  1. I know next to nothing about wheel sizes, but this may help with the compatibility. It may also be possible to put larger tyres on smaller wheel hubs by padding them out with rubber bands.
  2. Happy Birthday! This is sooo annoying There's also a side-effect that all the threads the staff start at the moment will come up on the forum overview as started by CopMike derivitives for all eternity Edit: Forget that ^ It used to work, but seems to have changed.
  3. Alright people, that's it! Voting thread will go up shortly, and good luck all!
  4. 11:59 pm Eastern Standard Time. But the deadline isn't too tight, and it'll only get officially closed at some time tomorrow
  5. I actually like this in my trans-clear studs, as it gives them a frosty look, which is good for lanterns and bubbles, as well as adding some variety. Unless the side cracks off, as has happened to me. It seems to happen mostly in trans-green...
  6. For some reason it reminds me of the Offshore Krusty Burger in the Simpsons I like the tiki torches a lot - simple and effective - and they really contribute to the overall atmosphere. It's a great MOC that captures the Caribbean essence very nicely. I love how the guy in the crow's nest is looking at it through the telescope The island also looks like it retains some of the original Loot Island features (the jetty), so I wonder why Nelson didn't modify the raft a bit - that technic axle mast looks rather flimsy and weird, and could do with some beefing up... Yes, it's a nice thatch technique, although I wonder as to its realism - wouldn't it just rot or get blown away? (I know I'm a culprit of this too )
  7. Lookin' good! Is that first decal from the torso library? Me thinks I might want one I agree about the hair though - Captain Cavinano did a tutorial on how to get it under the hat here, and the finished product here
  8. Vig. 63d "Well, I'll tell ye. I waded out into the shallows, and waited there three days and three nights, till all manner of sea creatures came acclimatin' to me presence. Then on the fourth morning, I roped meself a sea turtle, lashed 'im up and made a raft!"

Thanks all! Sure thing! Nope, the frontpage exists for my MOCs J/K I needed a bit of variation, particularly as I don't have any other colour sharks/swordfish/rays/Agents sharks. I wanted to do a hammerhead shark, but dark grey is quite limiting, and I didn't want to put too much effort into it. Pirates are renowned for their mathematical prowess One flipper fits into each side of the torso, and the elastic band covers up the base the technic pins. The third flipper was an afterthought, as they looked a bit silly with just 2, but the trans supports also hold onto the top of the technic pin on it. It's just to get 2 MOCs in one contest! It's structurally quite challenging though, and I'd have preferred not to have used the trans clear windows up the side, and have the whole thing resting on the parthenon/temple thing, but it wasn't going to work easily. Yeah, it limited me to my most basic torsos I considered having their clothes torn in the second one (one yellow arm/leg e.t.c.), but for consistency's sake I chose not too. Lucky for me I have 2 Castle Advent Calenders. Thanks again, everyone!
  10. Beyond the standard movements of the minifig, there are 3 main ways to get additional poses - Pnuematic tubing for arms (example) Removing the legs from the hips, and positioning them another way (example) Removing the arms from the sockets (can be held in with an elastic band sometimes) (example) You could also try brick-built methods, like the ones shown here. Hope this helps
  11. Very nice entry! You've got a lot of good things going here. Regarding the globe, would it be possible to have remove the outer socket thing, and hold the two hemispheres together somehow (a tyre over the two sticky up things?), to make it a bit more globe-like? You could then use one hole to attach it to the table, and put a continent (Arctic) over the top one. Aw nuts, I missed the stupid rat too
  12. Like part of a minifig neck bracket, which fits like this? That'd be good, although it could limit its use as a stand-alone drum (does it have an inverse stud on the bottom?). An elastic band would solve the problem of a handle-less drum, whilst allowing for it to be used for Islanders e.t.c. What would be really cool would be if a 2x2 round zebra Islander tile could fit on the top.
  13. Yup, all decals allowed (within reason - making the whole thing out of stickers is pushing it rather ). I'm curious though, how would you put a sticker on a sphere (I'm assuming it is), without it going crinkly?
