  1. well the red space guy is the "most classic" of all space dudes, so i'll get a bunch of this set to replace older torsos if the price is not that bad... the helmet is from the second generation. the old helmet turned out to be fairly fragile and was replaced by this one, which was also the one to carry the large visors. the fire dude is not the best fig ever but still pretty classic, i think. the others are to be ignored in my book... i'd rather had a pirate fig, a western soldier and a paradisa girl
  2. no, i don't think we have a forum like that... Eb has always been a site about news, but feel free to post. We'll gladly give you feedback
  3. that is great news!! hope they're not glued!
  4. great! another belgian! wll... for as long as the country's still around! welcome to this weird bunch of lego freaks here on EB. you'll find almost any type of human, alien and jedi here... and probably a few Vaders, some Yodas and a couple of Swedes... hope you have loots of fun here!
  5. well i think they already reduced the number of catalogs compared to a few years back when they released 4 big catalogs every year... i don't mind having a smaller catalog, honestly. Lately, they've been copying old catalog pages into the new catalog, like many of the city pages, i don't need to have that. basically, i just need to know what's new, that's all. I used to be quite fanatical about collecting catalogs, now they're no longer of an interest to me. Besides, we get all the new info long before the catalog is distributed and there's too much stuff in there i really don't need to see... i also think smaller catalogs are better for the environment. and then there's the internet. why have a paper book with still images if you create a film on the internet? the catalog is just a marketing tool after all, it needs to sell sets, nothing more... clearly, it has lost its pole position in Lego's marketing strategy. so be it...
  6. well i think lego has already tried to create alternative models and put the instructions on the internet. Given the importance of internet, i'd say they'll most likely go for a digital version of a book instead of paper. much cheaper in every way, unfortunately
  7. if i remember correctly, several members have asked about the idea books throutout the years on EB... the conclusion always was that we're sorry not having them anymore. i don't think we ever asked lego why they're no longer producing them, however, i can think of several reasons: 1) the books were spin-off products of the regular line. Lego probably saw them as a marketing tool, so when money needed to be saved, they were the first to go, not being part of the core business 2) i think they're expensive to produce: creating all those models and scenes, not to mention the graphics probably was VERY expensive in terms of man power. Basically, creating a book is like creating several new sets for every major line. that's gotta cut deep into Lego's finances 3) i don't think the books were very popular. if i remember this well, i bought my "6000" idea book because there was no set left in the shop that i liked... if a child has to chose between a set and a book, what will most likely come out of it as the winner? think it's the set 4) don't think the toy shops are interested in those either. after all, an idea book doesn't really help to sell sets, they're selling stories or lego in general, not to mention the fact that many shops aren't suited to show these books really well. they don't belong on a shelf but on some sort of stand, like in most cases the catalogs... very often there's just no room for those... To me , they've always been a huge inspiration. Idea book 6000 is one of my all time favorite lego products. the yellow castle in there has been an example for so many castles... "Town" was brilliant too... and then there were these brilliant space ships... hours i spent with that book in my hands... no wonder the current condition of that book is really bad... i'll just buy one on BL one day... the other book i grew up with was the old 225 this book was from 1977-1978. the lego family was still dominating the catalogs, so it's only natural to find the family in this idea book too... i never cared for those though... what i liked most of all, were the large cars, the boats,... all models larger than minifig scale, more like the old "expert series"
  8. ah! finally some one who stays on topic!
  9. i've always considered those to be wings of some kind, not functional wings, but more like bars to support the construction of the model. Many space designs have these support bars instead full walls or floors to save weight... think it's kinda like that... look at the wings at the back. they have this green light. think in a real space craft you'd have a support bar with a light onto it, instead of a full wing... and i guess the astronaut is also supposed to use those bars at the side to reach for his seat... never saw these as thrusters or anything. for thrusters they would have needed a 1x1 cone think it's time for you to go to the next level and do some larger models now
  10. ok... this does sound bad! no more huge box with parts? that sucks! wtf? they're discouraging people buying more? what kind of company is this? usually, you pay LESS when you buy more... my guess is they either have a major problem in supplies or they want to discourage bricklink this way... still, this sucks BIG time! guess we'll have to buy stuff in smaller bits then!
  11. well i've been to dubai about 5 years ago and: 1) the weather can be really hot and dry... great to preserve plastic parts, but not so good for us, humans... 2) they do have Ikea, so the Swedes should feel right at home there 3) they do sell lego there in large shops... i even found the UFO space promo sets from shell there 4) the buildings there ARE amazing and petrol is cheap 5) i'm not surprised about the news though... Dubai set up a program to attract tourists several years ago. They want to have a solid tourist industry by the time the oil runs out in 20 years or so, so they build all sorts of stuff to attract rich western tourists. They also have a big tennis tournement, a giant diamond polishing industry,... The country really is filthy rich though... even bathrooms in public buildings like shopping malls are so luxurious that you think you're the next Khalif in town...
