels like a city!

then why did they loose 3-0 against czech rep?

wow, i've never thought to put westerns in perspective like this... your a very smart man brickster !!! it's hard to argue the other way, after realizing this !!! see, i've always been told that westerns were VERY popular in europe, it was hard for me to comprehend. but now it makes a lot of sense !!! i shouldn't say too much,... but its my next MOC !!! *sweet* *sweet* *sweet* no it wasn't very popular in Europe. late 90's are being marked here in Belgium , as extremely low interest years ... Up untill a few years ago they still had western sets, town sets, space, castle... from 1995-1999 in all the shops. Shop owners complained about the lousy sets, about sets they just couldn't sell... Perhaps it doesn't really have anything to do with popularity at all... Take vikings, very popular, but extremely short lived.

hm... italy will have to win against czech rep. hm... if kohler is back on board, as they all hope, then they may have a shot against the Italians. Sure, the italians have brilliant players, but they can't seem to play any other game then what they usually do, like the game we've seen against the US. Don't really play aggressively when it's needed, they're still waaay too much focused on defence even when they really need to score... it will be an interesting game, provided kohler joins the band... Ghana is called "Little Brazil" for a good reason. They have a great team that should be able to beat the US. My guess is that Ghana will win the group, Italy, second.

the offsides will always be problematic... the cards were al justified, really. A few referees analysed case after case and they all would have done the same thing...
-
the italians are just not playing the way they should. it's not fast enough... they lost Totti which is the main director of Italy's game... they're just not playing very well... however, it should have been 2-1 for the italians... the goal was valid this referee is kinda weird... he clearly compansated the italians when he kicked out the American player... that's the way it goes in these games... referees aren't really impartial or corrupt, they just feel at one point they've made a mistake, took a wrong decision , so they try to compensate at some point... yep , it's pretty shitty, but that's the way it goes

ok..; so i finally got my spectacular game: usa-Italy... unfortunately, the player of the game isn't a member of a team, but the referee... g... 3 red cards and a buch of yellows!! another 5 minutes and still 1-1, even tho the second goal of the Italians was valid!! Quality is rather low, i'm afraid to say. a decent italian team would crush the US! But then, who in his right mind would replace Totti?! For whatever reason? g...

it reminds me of this one: 1621 it's more or less the same mechanism, right? Where's your space astronaute sitting? I would also add gas tanks and get a large container at the back.

hm... first of all, there's the question of sub forums... EB's structure has already become complicated, if you're asking me. Sometimes, when people reform old structures, there's a danger of doing too much and you loose the originel soul in the process...

yep, Argentina and Spain are by far the most interesting for the moment. Before the tournement I would have added Mexico to those as well, but for some reason they seem to have faded away... I do agree with your analysis of the French team... They've lost the brain of the team with Leblanc, so now they're running around with no clear tactics. Then they get Barthez back, who's really not the best keeper of France anymore, but a very good friend of the old gang, so... hopla! here he sudenly is again, brobably highly surprised himself! I do feel for Henri, though. a fantastic player who now has to deal with a buch of players who simply can't follow the game anymore... and they still haven't played against brilliant teams yet... It is a shame though that Ivory Coast no longer has any chance to get to the second... Many used to play for a Belgian football club and they really played fantastic back then. Even Anderlecht didn't stand much of a chance against them, and they were playing CL at that time with people like Kohler, who's just been injured whilst playing for his country a few days back... :'-( Did you guys see the FIFA ranking? it's hilarious! The United States is according to that ranking the number 5 or 6 in the world! Imagine that! G... even Belgium wouldn't have a hard time beating them, and though we're 56 or something...

ooops... i do apoligise for the blasphemy :-$ :-$ :-P

i agree with you snefroe1. i think poor sets design, and handling of the sub-theme was why the indian sets failed... not because of movies. however, i DON'T think that is why the theme was canceled. there were still a lot of possibilities in the theme... like a ghost town sub-theme. no political issues there.as brickster brought up, these are some of the most detailed figs LEGO ever produced. don't think that helps. as i said before, the islanders were a much better sub-theme, and they are less detailed, and have less overall minifigs (only three as opposed to five). because of the path that LEGO took with the indians, it really limited the set design... i mean, how many different ways can you build an indian village ??? with the cowboy/bandit line, we had a gold mining town, a calvery fort, a bandit hideout, covered wagon, basically A LOT OF DIFFERENT old west themes. with the indian sets, we saw villages, that is it. with no conflict to play out. I don't think it's fair to say that the islanders were better or more popular than the indians. If you check the ratings of both themes on BS, you'll see the sets are both in the same category, between 65-78. Maybe there was a problem with the roleplaying. It is said that lego doesn't produce females cos no boy wants to play with female figs. He doesn't want to be the girl. When i was young and we played cowboys and indians, nobody wanted to be the indian either. So it's not a surprise that the cowboy sets were far more popular than the Indian sets. Nowadays, it seems to me that, because of cultural changes, nobody wants to be the cowboy either. And let's face it, why would you wanna continue a line that was only successful in the US, that in the end, only takes up 20% of your turnover, when the rest of the world seems to ignore it? Sure, a ghost town would have been fine, but not for lego if those sets were only bought by a meaningless number of people.

