If there are possible idle positions, then maybe the reason is that the selector wheel is oriented in the wrong way. Is the axle of the selector restricted mechanically (hard stop)? Is cable holder there for that reason? These might be stupid questions, I don't have any experience with the new PU system and its self calibration methods and quirks related to it. I'd guess the self calibration needs a hard stop. So if the hard stop and selector wheel are not aligned properly, you have a problem that may result in various strange behaviors depending on how the parts are misaligned.

This color vomit thing is not so black and white (). For me, it is a huge help to quickly fing parts during rebuilding sets. Rebuild means breaking down the set to pieces, then build the same model again, and it's so much simpler (and thus entertaining) that I don't have to pre-sort parts because I can easily differentiate between al those tiny parts.

They could do better, and I don't really understand why they don't. They have a bunch of dedicated set designers, it's not some parts manufacturing company with the secretary assigned in his/her spare time to design some sets just to have some sets too. The Technic line will soon fail to the knockoffs if they continue the trend of getting more expensive but not getting better (or getting worse) in building quality. The prize of the new Ferrari is bloody outrageous.

latest lego quality standards
Lipko replied to Jurss's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
This. Also the old technic connectors, U-joints and half bushes or anything with those small teeth fractured all the time. One thing that bothers me most is that the friction of this part greatly increases in some cases. This causes hard or impossible to operate functions (mostly doors and hoods) in models that have been assembled for a long time. In one case this lead to part breaking on more occasions until I realized that the pin was the root cause of breaking. -
That's a nice start, but to be honest, I'm not a fan of the solution for the steering wheel rotation. At this scale I would try to have a more realistic solution (U-joints & crap)

I love the proportions and the shape as it is. With the tires and beefy fuel tank. I can picture Tom Cruise on it in a M:I movie.

Technic 2021 Set Discussion
Lipko replied to LvdH's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I said I haven't looked into it. IT was merely my general impression that Technic is shifting towards licenced good stuff category vs. the obligatory cheep just-get-over-the-design-phase category. I may be wrong, as I haven1t looked into it. -
Technic 2021 Set Discussion
Lipko replied to LvdH's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Sorry, I haven't looked into it in detail, but: All the unlicensed sets lay inside the small and lame Technic category? Or worse, only the smallest +pullback sets are unlicensed? -

Lipko replied to Erik Leppen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
For me it's very simple. My models should be buildable and easy to disassemble by anybody else (including kids) without craftmanship, without worrying that parts would be deformed and without the need for careful part selection - no reliance on loosened gears for example (I almost always offer some instructions or digital files for free). That's the best way to test a design. If my models are made of Lego parts, then obviously I play by their rules that can be learnt for their stock models. It also means I try hard to use only current parts, not very old parts. Sometimes I fail in that regard (I prefer 8070 car style hubs over the new ones because of the low profile).- 179 replies
