Brick Testament: Education or Exploitation?
snefroe replied to Norrington's topic in General LEGO Discussion
well we've had these discussions about the Testament before, it seems we never really come to a final conclusion, the community always seems split about this. I've only taken the time to go through "Jesus is born". i don't know if that gives a good picture of the entire work, but based on that, I don't really see the harm in his work. i would have used another minifig for Mary, sure. But most of all, I don't think this is a direct reference to Christianity. It's so much focused on just telling a story that it completely misses the point the authers of the Gospels were trying to make. It doesn't explain the Bible, nor Christian believes... For instance, the Testament talks about Mary being a virgin, and staying that way after having given birth. He seems to approach that from a sexual/humoristic point of view, which is fine by me, even though teachers may disagree, but there's a religious aspect about the virginity that just doesn't seem to be mentioned. This testament is, i.e. a story, but by no means a good representation of "the Bible". a document does not become a religious work by just adding some quotes here and there. and because of that, Christians should ignore this as a Lego representation of the Bible. It's just a story and should only be seen as that. Sure, i can understand that Christians aren't really happy, but I don't think it's damaging the Bible either... so i don't think either options of the poll are right. It doesn't teach a new generation much about the Bible, nor do i think it's too violent, but he's walking a very thin line here. If you'd do a remake of star wars and only focus on the violence, then you're result will lead to an extremely violent movie, only te be watched by adults -
i'd love to do that with mocs of mine, however, i've never been able to cut my model out of its original frame into another background without having to spend lots and lots of time and even then it never really looked good, and i always got the feeling that the moc was simply put on another layer underneath the moc instead of having one layer that integrates both background and model. i don't have any problem like that in corel draw, but the photoshop thing i never really did master...

very nice yoda! don't you just love this fella *wub* :-$ *wub*

great site and great work! reminds me to take some time off and have a good look at photoshop!

well either Mike replaced some parts including the red helmet, or the seller did, that's for sure, but that's ok, i'll just pick up a helmet some place else. some of the parts are seriously yellowed, but for some reason are very clean. I'm not sure what i'll do, but i may just keep the original parts together. Yellowed parts is not so great, but at the same time, they add a nostalgic touch to the model... :-$ it is btw, very normal that sellers change parts here and there. Very often there's an original brick missing, like a blue one with the space logo or the one with the white arrow. it's pretty difficult to check the goods on ebay that closely... anyway, not that it matters if you get a box in a good condition for a reasonable price, there's always bl

lol!! not bluish grey though, but good old fashioned old grey :-$ *wub* some parts are just severely yellowed, making the others look like anoter, brand new color i still have to clean up the set/box

We all get upset when we hear certain sets will only appear in the US, not in the rest of the world. That is by no means a recent phenomenon. In fact, it

winston churchill was famous for his quotes. at one point he was having a drink at some reception for whatever political party, in fact he'd been drinking quite a lot already, and the female chairman of another political party said to him "Mister Churchill, you're drunk!" he replied: "Yes, and you're ugly, but, tomorrow i'll be sober again!" brilliant :-P if that doesn't shut you up... :-D

snefroe replied to rexcal's topic in LEGO Events and User Groups
congrats to rexcall! *sweet* i swear, i felt a wave of disappointment in that small room when she picked out that name. X-D but don't you dare ever falling back to your dark age, or we just may have to ask you to return the Falcon X-D >:-) also, a great many thanks to Jamie for coordinating the raffle... X-D -
so... what were the extras and the extra extras, you ask... time to show you those as well: this beatifull vignette was created by Copmike and given to all of the "3-days-eventees" :-$ and this cup was part of the extra package that jp and yoda organised for us :-$

well people of all ages make stupid mistakes, i guess she didn't not evaluate the situation all too well, probably underestimated the machine's speed or distance. still, a strange and sad story...

the train shed was 74 euro, -10%: 67 euro or so. i thought of buying it but didn't. NO CAFE CORNER, i don't think they're expecting new ones due to insufficient production. in fact, we didn't buy all that much here, just bricks. to my knoledge, there were no fantastic offers. the discount tent wasn't very interesting either. most sets were not really on discount, in most cases price was 1 euro less than retail price... nobody really checked our passes when we bought sets, the just recognised the card from a distance, no questions asked...

