  1. If Heroes immune to instant kill can still die from Doomed (Docken), then enemies can as well. Fair enough, it just seems REALLY easy to inadvertently completely stonewall an Assassin with Immune to Instant Kill and zero Gold drops, as we've already seen several times. The problem comes when those positive effect'd enemies are essentially "Immune to Neutralizers" because of the way their positive effects are applied (and in this case, the sheer number of them and the removal of the Back Row).
  2. Assassins don't need a nerf, they're quite frail and get stonewalled pretty much instantly (see Quest 93). QMs aren't going to stop throwing "Immune to Instant Kill" on everything, Doomed on those enemies makes sense--not to mention it still adds that layer of strategy you mentioned, you'd just keep Immune to Instant Kill on everything you already do, and then have the number of enemies you'd let not be immune to Doomed not be immune to Doomed.
  3. OOC: Free Hits should have gone to Minoid and to me. "Great work, Master Grimwald. Minoid, please take one of the Charcoal Rats this time, and Lady Erdathcath, I'd like you to take the same one once you've healed yourself." Arthur retrieves his thrown weapons and then throws his Spider Leg at Gold Rat B. Battle Order: Grimwald Arthur Arthur Minoid Erdathcath Erdathcath Grimwald OOC: Free hits should be: Gold Rat A vs. Grimwald--no damage (recovers from Stun) Charcoal Rat A + Dirt Rat A = 60/4= 15 - SP:20 = 0 damage
  4. What if the 1/6 chance for Doomed comes into play only on targets immune to instant kill? If you really wanted an un-assasinatable enemy, you'd still be able to slap Immune to Doomed on it (and since so much stuff is "Immune to Negative Effects" anyway ), and it would help Grim Reaper be less useless in certain situations.
  5. "A Quest I went on a while back taught me the importance of showing respect to one's colleagues. I've also found that treating people who are not initially my allies with respect and compassion often convinces them to become my allies, and quite often comrades-in-arms as well. The habit has also proven quite helpful in boosting the morale of those Heroes who are new to the organization--although once or twice that's turned out to be a mistake."
  6. I like Hastened=unstoppable Free Hit in theory (at least as a temporary buff), but I absolutely despise it as a permanent buff on enemies, and I also despise it on things in groups. In terms of difficulty, each additional Hastened enemy is an exponential increase rather than an additive (enemy Level) or multiplicative (number of enemies) one, since for each Hastened enemy you have to be able to survive both Damage AND a Free Hit (not to mention any AoE specials). Regarding the low-level peeps using things like effects: that would be absolutely great if the enemies these days (in general, not just Baltarok) weren't immune to most of it. It's what I did starting out, after all. (I blame myself for that a little--with the exception of WBD, all the QMs there have QM'd me back when I was a Status of Doom Sorcerer, and it shows in their respective QMing styles--compare Pie and Zepher before and after they had to deal with my Scroll shenanigans. Sandy, too, now I look at it. )
  7. Concern? Compassion? A thought even? When you go back and read through everything, you'll see how much they've produced, and what a travesty it is that everyone seems to be ignoring them.
  8. I'll give you that the enemies are stupidly strong. But so what, that means low-level players exist for us higher-level people to walk all over and use as meatshields so we gain experience while they don't? Good to know, good to know, I'll have to pencil in some time to do that before my daily appointment to kick puppies and strangle homeless kittens. :sarcasm What has Hoke done for the newbies, hmm? It's nothing specific, for you or anyone else, but neither time the low-levelers have interacted with the other Quests have anyone paid any real attention to them--it's always "hey new people, just go exist over there while Mom and Dad (i.e. Cinna+Dreyrugr and either Hoke+Nerwen or Guts+Haldor) talk." These are some of the most promising new players I've seen in a LONG time, and many of the Heroes act as if they don't even exist! I can't speak for out-of-character, maybe it's a roleplaying choice, but in-character it makes the high-level Heroes seem incredibly arrogant, and even off-model for some (read: Dyric).
  9. No, that's not what I'm saying at all, and given what Pupearl has seen of you and Guts (keeping in mind she's probably respecting the QMs' request not to read the other Quests), I don't blame her in-character or out-of-character for looking out for herself and her best interests--because Guts and Hoke and the other high-level Heroes sure aren't.
  10. Me, too. The worst part of big battles is how a.) there's always The Plan (yes, I'm aware I'm usually the one making them, I still despise its existence despite the hypocracy ), and b.) in truly big battles with lots of party members there's always somebody who fails to follow The Plan, thus rendering The Plan useless. Actually, no, the WORST part of big battles is that they take so bloody long. That's the worst bit.
