Heroica RPG - Quest #99: Six Thousand Feet Under
Flipz replied to Endgame's topic in The Heroica Archive
Arthur feels a shooting pain followed by relief as Erdathcath's roots pierce the inky plasm of his leg in the process of healing. Hopefully she was too focused on Bouldlord to notice that... He carefully skirts the edge of the pool as he retrieves his thrown polearms, attempting to avoid letting the Oculoids' ink touch him. "Indeed. Though we ought to stay vigilant nonetheless--if the Oculoids have Minoid's blueprints, they may be able to analyze him (and us) just as easily as he is capable of scanning them." Arthur paused, wondering how much more he should tell his companions, if the Oculoids would use his secrets against him--or if it was better just to let things be and focus on shutting the inky creatures up as quickly as possible. Regardless, he inserts the key into the elevator and motions the party onward. -
Particularly the Marketplace. We actually have been getting some interesting and useful bombs dropped in Quests (particularly from Kinto's Quests), now it's time to see a few in the open market.

OOC: Um...by the way, Bouldlord ought to be Jinxed...you know...since Erdy threw my Unlucky Horseshoe back in Round 3 and hit... -
Not AFAIK, but they should be.

"To make a long story short--" Arthur grunts in pain as he takes a heavier-than-usual blow. "I just know what they've done--Hexed and possessed people, sucked out their souls, stole memories--they even stole memories from Masson, meaning they probably have your specs, now I think of it. If you're looking for somebody who's actually fought them, I'm afraid I'm of little help." Same Battle Order and actions. "Master Grimwald, drink a Tonic and keep trying to make that thing Fragile--the fight will be over a lot sooner if you do." -

OOC: All right, then. Current actions still stand. -
The only problem I can foresee (and this is me playing devil's advocate) is that it makes multi-elemental weapons completely not worth it. Under the new meta, multiple gems is a liability more than an asset, and people will either stop using more than one elemental weapon with exactly one element imbued (likely Light because undead) carried as a backup or else maintain a number of independent weapons each with their own element (in which case it's better to go Mage anyway). I'm only seeing positives, the problem is wording it clearly enough that everyone can understand it.

OOC: Is there a particular reason Minoid is disregarding my orders? I specifically asked him to attack Scafflord from the Back with the Quick Bow this Round, since I was at the top of the Order to tank the Free Hit (and speaking of which, that'll need a roll for Cloak of Deception as well as a roll for Zap-Tap if that fails ). Arthur finds himself at a loss for words, and so decides to let his attack speak for him. This sounds like a good idea. ;)

Or consumables. Consumables would be even better.

Just to clarify, that sceptic face is because I'd like to see Artifacts that essentially turned the Hero wearing them into a different type. We sort-of saw that in one obscure Artifact from 48 (that was immediately overshadowed by the awesome hoods and the nutso Overkill Gloves ), but nothing since then.

Heroes are effectively ancient-type, though, so they don't have any weaknesses to counter their immunities.

OOC: ...aaand just noticed, you forgot the poison, which definitely stacks when coming from Heroes (see Jess in Quest 88 ). -

OOC: Erdy's hits are Fire-elemental, so she gets another x2 multiplier on Scafflord. Also, I should be Level 31.25, not 31.33. "Ah! Minoid, stand back and use the Quick Bow on Scafflord. Everyone else, same target." Arthur grunts in concern as a few drops of ink fall on bare skin, and are absorbed. Hoping none of the others had noticed, he throws his Spider Leg at Scafflord from the Back Row. Battle Order: Arthur Grimwald Minoid Minoid Erdathcath Erdathcath -

OOC: Meant the Cloak of Deception. My equipped artifacts should be Duke's Coat-of-Arms, Unicorn Helmet, Zap-Tap Badge, Cloak of Deception. The others' are correct. Also, Erdy drank a Smelling Salts before the battle, and I'm not sure if you accounted for the one I handed her after the last battle. I also lent the Minoid my Hollow Blade Dagger, and I think Erdy lent him her Quick Bow. "Burn the witch scaffold! Though you should throw my Horseshoe at it first, Lady Erdathcath. Master Grimwald, we'll need you solely on Scroll and healing duty--use my Healing Staff, since it won't cost you any Ether." Arthur throws his Gladiator Trident at Scafflord from the Back Row. Arthur listens as the last piece of the puzzle clicks into place. "Oh believe me, it's not a guess now. You've caused a lot of pain for some good friends of mine...so I owe you repayment in kind. With interest." Arthur unsheaths his sword, holding it in one hand while pointing his spear at the devilish duo. "Bring it, Oculoids." -

A look of growing concern passes over Arthur's face. He feels his muscles rippling--literally--and has to make an effort to keep himself under control. "I really hope you're not who--or rather, what--I think you are. For your sake." Arthur looks to the others. "If I'm right, this situation just got a whole lot worse." -
The last time Arthur met these guys' boss, he desecrated a grave held almost universally sacred to a large number of Heroes, and through sheer presence and malice left Arthur convinced it would be a good idea to transform himself into an eldritch abomination in order to become strong enough to fight him.

"Somehow, I doubt we'll like the 'errand' they have in mind..." Nonetheless, Arthur's brow furrows as he considers their words. "Come to think of it, however...they do seem familiar somehow, but I can't quite place it. Can either of you?" -
