  1. I think we have a certain amount of influence. While it is never confirmed directly, there is plenty of indirect evidence that some of the new parts and sets introduced over the last five years were in response to wishes discussed here. For instance, I think this is true of the 8070 supercar, the V2 longer pneumatics, and the new "UCS" size Porsche.
  2. Because if I have to suffer through this addiction then you do to.
  3. Very nice. This has many similarities to Lucio Switch's Tractor Truck. Did you start with that as a baseline?
  4. Moving to general forum.
  5. I am still thinking about that. Since the version Akiyuki actually presented in his video is the single height version, I think the instructions will be that version. The taller version can always be made by extension if someone wants to. We did the same thing with the bucket wheel tower in which a taller version was later built. I reserve final judgment until I have built the first version and tried it out.
  6. Did LOTS of work on the spiral lift today. I couldn't accept the variable pitch of the ribbed hoses so I moved all the supports so there would be a uniform spacing of 40 LDU vertically between them. I also removed two stud lengths from the input hopper to be consistent with Akiyuki and to put the 8x16 tile partially under the belt so the balls won't fall out. Many other minor mods were made to make it all fit together right. I have some draft instructions ready and will post them once they are tested.
  7. You must send it assembled of course! Make sure to pack it carefully. As an alternative, you may send me a plane ticket to St. Petersburg and I will come to you.
  8. It should not be difficult to move in reverse. Reverse is a low gear so it will result in fast motor movement which comes with some extra friction, but it should be similar to 1st gear. Sounds like something is not right in your build.
  9. That is one of the drawbacks of making free instructions available for everyone! It is amazing how similar it looks to the whimsical Friends themed render I did a while ago: That would be incredible! I'd love to meet him. I was in Yokohama last week but I have never made it as far as Kobe.
  10. Yes, that's the way they look on the single height version but then he changed them to black for the double height. I like the look of the black a bit better which is why I rendered it that way.
  11. Akiyuki does this trick fairly regularly, having 2 axles on the same axis turning at different speeds. Cup-to-Cup and Step-to-Step both do it as well. It causes me problems almost every time until I start running the numbers to figure out rotation rates and then it becomes obvious that they are not connected. I think this is something that would not be done in an official set simply because it is so easy to build it wrong and if you do the machine will jam.
  12. I don't think there are way more engineers than artists, I just think there are more people making a living at engineering than art. You don't hear about the unsuccessful artists! Unsuccessful engineers make national news...
  13. The 5L axles do NOT connect to the 2x2 thin liftarms. In fact the whole machine won't work if you connect it that way. The 2x2 liftams are part of the skotch yoke mechanism and they are already fully supported by axles (in this case 3L) in Step 9 on Page 29. The 5L axle in Step 17 on Page 34 butts up against the 3L but does not connect to it. They rotate at vastly different rates. If that still doesn't make sense I can make a clarifying image from the LDraw file. Thanks! I am anxious to hear your experience building the double height and how well it works. I have finished a preliminary LDraw file of the single height version: One thing that bothers me somewhat is that the pitch of the hose portions is very uneven. Some are much steeper than others due to the spacing between the supports. I can't really tell if Akiyuki used the same pitches based on his video. In any case, it is not really noticeable in the image except by very odd people like myself.
  14. Not sure what you mean. Those axles are sticking right out the front in plain view in Step 17.
  15. Just checked my build. 2x 5L is correct.
  16. I think desert752's John Deere Feller Buncher is just about the biggest model you can build from instructions.
  17. I suppose if he wants to mail me the whole model then I will do instructions.
  18. Looks like we have a 3rd topic for this machine. I guess everyone likes it! Let's stick to one topic though. Edit: Sorry for this. Looks like I was using some circular reasoning.
  19. It's funny because that is exactly the same thing I have heard as the difference between Japanese and Italian engineering!
  20. LDU is LDraw Unit. It the standard unit for any LEGO CAD software using LDraw. One stud brick width is 20 LDU, so 2 LDU is only 1/10th of a stud mismatch. A brick height is 24 LDU and a plate height is 8 LDU. You can see that this system was chosen to give a lowest common multiple so that most parts will only ever need an integral dimension and not a fractional one.
  21. The rotation is limited by the stroke of the pneumatic actuators. How far it goes in each direction depends on which tooth of the rack gears you used when you built it. The overall travel can be a little more than 180 degrees.