  11. OOC: I'm not encouraged by Assistance, only the others are, so Gold Rats A and B should be up some health. Also, Grimwald should have Poison 8 now that poison stacks. (unless I've missed something?) "Lady Erdathcath, care to heal Master Grimwald and our automaton friend? Good work, Master Grimwald, keep it up. If you manage to Frail the Dirt Rats, you could probably take them out in just two hits--but take a moment to clear up that poison first, unless Lady Erdathcath manages to heal you. Master Minoid, I'd appreciate your assistance with Gold Rat B, from the Back Row as usual." Arthur drinks a Mead and then throws his Duplovian Swift Halberd at Gold Rat A from the Back Row. Battle Order: >Minoid >Arthur >Arthur >Erdathcath >Erdathcath >Grimwald >Grimwald
  12. OOC: The Frailty is a free action since you're wearing my Lens; you can cast any Scroll in addition to attacking or healing.
  13. "Oh, Master Grimwald, since you're wearing my Lens, cast Frailty on the Gold Rats--I'll still be immune to the effect if they damage me, and it'll make them go down much quicker. You'll still be able to attack, or to heal yourself if somehow Lady Erdathcath fails in her healing."
  14. It was sometime during the duration of 77, I think. Or was it 53?
  15. If a Hero has a Smoke Bomb and uses it, the whole party flees; it's been ruled in the past that individual Heroes can't refuse to flee when one is thrown. To clarify: I'm not saying Smoke Bombs don't have legitimate uses (they really do), I'm saying they're easily abused, so we should raise the price point so a new Hero can't come in, buy a Smoke Bomb with their 10 Gold (or just start as a Ranger), and then troll the part of the Quest they get in on.
  16. I love my class. It has what has to be one of the most satisfying SHIELD rolls ever. Oh, by the way, this thought came to me a few days back but I forgot to voice it: Should we replace Smoke Bombs in the Marketplace with Feathers of Flight? Not only does it make less sense to me that a powerful consumable item that can allow the whole party to flee is available quite cheaply while a weaker single-person version is virtually unheard of, but Feathers of Flight are also less inherently usable for griefing purposes (losing one character from a fight due to Feather of Flight is bad, but that same character can force the whole party to flee with a Smoke Bomb--even when they're just a Round or two from victory--which is much worse). At the very least, I'd like to see Smoke Bombs raised in price a little, so that they're outside the price range of first timers.
  17. OOC: Hate to say it, but Grimwald has no SP, so he's down to 3 HP. Also, shouldn't Erdy have Poison 4 now since she took the Dirt Rat's Free Hit? "Ahh, that's not good. Lady Erdathcath, could you Hasten me and then heal Master Grimwald? He's going to go down if we don't. I'll take care of the Gold Rats, I'm Lucky. Let me be at the top of the Battle Order to soak up both Charcoal Rats' Free Hits, it's precisely what a shield like mine is for." Arthur winks reassuringly, before Throwing his Gladiator Trident at Gold Rat B from the Back Row. If he's Hastened, he'd throw his highest WP spear at Gold Rat A, still from the Back Row. Battle Order: >Arthur >Erdathcath >Erdathcath >Arthur (if Hastened) >Grimwald >Grimwald >Minoid "Minoid, you should take whichever Dirt Rat that Master Grimwald does not attack."
  18. OOC: They're Vermin, so only weak to Ice and Wind. "All right, but be careful--the poison and damage will add up quick since you have no armor. Minoid, be sure to attack from the Back Row so you, Master Grimwald, and Lady Erdathcath receive the benefit of my training." Arthur changes his target to Charcoal Rat A, still from the back.
  19. OOC: Party Leader? Also, I drank a Nostrum before we entered the mine, it looks like you took one out of my inventory but didn't make me Lucky. Speaking of Luckiness, Erdy should be permanently Lucky. "Stick to the Back Row, everyone, we'll make shorter work of them. Lady Erdathcath, I recommend using that horseshoe I lent you--it'll deal a little less damage than your handcannon, but then on your next attack you will have maximal odds to heal us of any ailments. Master Minoid, I recommend you target Charcoal Rat A from the Back Row." Suggested Battle Order: >Arthur throws Gladiator Trident at Gold Rat A (back Row) >Minoid vs Charcoal Rat A (Back Row) >Grimwald >Erdathcath
  20. Suggestion: Different breeds of horse offer different buffs. For example, a horse equipped with armor might be too heavy to be Hastened, but the extra armor might absorb extra blows, making the hero Reinforced.
  21. Benji. Though I thought they weren't "3 HP" so much as "3 hits", the way the vines in 93 were? And ninja'd.
  22. Exactly. That's the key point there, I think, and why it makes me so upset.
  23. Because we've seen the issues consistently across several Quests recently, yes.
  24. More in-depth discussion on the topic to come once the trilogy is over, but: this is why I find the level of inactivity I've seen in recent Heroica history unforgiveable. The mindset of pure self-focus it engenders is just as damaging, if not more so, than the actual inactivity. To be clear, I'm not saying nstickney was being malevolent nor inactive, I'm saying that the level of inactivity we've tolerated in this game has taught him and a lot of other players that not contributing and not playing as a team is OK, when it's really, really not.
  25. "I see." Arthur examines the dust atop the pestles with his Magnifying Glass. "We should probably press forward after that rat, then."
