"All right, time to leave the civilians alone, most of us can tank them. Sven's ours. Miirym, U'Voros, hang back." Arthur attacks Sven from the Back Row with his Dauntlet Index. Miirym and U'Voros do nothing, moving closer to Princess Ella to protect them.

I have #130 locked in (can we even vote for a Quest that isn't finished? ) for a truly superb use of asynchronous storyletting, but I'm reeeeeally tempted to jump bandwagon to 70. My problem is, I have a lot of favorites among what Arthur's been on--38 (inelligible), 51 (inelligible), 70, 120, 125, all fantastic Quests, all were amazingly fun, all competing for one spot. Which is not to say the others weren't good, or even great, they just weren't "oh yeah, holy cow that was awesome" material (92 and 99 come to mind as "great, but not WOW"-tier). Actually, in truth I should probably move 125 down to this tier due to the slightly-lackluster party dynamic (it still baffles me why it didn't go ten times as far as it did ), but it's selfishly in my favorites for the ending and the reinforcement of Arthur being a Ziegfried.

I really like that there's some duality and some depth behind Warlen's silliness. Heckz did this too, to an extent, but his comedy comes from a very different place--he's funny in the Seinfeld "what a horrible person" sense, whereas Warlen's funny in the "what a silly dork" sense. There's a line in 104 that I think a lot of people glossed over in all the craziness that went down () : I think that and the whole slapping scene a little bit before were where it first clicked for me that there was way more to Warlen than even I had suspected, and TCM has only gotten better and better at developing that dynamic over time.
-
You ever doubted this? Zeph, I'm glad you brought up Quest #70. Forgot what an awesome party that was, and that was one of the categories I needed to fill.
-
Yeah, if I'm being honest, Atramor takes the cake in optimization. I think I just keep forgetting the 132 Heroes exist for whatever reason. That said, I'm surprised more people aren't screaming about Arthur's OP-ness. I've literally perfected a build where literally every upgrade I make is "2+ for the price of 1"--my Dauntlet Index for Humanoids, my Spider Leg for Flying, my Shadeaux Cloak/Tin Armor for SP, etc. Plus, Zepher gave me this awesome Dragon ability for Miirym, one that'll upgrade over time to boot. It's not nearly as optimized as Pie's "I play whatever class I want" strategy, but I don't think I'd want to try to balance for post-139 Arthur. Quoted for truth.

Maybe it's just how I'm reading it, but it seems like Annienal's been consistently uncomfortable with Lind, but yet he pushes her anyway. At the very least, it was specifically mentioned that Lind's kiss made her uncomfortable, so I'm not sure why some people keep seeing it as a grand romantic gesture instead of a rebuffed advance at best (or a creepy squick moment at worst). By contrast, Annie's roleplaying has clearly indicated she feels at least some level of affection for Warlen, albeit not necessarily romantic. (That, by the way, is the big reason I went Dianay instead of Warlienal--though both are still in early stages, Dianay seems to be a little bit further along, with Diana's feelings toward Kiray eminently clear (at least from my perspective ) and Kiray consistently remembering Diana with some affection (again, romantic or otherwise) every time she's met a new Wolfgang member or Assassin (which, by the way, I think it's really cool that every single Quest Kiray's been on has involved the Wolfgang, Assassins, or both--it's one of those happy coincidences that develops the character without having to do any planning ahead at all, and now I think I may have to do a Theatre post on this topic. ). Well put, Water-ninja Down.
-
Both moments on my ballot, though I think I put them in different categories. Good news, then! I've got some villainous NPCs in the works that, while not necessarily "overarching", have at least one return appearance planned after their Quest. I need help in the most original/humorous/optimized character categories, myself. RE: Best romantic relationship: it was a difficult choice between my two main ships, but I eventually went Dianay over Warliennal. Oh yes, I should probably point out my most humorous moment: Karie trying to seduce the Rogues in Quest 93.

You should have Blue Eagle contact Ashanti about the people who "fixed" it last time while he's at it.

To add to WBD's suggestion pile, though, Berserker has a SHIELD-skill that Encourages the entire party when used (or turns into a kickass attack if the party's already Encouraged). As a Barbarian, you do have access to the class, though it is limited in terms of strategy.
-
Yeah, I just submitted my ballot and then edited it later on as I figured out more categories. There's still like 8 or so I just can't decide on.
-
QM Note: Ahh, missed that you'd edited your post. Lemme fix the Round; as a result, Terry is no longer Cursed.
-
U'Voros continues stabbing at the last Civilian A, from the Front Row. Arthur stabs the Civilian Mob C, this time with his Dauntlet Index, from the Front Row. Seeing the Civilians are Blind, Miirym joins in the attack from the Back Row.

