  1. Wow, I really hope that set list is true!! Dream "Darkseid Invasion" Set Minifigs: Superman (New 52), Wonder Woman (New 52), Cyborg, Darkseid (big fig for New 52 design?), Brainiac (LB3 design), and x2 robot Brainiacs from the 80s! They could use the Alien Conquest head and brain, but make them in pearl silver and trans yellow, respectively. In the set, they could act as Brainiac's robot henchmen. That would be out of this world! ... pun intended :) Set Design: I would really like to see three ships in the one set. They are: Ship 1. Brainiac's ride from LB3 (because it's awesome!) Ship 2. mini invisible jet for Wonder Woman (should be about the size of the jet from Lego Agents set 8970; see top right) Ship 3. Apocalypse War Machine for Darkseid (can look like anything; would love some Kirby-esque decals!; play functions should be like Garmatron set, with computer controls, a jail somewhere, and at least one giant cannon)
  2. Is the Lake Town Attack really only $30? Then they really could have skipped The Lonely Mountain, and put Smaug in Lake Town Attack. That would have made the Lake Town Attack price about $60, right? That would make it much easier for kids and everyone else to get Smaug than the $130 set he's in now. Plus that would have made for more of a complete Lake Town Attack scene. Then you would have Bard, the Windlance, and Smaug in one set. Then they'd have a fourth slot free, and they could have made an army builder set, as many have suggested. I still don't understand why they made a $130 set for a dying line. They're ending the line because of poor sales, right? So why make such an expensive set? Better to make something cheaper, and something that people will buy multiples of (army builder!). I do understand that often sets are made to meet certain price points. But is a $130 set really a good idea for a line that's ending because of poor sales?
  3. Thanks, Darth Punk, that's good to hear!
  4. I have a question regarding the 2014 Advent Calendar. Does anyone have a picture what Santa Vader looks like without the helmet? I'm curious if Lego is using the same angry face as in the 2014 Star Destroyer, or if it's a new print. I've looked around (even through FBTB's great collection of Toy Fair images), but couldn't find a picture of Santa Vader without the helmet.
  5. That crown Thorin is wearing is identical to the crown that Thror wears in the first Hobbit movie, right? Based on that, I would have changed the minifigure line up for the Smaug set. Right now we get five minifigures: Bilbo and four members of Thorin's Company in colorful garb. I would have made the line up: 1. Bilbo (the one we're getting) 2. Thror (use the new Thorin headgear with the crown, but change hair color; instead of new orc headgear, make Thror's beard) 3 and 4. x2 Dwarf Soldiers (just recolor Gimli's helmet in pearl gray, or another color) 5. ? (maybe flashback Balin, with a recolored beard?) That would have made the playset much more fun. Then you could use the mine section with Bilbo and Smaug to recreate the scenes from the second Hobbit movie, and the throne room section could be used for Thror, the Dwarf Soldiers, and Smaug to recreate the scenes from the first Hobbit movie.
  6. Wow, thanks for the pictures! The builds will be fun, but some of the minifigures bother me: * Why make a new Orc hair piece? Instead, they could have spent the mold money on Bolg's hair piece. Combine that with recolored Gundabad Orc shoulder armor, and we could have had all the parts needed for a decent Bolg. * Why does the Twilight Witchking have gloves? The hands should match the face color. I would have liked glow in the dark hands. Swapping in white hands is close enough, I guess.
  7. It seems like different stores are missing different lines. My B&N doesn't regularly stock Super Heroes, but another B&N not too far away has them. Both of those stores do have Lego Star Wars, though. Even so, you can still get the sets through your local store. As long as B&N has the Star Wars sets that you'd like on their website, you can still pay for them in the store (and then use any coupons, etc.). Just ask to do a "pre-pay-ship-to-home order" for the sets. In the past, I've gone in with print outs of the B&N product pages to make it easy on everyone. Orders that total $25 or more get free shipping.
  8. You'll probably see the Summer Star Wars sets at B&N around late August, or maybe early Septmeber. They're already starting to get a few of the new sets from other themes (Ninjago City, Ninjago X-1 Charger, some new Duplo, one of the Friends jungle sets, etc.). http://www.barnesand...ze=30&startat=1 I found that the best way to search for the new sets on B&N.com is to do a search on "Lego Systems." Then click the author/publisher link to bring up all products by "Lego Systems, Inc." Finally, sort them "Newest to Oldest."
