  1. ok... a bit late, but happy birthday, Mike. Hope you enjoed your day, even if it was protecting the Minister with your life... and no doubt you will have celebrated this day by giving yourself a gazillion lego sets, so let's have it then... a couple extra UCS MF's, a few modular buildings, a truckload of exclusives of whatever kind... hmmm police salaries must be seriously high in Sweden...
  2. I watched "Die Welle" ("The Wave") yesterday... it's a German remake of the older "The wave". The film tells the story of a teacher who starts a movement at school, the movement soon spinns out of control and becomes kinda fascist... The teacher, however, succeeds in stopping the movement and thus shows how easy it is to establish a dictatorship in a modern society... It was pretty facinating, even though the German film doesn't stick as close to the real event as the American version of the past. and the teacher is pretty good...
  3. we used to have a lego show as well in the early 80's. think it must have been 1981 or 1982, in any case, the white-grey spaceship had already arrived in the shop, but no grey castle just yet... I belief our show was at the center of Antwerp, in this stylish shop called "Innovation" or "Grand Bazaar", compare it if you will with "Kaufhof" in Germany. They had this big exhibition on lego models and i remember the big space scene, which was quite similar to the 1984 one in this topic. it was made up of those trans dark blue space windscreens (of the white-grey spaceship)... as a spacefreak... that was... simply amazing. I remember the grammophone, even though i may have seen that in a brochure on the net or something. Still, most other parts of the exhibition were similar to the 1984 show, unfortunately, i can't remember it all very well. I must have been 8 or 9 and nobody carried a cell phone with a camera back then... I went there with the sister and mom twice, but we never took pictures ... yes, lego was very primitive... i guess it's like a car of the 50s... many old people would love to have one of those classics, but the younger generations would probably go like "g... this thing doesn't have an mp3 player and where the heck is the airco?" oh well... it's still a great memory... I was thinking of going to the archives of the antwerp newspaper to see if they had any photo or article, but it's still on my 'to do list', i'm affraid... btw, did you guys read the space story? engineers dealing with meteors destroying buildings... no weird aliens killing space cops, no trucks in space... no shooting mechanisms... ahhh... the world was so simple back then...
  4. well i find the engine a bit too simple. it's a nice model, but is it really that difficult to build a model like this when you're a lego designer with a vast supply of any type/color of part? i don't think so. it's a nice model, but not a clever model, it doesn't reflect the great skill of a designer. For that, you kinda need an excellent replica of a real engine, or far more details on this model, details you find very often on real engines like valves, tubes, bells,... it's nice, but it's a missed opportunity to create a stunning model. the coach.... hmmmmmm... i like the colors, but that's also the best part of the coach. there's nothing really that excites me on this coach. it uses the standard parts/format for any coach, so the least you can do is to create a great interior (and the modular houses show that Lego has the skills to do this) but that's really basic and not much changed since the 80's i think... ah... i almost forgot... the doors... nope... not my thing... so, is this worth the money? hmmm... well... if you've bought all sets you like, then just maybe it is... but as a display model? i don't think so...
  5. it looks great, but it lacks grandure, though. in any case, it's gonna be difficult to do better than the previous sets. Hope the interior looks brilliant, i guess we'll see that rather soon. it is already another house at the corner... so i guess they're going for a city block, now?
  6. well i did read about this a loooooong time ago on ebay... i think 1500 is acurate. i belief most of the sets were produced for the german market, as was said, as a promo for washing powder. still, the best source would be The Lego Group. and if you do, please curse them on my behalf for not having produced more of these...
  7. i agree! i would add a stairway around the though, you know, one that's attached to the outside wall of the tower that goes all the way up to the roof. i would also replace the telescope, by a 4x4 or a 2x2 telescope, to give that little bit of magical/fantastic touch...
  8. great work! i never quite liked the MM-stuff, but yours are great!
  9. nice review! i love these western sets, especially the army building sets. this fig is one of the most beautifull i've seen...
  10. great review the thing i like the most on this new set, is that it turns from car into spaceship. I tried to create ships like that in the 80s, but it never worked very well... I do think it's the wrong choice of wheels though... i can imagine that driving around whith these is messy, as you indicated. so they should have opted for some cooler looking wheels... I don't see any use for the "car-mode" as opposed to the "spaceship-mode", honestly. Most planets are rocky, so a car this low isn't going to get very far... still, it looks fine to me... i'd prefer the new prison cage though... the old one never really convinced me and was only intresting because of the parts. On the other hand, I loved the old colors! soooooo tired of white and black...
