  1. I think it's just a matter of preference. You are interested in suspension, that's why you say so. Most supercars (be it a MOC or official set) has suspension at least, even if it's not fully realistic. A very few car model has breaks, friction clutch or power steering for example. There is a not fullly realistic but existing suspension while some of the most basic and characteristic functions are totally missing from most of the models... I think the best supercars are made by Crowkillers and Tyler Reid (in alphabetical order). Yet, they are just like any other supercars or just cars in terms of functionality.
  2. There are categories of realism, and Lego is not suitable to be realistic in every one of them. For example realistic mechanism/principle vs realistic behaviour (Pneumatic Cylinders vs Linear Actuators). Realistic shape vs realistic surfaces. You can't make them all at the same time. I think the problem is that most people look at Lego as a modelling tool instead of as a form of art. And as a modelling tool, it's not very effective (for example the plastic is weak). Everyone says Sheepo's models are realistic. Well, the real Land Rover doesn't have sequential gearbox but has a centre differential and some difflocks. It's an awesome legendary Lego model anyway.
  3. Your Lego rooms are bigger than the whole flat we are living in with my girfriend. I have cupboard-top with 4 big boxes filled with the unsorted mixture of all the Lego pieces I have (boxes of Lego sets). I have two bookshelfes for some empty Lego set boxes and for my half-disassembled red coupé; and I have the ground. And a keyboard-sized free space on the desk. That's pretty much it.
  4. To the neylon idea: can it be painted just like ABS? I would vomit of pale-white, or just slighty off color gears all around inside a Technic model. Maybe that's the main reason for ABS
  5. Yes, you can. Use CV joints on both sides on the half-axles and a 2L axle between them. EDIT: PWNED! Hmm, nope, those won't fit inside. Sorry
  6. Well, in princible (as the name also suggests: "Toroidal or roller-based CVT") the disks have to have toroidal grooves in order to work. Simple flat disks won't work as "variable". Read Wiki
  7. That will be it I think, the checkbox is checked, but the "pli.mpd".file where it's pointing doesn't exist. Thank you very much, that was it!
  8. Hi all! I have the following problem: Image Axles and beams are oriented differently (in MLCad too) and this results in crap PLI and BOM, because of the lenght indicator number. The length-number of the axle is just floating in the nihility, and it is very annoying, especially in the BOM (it's hard to tell which number corresponds to which part). Is there a way to overcome this, I don't know, a global setting in MLCAD or a different part database with the proper orientations (axles and beams oriented the same way in official Lego instructions). Thanks for any hints in advance!
  9. There is one very important trick when using that tool: always make a separate, simple model with appropriate hinge points and use the tool on that, then move the neceswsary parts on the actual assembly. The biggest problem is that the tool can't handle complex assemblies, otherwise I found it to be a useful and simple tool with this trick.
  10. To be honest, I still haven't took the model apart frully, so I didn't build it up from zero. One little note on the build: there should be a 7L axle between the attaching points on the front shock abrorvers acting as strenghtener (I don't know the term for that). That was not included in the LDD file because it touches the engine block. EDIT: Thank you very much Blackbird for documenting the building experience, it is a very valuable insight about the quality of the model and what to improve in the future.
  11. That's why I think this is NOT a well designed car, except for the body. I overcomplicated the chassis because I wanted it to be stiff and I didn't know how stiff other supercars are in comparison (that's a reason among others to build other's MOCs too), Kronos was very helpful with this. If he didn't tell his experiences about other supercars, now the chassis would be a piece of black brick or a neautron star... It's strange that there was no space for the gears, I didn't have that problem.
  12. Did you insert the 2L axle in the opposite side of the engine shaft? I almost missed that.
  13. Thanks for the interest and sorry for the late reply. You reconstructed the model well, there's only one little mistake in Blackbird's and Therion's build: There's a hair-thin overlap between part 32054 and the other parts of the car, so I couldn't include it in the LDD file. The overlap is so small that I didn't notice any tension in the real-life build. Everything else seems to be fine in the instructions provided by Therion. It's a good feeling if others build your model
  14. Thank you! If you are patient enough, you can build it from instructions too. It should take only a couple of months to finish But of course, you don't have to ask for permission.
  15. I found it to be a good placer in structures. You don't have to add an extra bush.
  16. Thanks for the comments and the support! On the underside picture you can see blue 3L pins sticking out from the beam-frame part. Pins are inserted from the other side too, but they aren't shown in the chassis pictures. Video comes some time next week.
  17. Nice instructions and I love the small helicopter. One technical question though, how did you manage to orientate the beams and the axles in the same direction in the parts lists?
  18. Thanks for the comments! Now, it's up on Cuusoo! I will update the project with different color versions.
  19. We could point out many models which are absolutely awesome and doesn't have tons of features. The biggest problem with realistic, advanced and/or never-seen-before features is that pretty much only you and some experts-in-the-field (if you point these features out...) will recognise them. My favourite among these advanced features are the suspension geometry features, all those angles. No-one will see them unless you point them out. They are even pointless with Lego that has more backlash than the tiny angles in the suspension. In my opinion a model is good feature-wise, if those features are clearly recognisable and add some playing value.
  20. You have to stop somewhere with realism. If you want true realism, build a real car.
  21. I also start immediately with building when I arrive home from the shop. The only two exception were 42011 and 42010 as I only bought them for the parts, I didn't even build them. But time is another issue. After a hard day at work I usually don't have the mood to sit on the floor for an hour or so and dig through boxes of Legos and MOCing.
  22. Are you sure you need 100 posts? 2 years ago you didn't need 100, because that's quite many.