  9. Thanks for the great review, Joker1. The other thread is a lot to wade through at this point to get a concise review and detailed pictures (front and back printing, etc.) For SDCC figures like Phoenix, I can see why people are turning to the bootleggers. Some of the unique designs like Odin are interesting too. It's tempting for me to buy Phoenix, which probably has no chance of being reproduced for the general public (with that design, anyway). Still, for myself, I think I have to agree with Dharkan that it wouldn't feel right to have these in my collection. I really do want those characters. And I would love to see all of Lego's SDCC exclusive minifigures offered this way, since Lego doesn't seem willing to offer them to the general public themselves (even with different prints). Even so, I don't think I want to support a bootleg product.
  10. Thanks to everyone for the great news and pictures! Looks like a fun game! I was just catching up on some SDCC news, and came across an interview with Troy Baker and Dee Bradley Baker on their "Lego Batman 3" voice work. Interestingly, DBB is shown next to a brick-built Brainiac minifigure. Might be both how Brianiac looks in the game and in the winter wave of sets because... #1. In the past, the only time I've seen Lego make brick-built "minifigures" like this is when it's an actual minifigure. Maybe this is a cross-promotional piece for "Lego Batman 3" and when the winter wave is put on exhibition somewhere (like Toy Fair 2015). #2. The statue has no detailing on the legs. If it was just made for the video game and based on a Traveler's Tales design, I'm 100% sure the Traveler's Tales team would have thrown some leg printing in there. Remember, they did that for Brainiac in "Lego Batman 2." Then the leg printing would have been reproduced in the statue. And we know that Lego is fairly stingy with Super Hero leg printing. 11. That looks like a really fun set! I'm glad to see that they fixed Kanan Jarrus' hair color. In the Ghost set he has black hair, while in the Wookiee Gunship the hair looks brown.
  12. Before this purple Batman headgear, have we ever seen a SDCC exlusive minifigure that utilized an element (like headgear) in a new color? If not, maybe we will see a Zur-En-Arrh Batman minifigure available outside of SDCC, one that utilizes a purple Batman cape. (Like Lego showed on their Facebook in the Bat-suit group shot.) Maybe the only things exclusive to this minifigure are the baseball bat (which we can get outside the Super Heroes theme already) and the Batman head with the stubble (which could still come with a future minifigure anyway).
  13. Minifigures aren't always included to literally adapt a scene. Look at the Mirkwood Elf Army set from The Hobbit. Was Thranduil ever fighting orcs on the front lines in "Desolation of Smaug?" No, but they pictured him doing that in the set anyway. Also, just because GOTG is in theatres now doesn't mean the Collector couldn't be put in an upcoming GOTG set. Look at how Lego handled "The Dark Knight Rises" set with Batman, Bane, and Gordon. The film was released (in the United States) in July 2012. The Lego set based on the film wasn't released until December 2012/January 2013. So, even though GOTG is going to be in theaters August 1 (in the US) it's entirely possible that the Collector could pop up in another $20-$30 GOTG set for December 2014/January 2015. Based on everything I wrote above, the Collector minifigure and the new Rocket minifigure could be preview minifigures for an upcoming set. We really don't know yet.
  14. Exactly. We haven't seen Lego's hand yet for 2015. Based on the past experiences it's extremely unlikely, but I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt (for now).
  15. I really, really hope that Collector minifigure is a preview giveaway at SDCC, and not an exclusive. Lego knows that a lot of kids and adults love the minifigures (hence the CMF line!). DK publishing knows it too, and they advertise the SDCC minifigures in their books all the time. Do I really have to explain again to my younger cousins why they won't be able to get the SDCC minifigures? Do they know how hard that is for a kid to see SDCC minifigures like Bizzaro in the DK books, and then someone has to tell them they were given away for free someplace. And when they ask how much more money they have to spend on Lego Shop at Home to get the SDCC figures, like Martian Manhunter, I don't know what to say. The good customers aren't being rewarded here. Didn't the CEO say that they're partnering with Shell to get more toys into kids hands? How are SDCC exclusives getting more toys into kids hands? Please, Lego, release the Collector outside of SDCC.
  16. If this is the one and only Super Heroes exclusive, then it's a step in the right direction. However, I still think Lego could do more to help themselves and the fans by doing this: * Sell the set at the SDCC with some nifty packaging. That's fine. Then outside of the Con: * For the Build (Warbird) The instructions should go up on Lego's website as a PDF, and use the tagline "build this with parts from your Lego collection!" They do it all the time with instructions for the Club section of the website (See this page: http://club.lego.com.../building-steps). The build itself should use parts available in other sets from that year (no exclusive parts or decals). There are great sites out there, like Bricklink and Brickset, that can tell you where to get the parts. * For the Minifigure (Rocket in GOTG Team Outfit) Lego can make one special minifigure to tie into SDCC, but that figure should be available as a promotional item for the month of July. Like Martian Manhunter, Darth Revan, Flashback Shredder, etc., if you buy $75 worth of product you should get the minifigure. Also, isn't it cheaper to produce things in larger quantities? By making that Rocket for both SDCC and the free-with-$75-purchase, they'd be producing more and it would be cheaper for them. Other Con "Exclusives" Plus, Lego can still give away or sell other "preview minifigures" that will be coming out down the road, but just make it clear that those are preview minifigures (in exclusive packaging). Most people will be fine with that. All of that creates a really simple fix, one that would make everyone happy.