  11. it looks fantastic! this must be one of those rare mocs where plastic wheels actually look good! also you got the general shape pretty well, i especially like the aft secion. it's not always easy to get the different angles pretty well with plates and bricks, but it seems it work out just fine. hope Lego's watching this! are you, Mr. Lego? i'm think "starcraft licence --> ucs battlecruiser" a shame it's not MF-sized, but i guess that's a WIP, right? as in "hmmm... let's do this thing in miniscale first, we'll get to the real moc afterwards", right?
  12. nice work! i kinda like the yellow speeder, but i would change a few things - get rid of the Lego technic bars at the front. Lego has a gazillion parts these days to build cool looking guns. the same goes for the engines... imo, technic bars, but, most technic parts, actualy, don't really improve the looks of a moc... - i'd also replace the plates at the front by yellow wings, with or without yellow plates on top of them...
  13. best wishes to everyone! Hope 2010 brings everything your heart desires!

    Hangar Bay

that is really great! is there any interior of the space hip as well or is it just mock-up? and btw, why stop here... i'd say that's 25% of the hangar. where's the rest?
  15. wow! so much feel good nonsense in one sentence! Is the eh... time of year finally having an impact on you too? What ever happened to "we're the best, we're Eurobricks, and if our English isn't perfect , screw you!"? Has the EB staff turned from fearless stalions eager to proof themselves to the world turned into lazy old dads with a diper in one hand and 4 year old in the other, thinking "i must not do or say anything unless the lady has approved it?" ah... where's jipay when you need him...
  16. hmmmm... i'm just reviving this topic out of ... confusion... $160 for a rare classic space set is not all that strange. If a MISB classic space set is rare or the set is one of the highlights of the theme, price can go really high... 160... sure... for three figs is insane, but it's not the figs, is it? People who buy this are collectors and they buy this set for just that. it's a very rare set. it pre-dates the 5 minifig sets, we got later on, there's no "legoland"-banner on the set anywhere, nor is there a reference to Samsonite... a yellow fig of 1978-1979 is quite unique too... and btw, guys... there's a part missing on the space ship... maybe that makes it rare as well...
  17. well classic space is like the old language Latin: almost everybody knows about it, quite a few people speak the language, but when you leave the house and go to the city, you won't hear any conversation in Latin... in other words, people building classic space mocs are hard to find I've come across several classic space mocs through out the years, and i did post several of these on EB in the past. i guess you're going to have to browse through this section of the site, as you said...
  18. yes it is an old problem that dates back to the 80's... back then it always a bit darker in grey than the normal grey pieces... Interesting to hear it has the same problem with other colors too...
  19. calm down, people. there are several other sites with instructions for Lego sets. besides, they're probably just updating the site or something... wait a few days...
  20. ah... builders block... hmmm.... yes.... familiar... well first... what's wrong with models you used to make? is there really something wrong with them or are you just trashing them because you can? i'd say, just do something else for a while... drop Lego building untill you get an idea for a moc... a builders block is just your mind saying you kinda need to focus on other stuff for a change...
  21. merry christmas everyone!
  22. well i guess some one was bored and had nothing else to do... great review! a shame you're wasting it on a set like this... ice planet never was a favorite theme of mine and i 'm not so fond of the colors (especially the trans-orange ... or is red?) and the magnets one to forget, i guess, as was the case with most of the later subthemes...
  23. i like this ship... it cant be an easy model to design for Lego designers, especially the cockpit... which is totally absent... they should have dealt with that in a different way... it looks quite big as well... ah yes... i'd like a UCS-version please...
  24. great review! i kinda like this model. the model deserves credit for just looking the way it does. The sub has a completely different shape from what we used to get and they've been very creative with several parts, like the half red cylinders. it's still difficult to see how big it is though... 500 parts for 60 euro... hmmm... sounds expensive...
  25. went to check brickshelf the other day as well... and...the site was down... it's a shame hat a monument in the lego community of that magnitude is in so much trouble. even if lego isn't buying the site, they could easily sponsor the site... they owe brickshelf BIG time, after all...