  14. I think it also depends on how you're going to station the crew: if they're going to just stand around on the deck, you may not need as many, but if they're to be positioned in the rigging/ratlines e.t.c, then you can fit a lot more on. Regarding quantities, 1 or 2 of the main dudes should suffice (captain, quartermasters, mate, bosun e.t.c.), but for the others (marines, sailors, gunners e.t.c.), the proportions should stay in about the same ratio as for the original ship, just scaled down. The blue on that torso looks like Dark Blue (ooh, these new-fangled colours ). As Blackmoor said, you can get nearly everything off Bricklink (be warned though, it's sometimes called Cracklink due to its addictive properties, and how you get lots of things which make you happy in plastic bags off the internet ) It takes a bit of getting used to, but it's well worth it
  15. Welcome! That animation is fantastic, blending old and new pirates and imperials (and Islanders) It was nice to see the Loot Island baseplate for Islander purposes Good use of the MMV too - it's easily adaptable. Bit of a grey area with the Pirate Forum, this. As there's a Brickfilm involved, I'll leave it here
  16. Gear sticks would work fine, but if you want them to stay in properly, screwdrivers do the trick (you could perhaps use the new flame/plume part, but it may look funny - I haven't got any, so can't tell )
  17. I meant in the candelabra, only I didn't mention it by name, as I'd forgotten how to spell it
  18. All very nice, as normal One of my favourites so far, although there's some real stiff competition. I can't help reading the title as Leer of the Bare-Chested Bandits! The openness (and height or each level) is good for the MOC as a whole, although unrealistic (no beams/posts to bang heads on). Now, that doesn't matter, even though the rest of the MOC is very realistic. Yes, all of it. Clothes-wearing pirates were just made up to scare little children, when we all know that they did everything starkers (Stark - anything I should know? )! The window arches are a nice touch I haven't seen before Anyway, onto the suggestions - The ladder seems a bit mis-placed. It could be on the right hand far corner, just outside the base, thus fitting the overlap rule. As for the trapdoor, it could become a physical thing (4 1x4 plates on the floor? A hole?) in that corner, with a bit of rearranging the furniture. As Guss said, the walls are very busy ^^ It works for the upper level, but the bottom one could do with a bit of a blander background, such as removing some of the horizontal stripes of black. To give it a more ship-like shape, you could build a platform halfway up the lower level, but only coming out 8 studs, or so (like this, a bit). This adds another dimension to the lower level and gives you the opportunity to use the vertical space more effectively (people falling off e.t.c.) The ladder/steps could then be threaded through the balcony. The wall above the balcony could be angled outwards slightly, to give the slope of the ship. Cannons and cannon ports duly follow. And I'm jealous of all your brown legs I can't say I'm big on the barrel made from the wheels - it looks a bit knobbly. Removing it would create a nice bit of space in the corner, for some nice action. Wrestling? A cage full of animals? A captive Islander? And the minor nit-picks that vary from builder to builder, but don't make too much difference - I'd prefer a minifig hand instead of that bar-with-clip on the mini ship, as it gives less of a bulk around the bows, but it isn't a big deal. It does hold (just about), but a little squeezing helps. Another hand in the rear sail wouldn't do amiss (like this) The dude on the ladder's neck seems to be rather cricked, as a result of the hairpiece. He could do better with one which allows full rotation, and have his head more perpendicular. Shouldn't there be some wicks in the candles in the captain's cabin? The tan brick behind the arches on the lower level looks rather funny to me. The IJ map + Adventurers 1x4 tile is bugging me a fair bit - 2 maps and no studs could solve this. And the captain seems a bit gormless - he could be drying/shrinking heads, examining them e.t.c. Fleshies would be good here. A scattering of coins on the lower level could add to the mayhem. No Spongebob on!
  19. ^ That beret came out wonderfully So they need 3 hands now! Those drumsticks are nice (similar dimensions to the gearsticks?), and the drum is cool too, although I wonder how the minifig holds it - with one hand, and one drumstick, or by a belt of some kind, with 2 drumsticks? Could be useful for Islanders, too
  20. From the first post - Just to keep it tidy And also because there was an identical discussion going on in this thread and the other one, so a merge seemed a good option. And if it's finding the new posts that's a problem, starting at the newest one, and then working backwards works...
  21. Vig. 63b "So thar we were, battlin' the mighty whirlpool for nigh on a full moon, when with a great plop we plunged twenty fathoms down into the depths. But nay, to our surprise we did not die (bar Cannonball Jack, who got etted by a shark), and found ourselves in a strange city full o' golden treasure. Took it all, we did, but pursued we were, by creatures, half men, half fish, half plant. But we fled away, to live and fight another day!" The name is derived from Charybdis, a whirlpool in Greek mythology, and Atlantis (obviously)
  22. It says there are and when I log in to my folder, there are no folders in there. There are also no new images at the top of the homepage. i.e. it's unusable... Oh, and Maj still seems to be working. Topics Merged
  23. 3 pages of comments without me bumping? Thanks all! Whilst it's based on the POTC ride, they're not looting, just having fun! There's a technic axle-pin in the bottom which goes into a 1x1 round brick which holds the head. The hand just slots in the gap. 1. a) I'm colour blind, and it looks fine to me b) I haven't got the right parts in tan/pink, although I'll get them sometime 2. It's supposed to be straw, but pigs are omnivorous, no? Sure is! I'd originally intended to have someone perched on a cannon, like below, but it didn't work out. And the head is attached to a body (behiund the barrels) - he's just drunk, not dead. I love these things Hehe *Hides* Eh, never played it, but it was designed from a sort of "make it cool" perspective... Just enjoying the rum! I'd have liked to use dark red (or a mixture with normal red) for the roof, but I don't have enough. Thanks Blackmoor! When watching it, I realised that I'd forgotton to fully edit that last main photo
  24. The minfigs can move around between photos, yes. However, if you're intending to do 2 seperate scenes, they need to still fit within the 24x24 base (stacked), like this. You can unstack them to photograph, but please provide a link proving that it fits
