a great small set! i remember this set most of all because of the inverted window screen. loooooved the chopper, but never got it... another "5" please
-
no question. this is a "5" one of the best and most influencial town sets ever, imo

did you replace some cylinders there? in those days those cylinders had a solid stud, instead of a hollow one, right? i never had this set, but as a kid I would have bought space first of all anyway. this truck just isn't appealing to me for several reasons: 1) think it has a lack of playability: a fire truck should be more than just a ladder on top and something i would not be able to identify ... i gues it's an auxiliary power unit? 2) 2 figs would have been waaay better! in those days, we were most of all interested in building an army of firefighters. i didn't really need firesets to build a fleet of trucks, i could always build those myself... 3) i'm surprised to see the printed 1x4 at the front, instead of modified bricks... this set looks waaaaay older than 1979...

well i did look into this color evolution a very long time ago and I believe that Lego added a large amount of blue guys in the last years of classic space. my guess is they did that because they wanted to get rid of the stocks... classic space was on its way out, after all...

i think we only got Shell stations in europe in the 80s... Never got this one, but it looks like a typical Lego gas station ... once again, i just don't know how you were able to keep stickers and prints in such a great condition! i am sooooo jealous! the tires of the cars are a problem though... it was difficult and painful to put them off the wheel and back on later... the black hat... g... i would have looooooved to have that when i was a boy...

hmmmm. unless you've written the link in invisible ink, my guess is you forgot to add them... so i'll be sitting on the floor instead of in your furniture...
-
people giving this "1"? g... i'd give it a "4". i'd give it a "3" but added a point out of nostalgia... i think it's a nice town set from the old days. the only problem i always had is the lack of an ambulance... AND we got a female doctor! :-)

well i'm not so keen on getting new themes, really. more themes means smaller themes, limited in time, for let's say 2 years or so... like Vikings... I'd rather have fewer lines but more sets ....

well it looks as if it's a fairly easy job, because all these parts on the Galaxy Explorer are well known and used to be mass produced by Lego. But most have gone now, like the support bricks for the spoilers, the wing parts... then there are the printed parts: the old computers, the white arrow,... the molds are still there, no doubt, but putting those back into the system would cost a lot too I think, if they're still compatible with the current production line. Other parts have changed, like the windscreen and the 2x2x3 cone... then there's the color... there's no old grey anymore... that makes it practically impossible to reproduce a copy of the Galaxy Explorer. I think most space fans would feel it's blasphemy to build a galaxy explorer in new grey... and i agree... honestly, I think Lego can only burn her fingers by reproducing this.

pretty nice indeed! unfortunately, the Bastille was never taken by force like this. the Bastille was a prison-mental institution for rich people at the time, with only three well taken care off prisoners inside... However, the Bastille was a place with an armory, in case the army needed to defend the city against threats from the outside, so the mob went to the Bastille to get guns to fight the army, not to liberate people. after a while of banging on the door a few leaders of the mob were allowed in to negociate over dinner, but at some point the mob got restless, thinking their leaders had been locked up instead. Eventually, to avoid a bloodbath, the doors of the Bastille were opened and the mob got in, killing the officer who was in charge...

i think this is one of those sets that never really got the attention it deserved. it's a beautiful set of the first wave of town sets, but maybe there just wasn't enough action or excitement to get the boys onboard...
-
btw, what i really hated about the older space sets was that you often had to get an antenna through the modified plate, as you can see on brickster's last photo. very often there was A LOT of friction between the ring and the antenna, and several of these rings just broke off when i was young... I lost some ladders too, btw... RIP

well the thing isn't so much that we'll get a return of pirates or not, the thing is, if they do return, how will these sets look like? if i look at MM sets, i really do wonder if i should be soooo incredibly happy with the return of space... btw, we've been seeing signs for a few years now, sure, at some point we may be right... nothing says we'll be getting them any time soon though

"don't worry about the box"? are you insane?
-
well it's a great idea to make a tribute like that! and thank god we got lots of other sets to make tributes for too!

the '200 is one of the most brilliant designs Lego ever produced for a spaceship. we'll just ignore all the things modern space freaks are very sensitive about, like the huge holes in the cockpit... the bad thing about this design is the back side. the ship hardly has anything we call engines.... a shame... the pods on the side are also fairly primitive, because they're made of classic bricks... they also make the ship quite heavy and there's hardly any room inside of them but those are just minor flaws... i bought this in the shop in 2001 for less than 25 euro; Being the moron that I am, i opened the box instead of buying a second hand one on BL
-
eh.... don't you guys know they're dropping the line? that's what i heard anyway...
-
ok... so i'll just confess, ok? i don't have this one it's my personal missing link of classic space. it looks sooooo great though.... except for the front... i always had a problem with the 1 by 4 plate just infront of the wings... it just never looked like a ferrari in space because of it... apart from that... i curse myself not having this....
-
this brings back memories... i'd totaly forgoten about those craters! nope, Lego would never get away with that today! still, we were all so amazed by those space sets back then, we just couldn't care about it! the only bad thing is this set where the seats. astronautes having to take off their tanks?! WTF?! that was blasphemy!!! thank god Lego realised that mistake and never did that again! it still is a fairly boring base though... no rocket launcher! ... .... but a grey antenna!!
-
this was my first space set ever!! 1979, 1980... don't know anymore, but i do remember i got this together with 897 for my birthday when we where camping... with a little luck i may even have an old film from my dad, opening the boxes... well what to say... it looked soooooo aggressive with those two engines! but i never knew why you needed two steering wheels on it... they probably just thought a symmetrical model was better .... i can't blame them... what a nice set.... it would even sell today, no doubt... looooots of swooshability...
-
wooow! what a set!! not all that large, most defenitely not as sophisticated as the message intercept base from 10 years later, but in those, this was all a kid need to have hours of fun. soooo many great parts on this one.... technic hoses, computers, rocket parts, trans yellow parts... the perfect outpst really... it was actually my sister who got this one, but it only took an hour before i claimed it...
-
yet another great review from the man of the Far West who's venturing out into space, so it seems... this is an UGLY set... i discovered it when i first started to explore the internet. yep, it's one of those US-only sets, sets, that we, poor Europeans, never saw... i probably would have bought it though... g... green windows... btw, you're printed parts still look like gold!! what's the trick? build it and never ever touch it again?
-
never had this base, the mother of all space stations... it must have been highly sophisticated back then, but even by the mid 80's, this must have looked primitive and out of date... still, it's one of those sets that never lose that aura... and then there are the printed parts and the flag... those are still golden nuggets in the space community...
-
i never really liked this one... it all looked a bit over sized... however.... a yellow minifig!!!! and four ladders!!!!! in my book, very very very very rare!! i guess Lego was looking for some replacement sets at the time... 6822, 899, 894 most defenitely needed some update and no doubt 6880 filled it up quite nicely, for a few years anyway...