  17. I've stayed away from this topic for a while to avoid the movie spoilers, so I don't know if this has already been posted. It looks like there's a chance we might see the Batman villains Scarface and the Ventriloquist in an upcoming set. The talented Lego comic illustrator "Polywen" has featured the characters in an upcoming Lego Club comic. You can see them next to Scarecrow in the bottom left panel of the image below (link to full size: https://www.flickr.c...ly/13888550427/). Let the speculation begin!
  18. That looks fantastic! I love how the arch meets on an angle. Do you have the Lego Digital Designer file available online?
  19. As much as I wanted the classic costume, I love the translucent arms and head on Electro! Now, why couldn't Lego have done that for the Necromancer of Dol Guldur in 79014? I'll be picking up the Hulk Lab Smash and Electro sets. The former has a great assortment of new characters (Taskmaster, with a white hood for Galadriel or Princess Leia!), and the latter is a good low-cost way to get a ton of lightning elements and translucent minifigure arms (Ringwraith ghosts, here I come!). I wonder why the Hulk Lab set uses that giant, plain 1x6 blue wall element. Not even a sticker to make it more interesting? I think I'll swap that out for a bunch of Erling bricks, and put some printed computers, dials, and levers there instead to jazz up the wall.
  20. Was Bolg an additional 7th minifigure in the set, or did another minifigure take his spot? Also, do you have a link to the preliminary image? I'd love to see Hans Henrik Sidenius's sketch model for Dol Guldur Battle. Thanks in advance!
  21. After building the set for myself, I changed my vote from "average" to "above average" for a few reasons. Largely, it's due to the modular sections. They add a lot of play value. I found that the tower can easily fit on top of the Necromancer's hovel, making the structure taller and more fortress-like. Another thing I liked was that the designer filled every room with decorations, a play feature, or both. You don't always see that in sets. On the minifigures, Azog has grown on me. As for the Necromancer, I found he looks more interesting if you put him in front of a black wall. Then his parts blend into the background, the prints pop, and he appears more ghostly. Also, I know a lot of people aren't sticker fans, but for those that are this set offers some very nice graphics. It's especially effective around the Necromancer's hovel. The graphics department did a good job. Overall, I still don't think the set captures the claustrophobic and labyrinth-like feel of Dol Guldur from the movies, but I do think it's a fantastic playset for any Lego fan. Sets you can use to expand this Dol Guldur courtyard into a fortress: * Troll's Mountain Fortress * Vampyre Castle * Riddles for the Ring - parts from this set can be used to make the modular sections taller, and more fortress-like I'm looking forward to seeing your MOC.
  22. That's true. Well, my Photoshop is terrible, I know, but I thought they could have done it like the Gundabad orc armor, but without so much empty space on the sides. Or, just close the gap a bit more between the upper arm and head covering. Just something to make the neck to arm transition more smooth. In any case, now that I have Azog in my hands I actually like the figure a lot more. Nice idea! Looks great!
  23. Right, thanks. I was hoping someone knew which Lego staff member designed Azog. Also, if that designer had a Flickr account where they might have some concept art for the Azog minifigure (sort of like what Mark Stafford does with some sketch models). Another board member in the Dol Guldur Battle review suggested Azog should have had bulkier shoulders (like the Gundabad orc shoulder armor). That, and shortening the claw arm and curving the claw so Azog could hold things, would have been very cool.
  24. Excellent review, Captain Nemo! Wonderful pictures, with a detailed and humorous writing. I can both see why some people aren't happy with Beorn, but I have to give Lego a lot of credit for trying a new minifigure design strategy. Making the hair and head one piece to increase height is very clever, and the idea has grown on me. Also, I think Beorn was translated much better than Azog. Beorn retains all the curves and shapes of a normal minifigure very well. Azog looks way too realistic, and looks out of place among his Gundabad orcs. Speaking of Gundabad orcs, I have to echo what everyone has already said: they're amazing. The shoulder armor and prints are fantastic.
  25. Does anyone have concept art of the Azog minifigure? I'm not sold on the design, and was very curious as to the designer's thought process and other ideas. Thanks in advance for any help!