Fortunately, the rest of the party has much better luck, with Boris, Ezeran, and Torald bashing their foes into submission. I'll make my decisions on Friday.
-
I'd like to see 141 running a few more days just to get back into the swing of things before I jump back into the Fields, so I'll be keeping the sign-ups open until Friday (which also gives everyone who didn't make it into 141 a full week to sign up for the Fields). I will try to choose the party and get the stats together a bit quicker, though, and I'll probably post the first battle as soon as the party leader makes their decision of where to start, since I know everyone has been waiting patiently.
-
OOC: for the sake of not waiting on actions, since PPJB has been gone 24+ hours: Arthur happens to glance over to the Western front, where Purpearl has just decimated the opposing forces. "Well done, Lady Purpearl," he praises, "you put my Mystic Knight days to shame. Keep it up!"

Going to put this out here so that more people can see it: is anyone willing to help me out with set-building for my Diana Quest and Charis Quest? Do note that one of them involves getting to build an Adult-stage Dragon. ...and I just noticed the battle title for our current fight in Q139. Subtle, Zeph. Reeeeeeal subtle.
-
QM Note: Oh, right, knew I was forgetting something. Although Vermin are normally immune to Wood-elemental damage, the Lush weather does cancel out that immunity.
-
Even having re-read it recently, that whole last battle is still a blur in my mind. Too many people all talking at once, and stuff going on everywhere. As brutal and complicated as the Baltarok final battle was, everyone had at least some idea of what was going on.
-
I loved that. Completely short-circuited one of the most OP enemies ever. The stars must've aligned because I knew we'd have to get a Guardian Angel and I'd next have to get a Special Mirror for it to work, but it totally did. That was a really great moment. Reminds me of the time on Quest 99 that Arthur got Hexed; Grimwald had to roll two Crits in a row in order to cut the puppetstring and free Arthur, otherwise everything would go to hell as a Lucky and Hastened Skirmisher would then attack two Heroes with only Advanced-level stats. Guess what happened: Hero output was pitiful back then, though--Atramor, Nyx, and Cronk were I believe the strongest Heroes around, and even they didn't hit that hard. Also keep in mind, that was back in the days when Poison didn't stack and Witch's SHIELD roll was a single-target Hex (which is appalling by today's standards ).
-
The Crimson Scorpion dagger is a typo--it's supposed to deal Cursed instead of Poisoned. I considered Bleeding for the Rat Club, but given that the enemy itself deals Poisoned it just made more sense. I decided to buff my weapon offerings this Quest after seeing how comparatively little my 104 group has been able to do with the weapons I gave them in their later Quests; additionally, there are other design reasons why Poison just makes the most sense, which you'll see in time. Re-reading that bit with the Sniper, based on the reasoning that he wasn't able to mirror that Special, shouldn't that mean he should have mirrored the Sniper's alternate Special instead? I'm with Zepher's established position on Special Mirror: it may be a pain in the QM's rear, but it's unfair to make it not work for arbitrary reasons. The whole purpose of the roll is to keep QMs' crazy Specials in check, after all.

OOC: I just realized, Free Hits are all screwy because Civilians C have outnumbered us for a while. Not sure how you want to handle the other Rounds, but for this one at least Arthur should have taken a Free Hit from them. "Everyone, leave Civilians B alone, Hoke, Purpearl, and I can handle them." Arthur uses the Phoenix Essence from the Hollow Blade of his Duplovian Swift Halberd on Hybros, then attacks Pongcanis Protestors B with said Duplovian Swift Halberd from the Back Row. Miirym attacks Civilian Mob C from the Back Row. U'Voros attacks Civilian Mob A from the Back Row. Suggested Battle Order: Arthur Vipera Purpearl U'Voros Natasha Hybros Miirym Torc Hoke

QM Note: Mac's inventory has been updated with the last set of items I forgot to include. "He's the one who asked for it, not me." "He probably wants some kinda favor done in exchange for the bones. Shouldn't be too bad, though--he owes me, big time, from the last favor I did him, which is why he's going so cheap on this. I doubt it'll be anything too strenuous." "Heh. I like ya, Torald. Well said." "Heh. Sakurai's a character, that's for sure. We can talk a little more about him as we head out." Mac leads the Heroes into the lush, overgrown forest, talking along the way. "Sakurai Sato and I go way back, even before I started working for the Shadeaux. He's a bit of a nut--mages tend to get that way after a while, no offense to Mr. Terry or Mr. Yavarr here--but deep down, he's a decent enough fellow. Deep, deep down." Mac chuckles and shakes his head, likely in recollection of some distant memory. "He has a tendency to have an...interesting relationship with the rules, which has gotten him into trouble on more than one--" Just then, the bushes ahead rustle, and Mac gestures the party to come to a halt. Just then, a group of overgrown vermin emerge from the underbrush. "What in...? Miirym attacks Civilian Mob C from the Back Row, while U'Voros uses his Grand Potion on Purpearl from the Back Row.