  12. "Space docking bay has shut its doors" ... wow... that... that... kinda .... sounds.... harsh... the idea to merge all sci-fi subthemes into one forum is threefold: 1) no subforums makes it easier for us, members, to find our way through it all. no questions about what goes where or anything... if it's sci-fi then just drop it into the big forum 2) i suggested merging the smaller subs when i heard that exo force was on its way out. that would probably also have a negative impact on the mecha popularity, so the mecha genre would probably lose some activity too... i hate standing still in a universe that is changing so fast, so i mentioned merging all the smaller genres... 3) merging the subs into one will hopefully lead to some crossover posting, a bit like EB in the early days: every member used to post in a large variaty of lego themes, so hopefully all subs will benefit from the merge... voilà, that explains it... i will try to start up the reviews of older space sets though... i do have a bit more time now... i'll just write them at work and add the photos in the evenings talking of tags... where's my tag?
  13. yeah, it's pretty cool, pretty expensive too, considering some of those parts are quite rare. what i would prefer though is the magnatiser as a basis for the truck, but build with only the parts of a specific theme... quite a challenge, imo
  14. so this set today in the shops! 49 euro! g... 10 euro more than in France... we must have done something wrong here in Belgium to be punished by the Danish gods like this...
  15. ah! well in that case, it's no trouble at all! the only problem you may have is the fact that the wheel may be revolving around the axl.
  16. no i dont remember ever having seen a (nearly) complete list on EB, try classic-space. i believe they have a few tutorials or examples on techniques...
  17. yeah, the axl is the only way out. the problem i had when i created my pods, is that there's not much room inside to create a real solid structure but if you don't ave to fit in a minifig or so inside, i guess you've got room enough...
  18. that is bad news you say? as usual you are far too diplomatic, my Viking buddy! this is megablocking terrible! really really really horrible! i'd rather have a metorite crashing down on earth whiping out the human race than this!! oh noooo!! this is baaaad!! how am i supposed to keep on living now? after all hope is gone? oh noooo.... this is a nightmare... please please please, tell me this is just one of your dreadfull and misplaced jokes, tt
  19. Happy birthday buddy! hope you're having a megablocking brilliant day!! and we WILL celebrate this in Billund at the event, even though we say that with every one's birthday every year and we always forget ! hope you have looooots of fun (and lego) TT
  20. a theme would be out of the question for me... a theme usually is a series of small to large playable sets, set in a simplistic, stereotyped story. Steampunk is quite the opposite: usually it's a stand-alone and highly complicated display set, that leaves more questions than it answers. it's appealing to a small group of (adult) and experienced fans who like this weird combination of fantasy, 18-19th century industrial development, and some kind of science, leading to creations that would never ever see reality in our "real world". It kinda reminds me of the two new space sets: when we first heard of the creation of space sets we were all hoping for big detailed space ships, instead we got something that hardcore space fans may not dislike, but don't love either. it's some sort of play set with some interesting parts for adults... i'm sure steampunk would go the same way, not to mention the vast number of "illegal" techniques many steampunk fans use... Honestly, expectations would be so high that lego only could, and probably would, screw up...
  21. well i think we sorta discussed this before. apart from the quality of the Indian sets, indians are just not popular in any kind of Western theme. When we played "cowboy and Indians" when we were young, nobody wanted to be the Indian, because he was boring, not exciting, not interesting and a loser. let's face it, what kid is interested in a tomahawk or a knife if you can be the guy with the gun? What kid is interested in the deeper impact of white men's behavior towards the Indian culture? Kids identify themselves with heroes and in Westerns, none of the Indians are heroes(thanks very much Hollywood!). very often they're not even the bad guys. They're just part of the story, very often in the background with a story that just isn't appealing to young kids. at least the cavalry allows you to build armies. the Indians.... well... who wants to build a village with 500 tipis or so? i like the Indians though... i've got multiples of all indian sets... think the minifigs are amongst the most beautiful of the entire catalog...

    SNOT in 1983

SNOT is soooooo much older. take a look at a majority of the sets from the Lego family, mid 70's... practically everything was SNOT back then
  23. tks my master! yeah, the CCCP - nazi thing is quite strange... it's as if lego is trying to set the scene in another timeframe because of the bad connotation of the nazis. i guess they feel CCCP or the Sovjet Union no longer carries the emotions from the Cold War. Still, it's a weird decision. Maybe they should just have deleted the stickers all together and kept an aleminium look, like they did with the Santa Fé wagons... it sure will be cool to mod this plane though!
  24. ok... i thought this was a Dakota airplane, or the dc-3 as some one else said... didn't know the russians had these too... must have been sold then during WW2... it's not a bad plane but it need some serious work... especially the wings don't look all that great... still, it's a great set!
  25. happy birthday guys! enjoy your day!