Sort on! I'd also want to thank Copmike for this FANTASTIC gift: Thanks so much buddy :-$

well actually, i'll always remember this event for this: later on the evening i was sitting in kim and morten's room and the swedes where there as well, sometimes, they just spoke swedish to each other and that usually led to kim and morten to imitate the swedish chef of the muppets, as if they were to say that swedish language sounded like bollocks... however, to me, a Belgian, Swedish AND danish sounded (sounds) like pretty much the same: bollocks! X-D off caurse, i never said that out loud, otherwise i wouldn't be writing this post right now.... i'm not suicidal just yet X-D :-| anyway, ras' comment was always the same: "GET TF OUT OF MY OFFICE!!!" , in fact, come to think of it, he pretty much said that every 30 seconds of the 3 days... it kinda replaced Yoda's "I MEAN YOU NO HARM" which was the major hit last year. g..; there's gotta be a new title in here somewhere.... ;-) I do wonder where he picked it up from, though... he gave this complicated explenation that involved a "Friends" episode, but my guess is that he's hearing that sentence week after week when he goes to his boss to ask for a raise... :-P still, both danes and swedes must have heard my thoughts, cos i also heard another statement, first it was only a whisper, only spoken by the very brave, but soon repeated by the viking masses all over the country. it went like: "BLAME THE FRENCH, PUNISH THE BELGIANS" that was kinda disturbing , i can tell you... 8-| , worse, i'm afraid this was kinda a too generalised statement realy... it was more like: "BLAME THE FRENCH, PUNISH SNE!!!"... :-X so there's still hope for Khorne i guess... :-D this bold statement was, however, more than just bold words from four-five drunken barbarians from the north... cos the next day i nearly drowned in water during a brutal and vicious attack attack from the vikings in the "Pirate splash" or something. Or, as a viking later on explained it to me "concentrating all water cannons on one particular point", again, according to this viking, it was Yoda who shouted outloud: "SNEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE".... :-X NEVER TRUST THE FRENCH, I say... in any xase, yoda, that promo plane you asked me to look for at stuttgart airport will now find it's way to an ebay buyer, i'm afraid... :-X :-P BUT, what i remember the most of that water episode, was the very beginning of the game. we were all waiting in line to get a boat. but at the same time, other people were already in boats and instead of firing at marked targets, they were firing at people who were standing in the fireline... including these so-called brave and fearless vikings... i tell you, they were surprisingly fast at ducking to the ground, screaming like like a little girl who's has just seen her first big black hairy spider... :-P a little drop of water caused so much panick, you'd even wonder how on earth we got them on board of a ship :-| still, i got my victory later on the second evening when i and these morons did this quiz. naturally, i won hands down :-| .... voil

yeah i'm still hoping for a spitfire, but i think the series in no longer amongst the living :-X

hm... i think it's allowed to have an alien vs minifig conflict, in that context, taking some one as a prisoner wouldn't be a problem, as in the castle theme... "hunting" innocent aliens to use them as bio fuel is a different thing

well if you're flight is SK0668, then it's been cancelled :-X -
are you kidding me? WWI was far worse than WW2, in terms of military activity/misery... battles with a million people all doing different jobs, regiments completely shot to pieces in their first contact with the enemy, fighting in between ruined villages and cities, in muddy grounds, millions of fire granates, bombs, machine guns, crappy tanks, cavalry, a war underground when soldiers tried to dig tunnels to the other side,.... Where do you think the notion "shell shock" comes from? what do you think? that all these soldiers where silently sleeping in their trenches, waiting for some sunny weather to get up and fight? The difference is that the battle field wasn't global, it was basically limited to the european/russian continent, but the intensity of the war has never been greater than 1914-1918. even d-day wasn't all that huge compared to the major battles of WWI... the problem with WWI is that it never got media/hollywood attention of WWII, most of all because the US was hardly involved, so nobody in the media industry really cared, but honestly, the crap of the trenches in flanders and the mess in the French forest at the Somme was far worse than the battle of the bulge, not only in terms of scale, but also in misery i'm not sure if it's called "the still war", but i do know it was called "the great war"

well the metal saw has something to do with it, i was told, but should not be regarded as an actual clue. For instance, it could have been used to open a box that's filled with extras... my guess is those two swedes are criminals and they needed a metal saw to open the doors of their local toy shop's storage facility. once the doors are open, they have to deal with the guarddogs, that's where this tube comes in. it's either a flute that ras or mike will use to get those dogs hypnotised for a while, or it's a weapon to be used with small darts... and so what's in the storage facility? hm... i'm guessing a UCS MF for each of us. Unfortunately ras told me it's not the MF, but i think that was a trick to deceive me :-X :-P

hm... using an alien lifeform as fuel is not only cruel, it's so highly questionable in terms of morality that i can't see Lego supporting this idea. Maybe it's bio fuel in a young boy's mind, but i'm guessing here that these spheres are prisons.