Even though, you people, may glorify all your teams, i still haven't seen any spectacular game, i'm afraid to say: The Dutch are through, but their game was really shaky yesterday. The Germans only scored at the last minute in their second game against a team that was really on the defence. Sure, they're going to the second, but I don't see them playing the finals... not this time... More or less the same happened to the UK if i'm not mistaken. They haven't really been tested yet, so we'll see how this goes... The French? Not really sure what they're doing there. many players are more concerned about what to do after their retirement, then with playing a good game. I hope they'll seriously improve their game or it's gonna be another Waterloo for them...

yes, the islanders !!! i agree, though (as much as i hate to admit it) the islanders were a much better sub-theme to the pirates, than the indians were to the WW.still, the painted horses of the indians are very VERY cool!!! - BrickMiner The indians were a great asset for the Wild West theme, but, as we mentioned in another topic a while back, I think Lego decided not to take that path in order to avoid political trouble. But that also makes Wild West in general problematic. After all, how can you create a decent theme if you can't base it on "cowboys and indians"? I guess they couldn't find an answer to that and dropped the line all together... I wasn't really fond of Indians after purchasing my first few sets (mainly because of the set designs). But over the years. I grew an appreciation for them. I think the figs were some of the most detailed and best figs Lego ever made. Take a look: And in terms of the sets themselves, they're really not that bad. They are very unique and sets like Boulder Cliff and Rapid River are pretty nice with their mountains and stream baseplates. I esp. like the teepees and the canoes. In terms of why the sub-theme wasn't very popular;I think it wasn't the "politically correct" issue at all, but rather the lack of populartity with westerns. Kids just aren't in to Wild West any more. i think they are! Remember the success of Pocahontas? I think it's the context surounding the Indians that makes them very sensitive.

just to show our newly appointed city mayor here that i've got more on my mind then legoland space :-P Besides, some one once asked if it was ok to do reviews of old sets - we all said, please do-, but it seems he never got round to actually do one, so here i go... i recently picked up this small lego town set. It's a small bicycle repair shop, first released in 1987: It's what you call "a city substance" set: it's not very big, not all that exciting, but ideal to add to a city that only has a bunch of large houses, a fire station and a police office. The construction of the building is really typical of the days: one wall at the side, a front wall and just two pillars to support a flat roof with some decorated panels on top of it. In fact, even the yellow slopes on the roof aren't really originel. Lego used those rather often, as a decorative element. I'm not too fond of the colour combination, but i guess they had some left overs lying around after having designed the old airport... the front wall is made up by red windows, no longer the 4x3 classic windows, but the brand new large ones, again, ideal to build houses and shops . Some even may say it's the start of juniorisation, but i like them a lot... the door isn't really stable without the roof, contrary to the old door that was most of all fixed to the ground plates, but in the case of the news doors... weeeeell... the door just very often fell down before you had the chance to get roof on top of it... another typical element of any lego building: there's an open backside, allowing small and large hands to get in there ... and it was cheaper that way... to the right you see a blue brick that's supposed to be a cash register and probably some sort of a table to show helmets and things. it's all rather primitive, but hey,... we are talking about 1987! still light years away from R2D2! at the center you'll most likely be looking at a desk, and there's your repair shop or hall to the left... I think the set has a lot to offer for 7 pounds: a nice building, 1 bicycle, 2 motorcycles and two minifigs! It's also an ideal combination with a few other sets, also released in the mid 80's, like: a motor cycle transport a motorcycle dealer a motorcycle another motorcycle transport the box is surprisingly small of which this is the back side: god i loved those motorcycles! :-$ they 're a lot smaller than the current version, but it was very popular back then... more info on lugnet info on BL info on peeron

1) i think it's pretty stupid to limit the auction to only people who are able to collect it. He/she should propose a deal, like splitting up the shipment into four parts or so... That way, he would attract people from Europe but mostly, Americans. They love lego sw... 2) if this price goes up it'll most likely be at the last minute

Great use of colour Shakar - IF YOU USE THE BATMAN SKIN! it was really hard to work out what your post was using the standard viewer, but yep. I think its a silly price, but if some sad American collector with more cash than sense wants it, good on the seller. I havn't been able to get classic paradiso sets for my daughter as the prices have been bid way over my limit by crazy yanks as some sets were not available over there. Jof you might want to try ebay... i find MISB sets of paradisia fairly often at reasonable prices there

thanks for the info! *sweet*
